THYME

8/28/05 - Thyme was adopted!

8/15/05 - Just to update you on Thyme.  We did not take her to the specialist because we were at a loss as to her
problem and found it to be more behavioral than physical.  She is gaining weight, her diarrhea is under control.  I
have been feeding her three/ four times a day.  White rice, kibble, yogurt, home cooking, etc.  She likes her food and
even sits with the rest for their morning cookies.  I was a bit amazed that she actually "got it".

I appears that she has spent her life in an small enclosed kennel and she paces around in a circle constantly
within a small described perimeter even though she has the entire yard .  That would explain her very short nails.
Her hearing is fine and she hears me open the screen door even with her back to me.  He sight is marginal and
she cannot focus on the sounds, but does look in the general direction.  She will not walk on a leash and is
impossible to take out for a walk.  I was able to only once so far to get  her in the meadow.  All other times she just
lays down when we get outside the gate.

The biggest problem I have is that she has focused on the 17 year old, blind Pekingese and searches him out with
an obsessive attitude.  She will try to break down any barrier in he path.  She then boxes and generally makes it
impossible to allow her near Kabuki.  He cannot get away and she will injure him inadvertently.  She really wants to
play.  She tries with Bubba the Boston but he can get away even though he is now blind and mostly deaf (he
has many years of practice).  She has tried with Annabelle and Kelli who "don't play".  Magoo will only occasionally
indulge but not too often as he is not feeling well.

So my general feeling is a bit more optimistic than the first of August, and I think that if she can be fostered with a
family with other dogs the same size, she might be able to come around and stop the obsessive circling and lose
the general feeling of being alone and abandoned.  She really does not know how to interact with people and I sit
and try to cuddle but she has no idea what that is all about.  Again, the family needs a fenced backyard as she will
not yet go for a walk on the leash.  She is very sweet but needs a lot of interaction to heal mentally.

7/31/05 - Thyme arrived yesterday from a great shelter in NJ that needed our help. She was found as a stray 10
days ago and has some obvious problems. Her balance is off and we are not sure if she sees well. It is really hard
to tell what is going on. She is also very thin and has a large scar down one side of her.  She will see the doctor first
thing in the morning. Thyme is sweet as can be and beautitul. She loves the other dogs and gets all excited when
she is near them. Even when the old grumpy bloodhound was growling at her, her tail was going a mile a minute.
She wanted to be friends so bad but he was having nothing to do with it. She has meet some of the residents here
and was very happy to be friends. She ate a great dinner, settled down in her crate after a few minutes of fussing
and we didn't hear another thing until everyone got up this morning. She was happy to go out and roam around the
yard. She enjoys having attention and just being loved. I'm sure once we add some weight to this beautiful girl and
get her fixed up people will be lined up to adopt her. All she needs is a little time to get ready. We will update again
after her vet visit tomorrow.
