UPDATE 8/11/11 - Still doing great, is loved, loves her "flying squirrel" toy, spry and energetic! She and her "brother"
JD (SCBR 9/07) keep this family laughing!
UDPATE 12/30/10 - Sassy continues to flourish, and enjoys life in overdrive with her boxer brudder JD (SCBR Sept.
07) and the rest of the farm family! She recently had a lump appear between two toes... we were thrilled to hear the
vet say that it was not cancer! It could be a cyst (commonly affiliated with low thyroid, but her coat was great, so the
vet eliminated that cause), or could be a local infection from a bit of foreign material (oh no, no boxer ever runs full
speed through the woods!!! OK, very likely!) Icthammol goop and wrapping, a course of Simplicef ... and no trace!!!
yayyyyy !
UPDATE 11/24/06 - Sassy has been with us for a year now and she is a perfect fit with our family! She loves her
boxer brother Casius (and accepts that he is in charge) and her kitty siblings. She sleeps with the sisters Spook
and Gem, our 5 year old cats After our rough start between Sassy and Spook, they are now the best of buds -
Sassy will be stretched out along my legs under the covers, and Spook will also be under the covers snuggled
against both Sassy and my feet- who'd-a-thunk!
She is Daddy's little girl - they adore each other! What a beautiful sight.. the two of them snuggled together. And
Sassy is the farm girl extraordinaire - she knows the routine, and lets us know if we are slacking. The daily tears
around the paddock, patrolling for errant turkeys and other wildlife... She loves being a farm dog! She loves to play
tug, with Casius or anyone... whoever is available. And her flying squirrel is showing the wear from her incessant
playing with that toy. She just had her wellness visit with the vet, and he was thrilled with her condition- she looks
great at 60 (pounds, that is!).
We absolutely love her. Many, many thanks for another wonderful, kidney-beaning happy boxer!
UPDATE 6/4/06 - We have been blessed with Sassy for six months now, and she is truly a gift and blessing to us
all. “Perfect does not begin to convey how well she is fitting into our menagerie. Sassy LOVES life here…..
horse chores, checking out the scents around the yard and paddock, freely running, jumping and doing the classic
“boxer burn/ butt down bogey"…… she is a great snuggle bunny, daddy’s little girl, typical goofy boxer,
and my barnyard buddy.
She came with a good obedience foundation, and we started her in obedience classes within two weeks of
coming home. We made such great strides in one series (7 classes), that we continued on our successes. After
the second series, she passed her Canine Good Citizen test. We made lots of progress, including long stays
during sit and down commands with many distractions- kibbles tossed towards the dogs, various cute and noisy
dog toys dragged around behind the trainer, people other than the dogs’ handlers calling to the dogs, etc.
Sassy and I had such fun, and the benefits of classes and practice were reaping such rewards at home we signed
up for a third series, along with many of our classmates. “We continued to grow in emotional and
psychological maturity, developing even more obedience and patience. The distractions in the classes continued
to increase, and Sassy became ever more obedient and focused. She will “down-stay in one corner of our
barn as our horses go into and out of their stalls- I NEVER envisioned in November that I would not have to tie her
during this activity!
From the first days when Sassy’s greatest drive was to chase our cats, they are now great friends, lying
together on the bed or sofa, nuzzling each other, and even playing tag (yep, one cat instigates it!). The cat that
Sassy was most driven to chase is now her greatest friend. Spook will go out of her way to weave between Sassyâ
€™s legs and will “cat danceâ€ on her hind legs to rub faces with Sassy, and will lie plastered up against
Sassy, even under the covers with her! Sassy and Casius are great buds She’ll lay with her head on Cashâ
€™s thigh, they’ll play tug of war and chase each other around the house…. But she knows when Cash has
had enough – a quick look and low grumble, and she’ll leave him alone. Then they’ll cuddle, and all is
well on the Acres – for all of us! We could not have been blessed with a better fit for our home.
UPDATE 3/1/06 - Sassy, C.G.C. - Sassy has been with us for three months, and it seems like it has been forever!
She always strives to please us, and loves to play with Casius. If he isn’t in the mood, she’ll tease him with
a stuffed toy, a rope, a ball….. until he can’t resist and joins in the game. She sleeps close to “her
cats each night. Two of them will go out of their way to walk up to her and rub against her legs. One will even â
€œdanceâ€ on her back legs and nuzzle Sassy’s face. And this is the cat on which she fixated when she first
arrived! We learned that she had immediately noted that this cat was low cat in the pecking order, and Sassy was
in pursuit of NOT being at the bottom of the pack. We knew that the dogs and the people in the family were a pack,
but it was news to us that the cats figured in this formula also! Sassy wasn’t aggressive to Spook, but she was
using the universal language of dominance to settle as high in our “pack as possible. After the last few
months of letting Sassy know that she was not allowed to physically dominate her (a gentle paw over Spook’s
back holding her down, etc.), Sassy and Spook have settled into their roles – Sassy is above Spook in the
hierarchy, but knows there are limits on behavior.
<>Sassy is perfectly suited for our home, and we love her dearly. She loves to snuggle with each of us, giving
gentle licks and receiving gentle strokes and scratches. And she continues to excel in her "farm chores", making
sure the horses and property are safe! We couldn’t have been blessed with a better gem!
Sassy is doing well in her Beyond Basics classes, and loves it – she gets very excited when we get close to the
facility. March 1 she completed the second 7 week series of group obedience classes, and got tested for her
Canine Good Citizen certification- and passed! We are so proud of her! We have returned for the next 7 week
session to continue the progress we have made since November, and to continue with the fun we both have each
week.
UPDATE 1/21/06 - Goofy! If we had to come up with one word to describe Sassy, it would be goofy….. but it works
best with another word – perfect! This charmer of a girl fits perfectly into our family. From her first days here when
she snuggled next to Dad all day in bed as he recuperated from surgery, learned how to live with cats and became
best buds with her boxer brother Casius, until today- it is evident that she is perfect for our menagerie. She leaps
like a gazelle as she runs around the yard and paddock, then dives into a snowbank and digs at it furiously. She
loves the noisy toys…. “boing-boing bunny “quack-quack duck, and “ribbit-ribbit frog…
she entertains herself (and makes us laugh out loud!)- she chews them to make noise, then barks and growls at
them, then chews some more. She and Dad are great tug-of-war comrades, and she’ll smile for hours after a
good tussle. Smile! It took a few weeks for the classic boxer ear-to-ear smile to become a major part of her day,
but it is now a fixture- the tug games are a very large reason. Sassy also knows that she has a job, and she takes
it very seriously. If I go to the barn without her, she is very unhappy until I take her out and she checks each horse.
Only THEN can she relax, knowing she has finished her work. We work on the Nothing in Life is Free method, and
she is blossoming. She graduated from obedience class and proudly(?!!?) wore her mortarboard after receiving
her certificate. She truly is the Lick-a-Nator, but she has progressed to a few gentle loving kisses for Mom and Dad
before plopping next to us. Except when we visit Grandma and Grandpa…… then the Lick-a-Nator is in full
swing! It is hilarious!
We cannot express just how wonderfully this beautiful girl is working out, and how grateful we are for the privilege
of sharing our home with her. Casius also loves having a little sister- many thanks to everyone.
UPDATE 12/1705 - Sassy is fitting into our family beautifully! She gets along great with her older boxer 'brother' and
continues to improve learning to live with our cats. We're three weeks into our obedience classes with Lynn. She
already knew lots of commands, and is getting better in her group classes (she wants to play with everyone-
typical boxer!). She LOVES doing farm chores, checking her horses and making sure we are 'safe' from the wildlife
here on the farm. She saw her first deer the other morning, and after making sure that she 'chased' it out of the
paddock, came right back when called. She's had a couple of accidents in the house, but we believe that we
missed her requests to go out. Any suggestions how to teach her to look us in the eyes and bark? We tend to be
dense sometimes :(
She is a real goofball- she is perfect here! We believe she was chosen by Rocco and God to bless us, and has
brought youth back into our family. No one will ever replace Rocco, but she certainly has made a fitting successor.
She is quick, agile and joyful.... she'll run full speed for several strides, bound about 4 feet in the air, run a couple
more strides, another bound.... she loves farm life! She is forever inciting play - with her brother, with us, and she'll
bring a toy to the cats, wondering why they won't grab it and run, or play tug-of-war with her! Her playful and
affectionate ways have captured our hearts. Many thanks to SCBR for both of these wonderful dogs.
11/19/05 - Sassy has been adopted!
11/14/05 - Sassy arrived at her Foster Home safe and sound yesterday. Check out the pictures Anne sent. They
prove that Sassy has a tongue and we found out quick SHE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!
More info later as we get to know her better.
11/11/05 - Sassy is an owner surrender due to the unexpected new twins. Two dogs and two babies were just too
much for her family to handle and the did not feel they had enough time for Sassy anymore. She will be coming in
this weekend to find her new home. Watch for updates and new pictures from her foster home.
UPDATE 2/28/05 - Sassy is awesome! We love her so much. She has found her way into our hearts. She has
come along way with her obedience. She listens very well. She has made a lot of friends in the neighborhood. Still
barks at strangers and odd sounds. She is giving Jake (our fawn boxer) a run for his money. Often times I watch
them out the window playing in the back yard. Sometimes Jake wants to be left alone. But Sassy will paw him, and
paw him until he chases her. It's the funniest thing to see. She has been doing wonderful in her forever home. She
is even completely crate broken. We get to leave her out in the house with Jake is we can't bring them with us. I
think it's very safe to say that Sassy is very happy in her forever home and gets a tons of hugs, kisses, and pats
everyday!!!
PS she has gained weight and looks beautiful!
UPDATE 11/2/04 - Sassy loves her forever home. I didn't take her long to find her way into our hearts. This is a big
month for her. She turns ONE!!!!! We are going to celebrate with her favorite hike in the woods and frozen paws ice
cream. Her and Jake (our male boxer) are inseperable. It's the CUTEST thing, they pal around together and stick
together when other dogs are around. Sassy loves to give kisses. We've nick named her the "Lick-a- nator"
because every free minute she has (when she isn't running around the back yard having fun) she comes right up
to you and licks you to death. It's so cute!!! She has really come along way with her manners. She listens a lot
better and seems really comfortable with her forever home. One things she is starting to do is "stay" and sit upon
command. She still gets a bit nervous around other people and her bark is scary but once you pat her, forget about
it, here comes the lick-a-nator. Lol!!! We are really enjoying her and we love her so much!! Thank you second
chance for letting us adopt her. She is a special little friend.
UPDATE 9/7/04 - Sassy is the sweetest, cutest, most lovable addition to our family. She is adjusting to her forever
home quite well. She gets along great with her new brother Jake. They follow each other everywhere and love to
cuddle with each other. I take them for long walks every morning and Sassy loves to run threw the sprinklers
during our walk, she even got Jake to do it too when he use to be afraid of them. Sassy loves to snuggle in the bed
with you. Jake even lets her sleep in his special spot. They share everything. I love to watch them sleep because
they use each other for pillows, it sooooo cute.
Sassy is going to the vet on Wednesday for a check up and then Thursday we are all heading to New Hampshire
for a vacation. Can't wait to see if they swim in the lake.
Sassy will be starting obedience training in a few weeks. We will go next week to sign her up. Oh I forgot, she has
mastered the art of jumping over the fence out of the yard. We are working on this issue with her. She is a little
jumping bean. We'll see how much weight she has gained when we take her to the vet. She sure does has a great
appetite.
We have grown very attached to Sassy and I know Jake has too. I will update more next time.
UPDATE 8/14/04 - Sassy has been adopted.
8/10/04 Single young female who is wild and crazy seeks forever family for lots of activity and play time. Forever
family must have another dog, lots of time and engery and room on the couch for a kissy small girl. Don't let my
dainty size fool you, I love to run, jump and play. A baby gate is just an obstacle to jump back and forth over. My
crate makes me settle down and sleep through the night. Housebroken 100 percent, do you think a pretty girl like
me would pee on the floor. NO Way. Other K-9's who like to play only need apply. I want a friend to roll and run with,
share toys, treats and a family. I need a little time to warm up to new people but once I do watch out the kisses are
coming. Bark, not me I know that is annoying. I will let you know if someone is here though. Run off or out the door,
why they feed me well and play with me all the time. I have no where I need to go. Car rides, well that means not
being left behind a good thing in my book. The vets, he was ok checked me over and said I was in great shape. He
did say I could put on a few pounds. How many girls wish they heard that from their doctors? Active, Fun, Loving ,
Playful and A little Shy are the best way to describe me. Are you the family that I have always wanted? Sassy
Sassy is a cute little brindle girl with natural ears and a docked tail. She is an owner surrender because they did
not have the time and energy to work with a boxer puppy. Sassy lived with 3 kids that she adored. Sassy is a little
shy but warms up quickly. She seems to be completely cratetrained and housebroken. We have not had a problem
with either. She is dying to get one of the other dogs to play with her but no takers yet. Sassy is a super sweet girl
that would do well with another dog and someone that had time to spend with her. We will update you as we get to
know her better.
