UPDATE 11/8/05 - It has taken less than a week for Mugsy to become a beach bum! He fits right
into the surf culture. Get up early and take a walk down to the beach. Spend a little time romping in
the sand. (Reminding Mom that Boxers chasing balls in the sand will end up with not only a slobbery
mouth, but a sandy one too! We no longer play ball in the soft sand) Then lounging on the couch,
eating a bit and taking a few laps around the block for the rest of the day, until it is time for the
nightlife and a nice walk down in the park by the bay! He has been doing great and is such a great
Boxer. I get compliments about how gorgeous he is on every walk that we take! He was a little
reluctant to go into the crate at first, but now that he is getting set in the routine, he is much more
willing to go into the crate when I am leaving for work in the morning. (Treats as soon as he is
actually IN the crate are helping too!) He is still EXTREMELY excited whenever anyone arrives at
the house. We are talking full body wiggle, kidney bean, running and getting a toy, and unfortunately
some jumping. He does not jump when my rommate or myself get home, but whenever it is someone
new he jumps. We are working on it, and hopefully will break him of this particular habit. Mugsy is
also quite the squirrel chaser!! He nearly took my arm off on one of our first walks! He was such a
perfect gentleman on the leash when walking, that I wasn't paying very close attention...the next
second he was off like a shot after a squirrel! Now I pay closer attention and let him chase them to a
tree, then he will balance on his hind legs looking up into the tree. It is quite funny! He also really
does love playing on the beach. He will wade into the water and chase the waves. As soon as teh
water starts to come towards him he shuffles back... then chases forward again. A lot of my friends
think it is hilarious to watch him mesmerized by the ocean! I will update more as we continue to get
to know one another better!
10/30/05 - Mugsy has been adopted!
10/17/05 - Hi, my name is Mugsy. I've been in my new foster home for a week now and I've learned
a lot since I arrived. I have learned that the two resident boxers (both old ladies) do not do 'boxer
play'. They say they are too old for that kidstuff! I've learned that foster mom's 16 year old grandson
does like to play rough and we have a great time with the rope tug. I've learned that the 8 year old
grandson loves to put me through my obedience paces (i'm pretty goooood!). I'm learning about cats.
They are not very appreciative creatures! I try to guard them when they eat and take naps but they
just growl at me........ An 11 month old baby came to visit this weekend. I washed his face good for
him! My foster mom and dad allow me to sit in their comfy chairs with them; it is soooo relaxing! I
will write more later as I get to know everybody better, love and boxer kisses, mugsy.
10/10/05 - Poor Mugsy is being surrendered to SCBR to try to find another home. His last home
said he was too playful for their other boxer & was stressing their other dog out. More updates &
new pictures soon from his foster home.
UPDATE 6/2/05 - Well, Mugsy is completely adjusted (and so are we) and all is fantastic as it was
in the beginning. Mugsy has 2 more obedience classes left at Petsmart, and he will be a 2 time well
trained boxer champ! He is just the sweetest most affectionate dog who has the wiggles like you
wouldn't believe! He literally bends in half when he wiggles, and my only concern is that his back end
might come off! He and Cole (our first boxer) love each other (like brothers). They get along great,
but I can tell that every now and then they annoy each other. Mugsy is fantastic with our 2 year old
daughter, and she loves having him around! So, that's the scoop on our spoiled pup. We hope that
others are as blessed as we have been!
UPDATE 4/7/05 - Mugsy is doing awesome in his new home! We are still wondering what we ever
did without him...he fits in perfectly here. My husband will be coming home on a 2 week leave from
his deployment in the middle east, and meet Mugsy for the first time...he will be smitten within about 5
minutes...I am positive of that! Mugsy is fantastic with my 2 year old daughter, and even better with
his new boxer brother Cole. They get along like they have always been together. Mugsy was
obviously taken care of at his previous home, because he has been nothing but a joy to have in our
family. Thank you so much SCBR for adding so much to our family!!!
UPDATE 3/8/05 - I just wanted to give you a little update on Mugsy. He is doing so fabulously here
in his new home. I just can't remember life before 2 boxers in the house. He is such a sweet and
lovable baby doll! He wants nothing more than constant love from his family, and we're more than
willing to give it! He is soooo well behaved that he's even teaching Cole a thing or two around here.
He definately has alot of energy, and demands playtime from Cole for about 4-6 hours a day. Good
thing Cole is a year younger! He does great on a leash, and LOVES his walks! He sits, stays,
shakes, lays down and comes on command like a champ! What a dream...I definately got a deal
here! He learned how to eat from the free feeder without over-indulging, and was using the doggy
doors after only a few hours! He is so loved by my 2 year old daughter, and definately loves her
back with lots of sloppy boxer kisses. My husband will get to meet him at the end of April when he
comes home.
3/05 - Mugsy has been adopted!
02/14/05 - Mugsy had a great weekend with us! I picked him up from his owner on Saturday
afternoon, he is a BEAUTIFUL Boxer, fawn, 3 1/2 yrs old, very energic and FUN! The owner
bought him from a breeder and paid a lot of money for him, even hired him a dog-walker during the
day so he was well taken care of, but I think this is a case of baby vs. boxer and the baby won! :o(
He has been living in a one-dog home his whole life and you can tell because he was a little
over-protective of his food and toys once he met my dog Draco (who is the sweetest dog ever!).
Other than that, Mugsy is the model boxer, does the wiggle when you pat him, is a total
snuggle-bunny and is just the smartest,
sweetest dog you will ever meet! He knows a ton of commands, is excellent on the leash, great in the
car and just so darn cute! I am thinking he will make someone's life because he just aims to please!
More to come, I will update as I get to know him better!
