Sadie (scbr adopted 6/18/2005) went to the bridge today, in my arms with lots of cuddling
and stroking, very peacefully. A vet friend who does house calls and whom I've known
before she was born came and euthanized her here at home. A hard decision but she
collapsed with congestive failure 10 weeks ago and had a subsequent 9.5 weeks, with
medication for the fluid and a severe heart murmur and arrhythmia , on "borrowed" time - her
vet called her "the dog with 9 lives" - coughing a dry hacking cough a few times a day and
sleeping most of it, but 2 days ago the cough became deeper, each one shook her whole
body and she became unsteady on her legs. She was suffering and it wasn't fair to let her just
because she was my companion and homebody, so I had to let her go.
Since Sadie was #7 in our long line of boxers, I'll probably approach scbr very soon looking
for #8. Each was special and can't be replaced but oh, I miss having such a companion to
come home to.
