SHELBY State: ME Age: 3 years Weight: 55 lbs Neutered/UTD: yes/yes Children Under 4: No Children Over 4: Yes Separation Anxiety: No Other Dogs: No Cats: No Crate trained: yes House trained: yes Obedience trained: yes (completed a basic class) Leash trained: yes Microchipped: No Adoption Fee: $300 5/12/05 - Sadly Shelby had to be put down as she was not adoptable. I wanted to give her another chance, but after a short time my experience with many tough dogs, I knew she was not adoptable again. Along with her severe animal issues & seperation issues, I could see in her eyes she just was not a happy dog. It was like she had an extreme obsessive/compulsive type behavior & could not control herself. Shelby was not typical of a boxer personality. I am sorry I was not able to help her become adoptable again. I stayed with her until the end & gave her hugs & kisses the whole time & told her she was a good girl. 5/3/05 - Shelby has been exhibiting some behavioral issues, so we are evaluating her further to see if we can help her. 4/23/05 - Shelby moved to Maine today to try to find her new home. She rode well in the car & enjoyed the few stops along the way from NY. She definitely wanted to chomp on the kitties when she ran into them when she came in the house. We new she was not good with cats, but I was a litle surprised by just how extreme her prey drive is. Shelby settled into her crate for the night & was so tired she did not fuss too much. More updates soon. 3-13-05 - Shelby continues to wait for her forever family! She is doing well here and we are enjoying our last moments with her. We visited the vet the other day to update her and she has gained another 2lbs which is a great accomplishment for Miss Shelby as eating is not her top priority! She has recently made a new friend in the neighborhood. Our neighbor who lives behind us got a rescue border collie mix. Shelby introduced her self with her usual “tough girl” approach. She ran up and down the fence line barking and lunging at the new dog trying to show her she was the boss around here but it only took a few days for her to calm down and accept her. I actually caught them kissing through the fence the other day which was so sweet to see. Poor Shelby was not properly socialized as a puppy and she just can’t seem to get it together on a consistent basis with other dogs but as an only dog in the house she will be your best friend. I do recommend a fenced in yard to prevent other animals from having the “pleasure” of meeting her unexpectedly! Shelby will be here waiting for someone who is looking for a mushy faced, goofy girl who loves to give kisses. She will thrive in a home where she is “top dog” and can spend her time showing how devoted and loving she is to her family. 2/14/05 - Shelby is being returned to SCBR after 10 months with us. This was an extremely difficult decision as she is such a WONDERFUL girl. She is unable to remain with us due to her dog aggression. She is unable to consistently get along with our other boxer despite our best efforts. Other than this issue, Shelby is a great dog. She loves to run and play but is very calm when inside the house. She adores people and wants nothing more than to be curled up with her family. She attended a basic obedience class and knows all of her basic commands. She is house trained and is great on a leash. She is crate trained but not very happy about being in there when people are home. She loves to “talk” and will greet you with a “moo-like” noise that always brings a smile. She will follow you wherever you go just to make sure you are not going to leave. She had surgery in November to remove a growth, which turned out to be a benign tumor. Other than that she is very healthy and in great shape. Shelby is very sweet and desperately deserves a forever home. She needs to be the only animal in the house but other than that she is a very easy girl to have around. Shelby will be very missed around our house and whoever ends up with this beautiful, sweet, intelligent, loyal and funny girl will be very lucky. |
