UPDATE 8/24/05 - We can't believe it's been a month since we brought Oz home. Oz is having a great time
adjusting to his new family. He finished his obedience training today.  His trainer gave him very high marks and
a squeaky toy for graduation. He loves his squeaky toys. The first time we took Oz to the store and showed he a
squeaky toy he played with it for hours and would carry it his mouth and followed us all over the house and yard
--it is so cute!  He is a very lovable and affectionate dog who kisses everyone who lets him!  He'd go everywhere
with us if he could..we think he wants to learn how to drive so he can go on even more car rides!!
Oz made his first visit to the vet a few weeks ago and we were glad to see that he had gained some weight and
was in great condition.  Oz made his second visit to the vet last week because he ate the trash and became very,
very sick.  He had inflamed bowel, elevated pancreatic enzymes and fluid in his lungs.  He spent a few days in
the hospital on antibiotics and he is feeling better much, much better (but a few pounds lighter again!).  We've
definitely learned that being a good dog around trash 99% of the time doesn't make up for the 1% of potential
damage.  We had a few sleepless nights worrying and are very grateful to have him back home healthy and
happy.
We can't wait to see what fun games come up next month!  We love having him and are so happy he came to live
with us.

UPDATE 7/16/05 - Well, it's been one week since we brought Oz home. He is adjusting and so are we! Our two
cats don't know what to make of him, but he is good as gold with them (even though they eat his food). Oz loves
long walks, car rides and long naps. We now have to spell R-I-D-E, instead of saying it out loud or he'll beat us to
the door. He follows us both around and never wants to be alone. This is good because he is so sweet, but bad
because he hates his kennel. It's been difficult leaving him for even short periods of time since he gets upset,
howls, barks, drools and practically hyper-ventilates with anxiety. He even jumped out a screened window to get
to us outside. We are working very hard on kennel training and positive reinforcement. All in all, it has been a
busy week, but we wouldn't trade it in for the world. He is a wonderful dog who loves giving hugs, kisses and
welcomes any one to our door. He is extremely loyal and loveable dog!!

7/9/05 - Oz has been adopted!

7/3/05 - Oz came in last week from one of our local shelters.  Thank you Judy & Leann for getting him in!  He was
found as a stray & his owners never claimed him so the shelter called us to find him a new home.  The shelter
did find out his name is Oz, but that is all we know.  We think he is about 2 years old, is a pretty reddish-fawn with
a black mask, docked tail & natural ears.  He weighed 57 lbs when he was neutered last Thursday & he tested
negative for heartworm & lyme disease & had his shots updated.

I picked up Oz from Leann this afternoon as she is getting ready for vacation soon.  He is a sweet boy & loves to
ride in the car.  He had a good time spending a few hours tonight bonding with me while I did some errands.  Oz
enjoyed sharing some dinner with me & loved being scratched on his neck while I drove.  I stopped at one point
& he put his paw up on my arm as if to say "Hey!  Don't stop!".  Of course it worked & I started scratching his neck
again! LOL  A little bit later when I stopped petting him, he leaned over to me & gave me a little kiss!  He is such
a sweet boy!

We got home & he meet my big boss kitty, Dude,  & all went very well.  Oz didn't react at all & Dude did not even
smack him once & rubbed up against his face a few times.  Now THAT is unusual as Dude ALWAYS smacks
new dogs, no matter how nice & non-threatening to him they are!   I will work on introducing him to my dogs after
he has a little time to settle in.  He went in his crate with a few treats & a little shove & he only fussed for a little
while.  Watch for more updates on the "Oz-man" soon!
