UPDATE 6/26/05 (Five Month): Tracy flew home from Florida with us on 4/29 to see our home in
Saratoga Springs, NY, for the first time. She was a bit cold at first and even enjoyed wearing her
winter coat outside, but now that summer's finally here, she's quite comfortable, maybe sometimes
even too hot! She's happy here because, as the barn and house on the same piece of property, she
has a lot more freedom to run and explore than she does in Florida. She knew right away to stay out
of the riding ring just like she had learned to do in Florida. And she's learned to follow us while we
ride outside the ring elsewhere on the property, which we don't do in Florida. Tracy has also been to
our house on the beach in Fairfield, CT, several times and really enjoys watching the various sea birds.
She was very surprised to learn she could not walk on the water of Long Island Sound. She was at
the edge of the water watching a honking swimming bird when she suddenly dashed toward it. Five
feet into the surf, she was up to her chest in the still seasonally cold water. She halted, then tiptoed
around in a circle and gingerly walked out of the water. She had to have a nice warm bath to get the
salt water off of her. So now she just watches the swimming birds! Tracy's been to her first away
horse show with us, living in the RV, riding the golf cart and staying tied by the tack room with the
other dogs while at the showgrounds. She seems comfortable with the arrangement, waiting patiently
for her turn for attention, and happy to be where everyone else is. She has three other dogs for
company at the shows: our horse trainer's dog, Rocket, who just celebrated his 15th birthday, a young
Jack Russell, Maggie Mae, and a young Pomeranian mix, Tammy. We've also been away from Tracy
several times overnight, including a 5 day trip to California. She's done very well with her various baby
sitters as she is well behaved and an easy keeper (good eater). In fact, she's gained a total of 16
pounds and now tips the scales at 69.3 pounds (which is maybe 2 or 3 pounds too heavy)! On 6/9,
Tracy had some cosmetic surgery! She had her 'puppy feeding equipment' reduced! She had a small
growth on one which needed to be checked (it was a benign cyst), so, while she was under
anesthesia, our vet snipped and stitched all of them! Tracy is looking and feeling quite svelte, and the
new people she meets no longer ask if she just recently had puppies! Overall she seems happy with
her circumstances. She now plays with soft stuffed toys and often greets us at the door with one in her
mouth while practicing her boxer wiggle. She runs as fast as she can to chase a thrown stuffed toy, so
fast that she can't stop to pick it up as she flies past it and swings by it several times before she gets it
and then runs with it in a big circle around us. We still need to work on her short leash skills and may
try a gentle leader this month. At her present weight she is a handful in a crowd, especially if she sees
another dog. She is great with other dogs though and only wants to get closer to them to say hello.
She now also has begun to bark at visitors, but stops when properly introduced. She travels well by
car, by plane, by helicopter and by golf cart, always happy to be going with us rather than get left
behind. We continue to be very happy with Tracy. She's a wonderful companion and well loved by all
who meet her. We're lucky she found us!

UPDATE 4/10/05 - Just a quick note for Tracy's two month adoption report: Tracy is great!
Everybody she's met just loves her! She seems quite comfortable in her new environment. She's eating
and sleeping well. She's gained about 8 pounds. She behaves well during her bath and her coat is now
shining. She loves company, which is a good thing because we've had lots of company this winter in
Florida! She knows our routines better than we do and is always ready to go when the car keys jingle,
racing to the door in front of us to be sure we won't forget her. She now knows, though, that when we
both dress to go out to dinner she won't be going with us, so she settles in a heap with a big sad sigh
and watches us walk down the hall to the door. She is at the door, however, when we return, to give
us a very happy hello! Tracy completed her basic obedience training in March. She already knew all
the basic commands cold. She does need a bit of practice on a short leash as she sometimes wants to
pull. She's great on the 30 foot roller leash, though. And when we are in our yard at home or at our
barn, she runs loose, sticking very close to us to be sure we don't lose her. After we practice on the 4
foot leash, we plan to take the Canine Good Citizen Test, that's how good she is. Tracy is really a
sweetheart! We are very happy -- and lucky -- to have her!

UPDATE 3/1/05 - Tracy, our adopted reverse brindle boxer, is really great!  She is a sweet girl, very
athletic and energetic.  We are quite sure she is younger than Stella and Dempsey were when we had
them.  She runs really fast big circles around us hardly able to make the corners she is going so fast!
And she can easily jump into the car on her own.  She loves the car and worms her way into it
whenever the door is opened.  She'll wait in the car in the garage for as long as it takes to ensure that
the car does not leave the garage without her!  She's eating well.  She's put on nearly 5 pounds since
we went to get her on February 1 (now up to 58 pounds) and her coat is getting thick and shiny.
Somebody spent time training her at some point along the way.  She knows everything we know how
to ask her to do.  She knows Come, Sit, Down (Lay Down), Stay, Wait, Leave It, Drop It, No, and
responds immediately to these commands.  We will meet with our dog trainer next weekend to learn
what else she may already know.  She's getting along great with the other four dogs at our barn.  And
she's adjusted well to the horses and sticks close to us, so she can be loose at the barn.  She's met our
youngest family members (four kids under four ranging in age from 1 month to 3 years old) and
behaved beautifully with them, perhaps stemming from her experience with her own puppies.  She
thinks she is a lap dog and loves to cuddle.  She sleeps through the night in her own bed in our
bedroom and is very well housetrained.  Just in the past few days, she has started to play with her
toys, meeting us at the door with a stuffed animal in her mouth when we come home from dinner and
actually squeaking a squeaky toy!  Tracy is a joyful addition to our household which had become very
quiet when we lost Dempsey.  We are really happy to have her and hope to have her a long while!

2/1/05 Tracy has been adopted!

01/23/05 - Tracy is just doing super at her foster home.  We have fallen in love with this sweet girl.
She is such a lady and we are sure enjoying her stay with us.  She went to the vet this week and only
needed a kennel cough vaccination and will be spayed this Thursday. She was very good with
everyone that she met.  She loves to ride in the car and is just a great passenger.  She really enjoys her
food and is fed kibbled dry mixed with a little warm water twice daily.  She is crated during the work
day and sleeps in our bedroom at night.  I have seen her play a little bit with a few of the other
residents here but she remains reserved.  She will pick on one of her foster parents by nibbling at our
fingers but all is done to get you to play. Everyday she seems to enjoy being here more and more.
She has had a few accidents in the house but the weather has been very cold and snowy and she
doesn't like to be outside too long.  Right now, she always needs one of us to go out with her.  She
will get a little nervous acting if she has to go and we need to be watching for signs that she is giving us.
Tracy will play with a few toys a little bit. I have also caught her licking her foster brothers or sisters
so I know that she is settling in here.  She seems very well behaved and I'm not sure that she needs to
be crated but for safety, we will continue with it for a little while longer.  She weighs 56 pounds now
and she could still stand to gain a little bit more.  We will also have a stool sample checked this week.
She loves the dog beds and earlier today she was sleeping with the puppy on one in front of the
fireplace.  So she is learning the good life here.  She is already very dedicated to us and know that she
will make a great addition to any family.  She will be ready soon.

01/18/05 - All the residents of the Boxer'In on the lake would like to welcome our newest guest
named Tracy.  Tracy was turned into rescue from a shelter and she would like to thank the great staff
from the shelter who helped her along the way.  Tracy would also like to thank Ralph for giving her a
ride through a little snow storm to get her safely into foster care.  Tracy is a beautiful 5 year old
unspayed reverse brindle girl with a docked tail, natural ears and a little bit of white on all four paws.
She apparently was used as a breeding machine as she looks like she mothered many many boxer
babies.  Poor girl.  It will take her a while to get back her girlish figure that's for sure.  She is up to
date on her vaccinations and will need to be spayed before she finds her forever home.  She is not a
very tall boxer but her built is like the German type of boxer (big head, big bones and a really
smooshed in nose).  By that description of her you have to know that I am going to say that she is
adorable.  She hasn't eaten well yet but her foster dad fixed her a bowl of boiled chicken and rice to
get her started tonight.  She is thin but I think she had puppies not that long ago by the look of things
so her body needs time to get her healthy again.  She will be put on good food and that should help
her coat in no time.  She has met all 6 other boxer residents here and she is doing a good job at
coping with them.  Not her favorite but she is doing well with adjusting and I expect her to come along
nicely.  She loves attention and already will follow her foster dad anywhere.  She has a lot of
experience with puppies and can make our puppy Peaches understand that she doesn't want alot of
fooling around. Good mothers like I'm sure she was, have a certain way of making a statement. She is
limping on her right foot and will cry if I try to look at it.  From what I can see, she might have a cut
from the ice inside her toes but she of course is a big baby.  We have put some antibiotic ointment on
it and she has a vet appointment on Thursday to get a checkup before spaying and we will have the
doctor take a peek. Her foster dad is not helping as once tonight I was summond to the bedroom to
see her on the waterbed with her hurt foot on my pillow. Tracy is already thinking that she likes this
resort but I also know that a new family to love her is what she needs the most.  Tracy was crated
today and was great. She went right in and thought the added treat of a filled peanut butter marrow
bone was a nice touch.  I hope that her life gets better from this point on.  Please check back to see
her progress.  She is so deserving of a new life with a new family.
