UPDATE 7/3/10 - Stitch died today.  He died quietly, he just stopped breathing and shortly after his heart stopped.
His cancer had recurred a few months ago, and while he  initially responded well to Prednisone... he broke
through and failed quickly over the past two weeks.

So glad to have had the short time I did with him.  He was a very special dog.

UPDATE 12/1/09 - Not so good news.  Stitch was diagnosed with lymphoma (cancer) this spring.  He received
several courses of chemotherapy, responded well, and is in remission as best as we can tell.  Fingers crossed.
He is otherwise happy and enjoying his middle-age.  Sleeping lots, lounging lots, generally quite content and he
doesn't seem to know that he is sick.
Just trying to enjoy each day as it comes, and not dwell on the sickness.  Hopefully this will last a while yet.

UPDATE 4/2/09 - I just looked back on your description of Stitch from back in 2005.  You were right on target.
Perfect description of him, with kids, with other dogs, his need for human contact... you couldn't have been more
exactly right.  Four years later, I would write the same thing.
Stitch continues to do well.  He is a really sweet dog.  I can't believe this is our fourth year together.  Time flies.  We
took another roadtrip together last year.  We were in a small town in PA for about a week.  By the time we left,
people were greeting him by name each morning on our walk.  He's quite the social butterfly.

UPDATE 3/30/07 - Stitch is doing wonderfully.  We recently came back from a vacation in Vermont.  He is a brilliant
travelling companion.
He has put on a few pounds and looks great.  He is all muscle (what with all the walking we do, and frequent visits
to the dog park where he runs around like crazy).
He still hates having his feet handled.  I don't think he will ever used to it... but I keep trying.
Otherwise we are both looking forward to a long, warm spring so we can start hitting the trails.

UPDATE 9/30/06 - Stitch is doing great.  He is excited that my parents recently got a St. Bernard puppy - a new
friend, and my brother just adopted a St Bernard female (2 years old) - another new friend.  It is a busy pack.
He spends time at the dog park, and everyone in town seems to know him.  I regularly hear, "aren't you the woman
with the big red dog?"... Yes, I'm Stitch's mom.

12/05 - Stitch has been adopted!

10/10/05 - Stitich is still waiting patiently for his forever home.  He has been with us awhile now and we have seen
some things come out the lead me to believe that he would be better suited to home without toddlers.  Although
Stitch loves all kids of all ages, he does have some food aggression around other dogs.  Even if the family had no
other dogs I'm not sure he wouldn't be tempted to take food from a toddler a little too forcefully.  Stitch remains an
absolute love and is happy to go anywhere with you.  We had him at a BRAD at the pet store the other day and he
loved the social atmosphere.  Stitch plays well with the dogs here, he just doesn't really need them for
companionship like some dogs do.  Stitch is more than happy to have constant human contact.  He happily curls
up on your feet when you are watching TV in the evening. He makes a super extra large foot warmer.  We are really
looking for that special home for this really super guy, if you think your home meets his needs get that application
in today.

08/31/05 - Stitch is a dogue de bordeaux (french mastiff) that was an owner surrender to a local shelter.  Stitch
needed to have some work done on his eyes and be evaluated by an ostepathic surgeon to see about his hips an
legs.  He has been here with us for a couple of months as the surgeon recommended exercise to gain muscle
tone before he decided what needed to be done if anything.  Stitch went in a couple of weeks ago and had his
eyelids fixed, that surgery went well and he looks so much better.  Stitch had curled under eyelids so he would get
constant infections and goopy eye.  At that time Stitch had xrays done and re-evaluated by the vet.  He said that
Stitch doesn't have the problems that they originally thought, a lot of the issues with his legs was due to extremely
poor muscle tone.  Now for his personality, Stitch is super friendly and loves everyone he meets.  He especially
love kids and is good with kids of all ages although due to his size he needs some supervision around toddlers
as he tends to knock them over. :o)  Stitch is just a great guy that trys really hard to fit in with the other dogs here.
He is good with the group and trys to do whatever they like.  He plays with the best of them but will also live and let
live with the ones that don't want to play.  If you want a big cuddle bug for your family and have the time to spend
with obedience training this is the guy for you.  Stitch is ready and waiting for his forever home.
