UPDATE 11/10/06 - Hi Everyone,
Sorry I have not been keeping you updated about Maxine.  We just moved to Connecticut and are finally settled
down.  She was great with the 6 hour drive from Rochester.  We were curious how she would do with the ride but
she was amazing, either looking out the window or just laying down in the back.
Michael and her are like little kids, he likes to turn her over and tickle her, she gets all excitied about it.
She has been the best dog for us, being first time dog owners.  She's really relaxed, but can get real excited.
She wasn't quite a cuddly, lap dog when we first got her but I think she finally realizes she is in a great home with
people who love her very much.
As for her health; she was good up until last week or so when she got fleas and then had an illergic reaction and
a infection.  But all is well now, we took her to the vet and put her on meds.  We are already seeing a change and
the rash on her belly has already gone away.  We just took off the cone she had to wear so she didn't lick her
bottom.
She is doing very well other than that, playing with her toys and just hanging out.

UPDATE 10/18/05 - Maxine is such a sweet girl.  She settled in and made herself at home very quickly.  She
loves to chew, chew, chew.  The boxers (Lexi and Lancer) have had several toys for months now and never
played w/ them.  The second Maxine picks a toy and starts chewing, both boxers want the toy she has.  Just like
kids, huh?  She doesn't pay much attention to the cats, she has chased them a few times, but now knows the
rules about chasing the kitties.  She loves to go for car rides.  She actually loves to just sit in the van, even if we
aren't going anywhere.  She is so laid back, just about anything makes her happy.  Maxine can be stubborn at
times, she likes to do things on her own time.  She is getting much better tho.  We started obedience right away,
she likes all the dogs in class.  She is so funny, she gets up and sits on the metal folding chair when the
instructor is speaking.  Lancer and Maxine are really cute when they play together, Maxine is just the right height
to nip at Lancer's jowls.  Lexi is having a harder time adjusting, but they are figuring things out. Maxine has 2
favorite times of the day....breakfast and supper.  That girl can run fast if it's meal time.  We always laugh when
she runs, it is so darn cute!  Maxine is a great girl.  We really love her alot!

9/17/05 - Maxine has been adopted!

8/10/05 - Everything continues to go well here with Miss Maxine. Maxine was a very nice girl for my daughters
birthday party. The dogs stayed upstairs in the bedroom for awhile then I brought her out to meet everyone. She
saw my father sitting outside on the wicker love seat and immediately ran over, jumped up and planted herself
next to him. She was so well behaved and was not fazed in the least by the oodles of people here. She really just
goes with the flow. Later that night we walked across to the beach to see the fireworks, I left Maxine in my
bedroom with the AC and TV on she did well. She does get extremely nervous during thunder storms too, poor
girlie is very sensitive to loud noises. She is a world class dog food thief and is forever breaking into the
laundry room to steal some food from the bin. Unfortunately the pocket doors make this easy! Funny thing is I
know she's not hungry, she did it this morning right after she ate! Because she always acts so hungry I have
been feeding her a bit extra but between that, the lack of activity from it being so hot and the food she steals she
needs to loose a few pounds. I just bought her a bag of Lite dog food hopefully that will work to make her feel
"full" without packing on the pounds.

The other thing I have found that Maxine doesn't like is getting her nails clipped. One look at the clippers she
freaked. I have tried a few times but have not gotten anywhere. I am going to have to take her to the groomer
this week to get them taken care of. Hopefully she will behave for them. I don't know if she is just not used to
getting her nails done, she was the same way with brushing when she first got her but now allows me to do that
without any problems.

Maxine is really a good dog. She has by far been one of the easiest dogs I have fostered. Maxine just needs a
home where her stubborn bulldog ways are not accepted. With this breed firm leadership is a must. Don't get
me wrong she is a great dog but with a passive owner I can very easily see her taking over. Maxine continues to
be great with my dogs and my children. Watching her run in the yard and keep up with the Boxers is a riot. I don't
know how those little Bullie legs move that fast. So, Maxine is still patiently waiting.....although she is having fun
here she really needs a special family to call her own.

7/28/05 - Maxine continues to do well. I spoke to Maxine's previous owner the other day. Maxine is very used to
being around children from newborn and up. The previous owner agreed that Maxine adores children.  Her
family is devastated that they had to give her up. Unfortunately they had to move and were unable to find a rental
that would allow a dog. Everyone misses her terribly but they were happy to hear that she is with a rescue and
will find a great home.

Don't let Maxine's stoic looks fool you. As you can see by the pictures she can be quite adventuresome. I never
thought she would go down my sons slide! She is a silly girl and always gives us a good laugh.

Yesterday was the first cool day we have had here for awhile. We took Maxine and the Boxers for a long walk. We
stopped at the local pizzeria/ice cream shop. The owner, Les, is an animal lover, since he works long hours he
is unable to own a dog. To make up for not having a dog all his fur friends get a free dish of soft serve (vanilla of
course). Maxine really thought she hit the JACKPOT, she got every last drop out of her dish then tried to mooch
some of my husbands cone. Les takes a picture of every dog that comes to visit. Maxine now has a picture on
the wall of the pizzeria for all to see.

Everyone who comes over comments on what a nice dog she is. She has impeccable manners when it comes
to greeting people and is very easy going. She allows complete strangers into my home with no problems. My
daughters birthday party is Saturday, I have a big family so there will be a lot of people here. I will let you know
how she does....something tells me she is going to be the life of the party!

7/19/05 - Hi Everyone,
It's me Maxine. I have decided to take matters into my own paws and send in an update. I truly thought my foster
mom's phone would be ringing off the hook for me because I am such a great dog. I am very confused as to why
my perfect family hasn't come around yet. My foster brothers have been very supportive they think it has to do with
the fact that I am a Bulldog in a Boxer Rescue! Antonio & Jamie believe it will just take a little extra time for a
Bulldog loving family to find me.
I continue to be a good girl. I think my foster mom is in love with me. I keep hearing her tell people how great I
am. If she keeps it up I am going to be full of myself! The other dogs here are cool. The 4 of us get along
extremely well. The skin kids, well I LOVE them. Especially Alexandra who's almost 10. I kinda hope I am still
here for her birthday party (she promised to slip me a piece of cake!).
It's been real hot here so we haven't been doing much. My favorite summer sport is to attack the water coming
out of the garden hose. I snuck up on my foster mom one day when she was watering I ran up to the hose to get
a good blast in the face. I got a bit too close, the water splashed and got my foster mom soaked. Luckily she just
laughed and she allowed me to play for awhile. It felt great. The other dogs are a bunch of sissies and think they
will **melt** if they get wet. I heard mom talking about taking me down to the lake to see if I like the water. I think
that sounds like fun, hope she takes me soon!
Guess it's time for me to go.....I think I hear someone watering! Yippee!!
Wiggles and Slurps, Maxine

7/5/05 - Maxine made it through the 4th of July. I felt so badly for her last night. She was barking (which she rarely
does) and running from the front door to the back door. She was a bit frenzied by all the noise. As soon as the
fireworks stopped she was back to her normal self. She must have really worn herself out last night as she has
been sleeping a lot today.

Maxine continues to do well here. She is feeling great, her infections have cleared up. Her skin that was once dry
is looking good and her coat has a great shine. Maxine is finally starting to play with toys I guess it just took her
awhile to settle in. She dug to the bottom of the toy basket to find that "perfect" toy she was looking for. The
treasures at the bottom of the basket are her favorites.

I really think Maxine needs a home with kids. She is great with my dogs but I don't think she would care either
way but she is very attached to both my children. She follows my daughter around like they are best friends,
whines if one of my kids go in the house without her etc. I think she would be devastated without little ones. She
is also a prefect dog for a busy house with children and adults coming and going. She greets everyone nicely,
never any jumping or being to pushy. She gladly accepts any attention she is given then goes about her
business.

Guess that's it for now. I will get some new pictures this week. The current ones are from when she wasn't
feeling well. She looks much healthier and happier now!

6/26/05 - A week has passed and Maxine continues to do well here although in her opinion it should be cooler.
She is not enjoying the heat wave we are having. She is pretty good about laying low and staying cool. Maxine is
beginning to settle in and her personality is beginning to show. She "talks" (a growly low pitch squeal) when she
wants to be pet and won't take no for an answer. Maxine is also startled by some noises. The loud cars, popping
sound of small fireworks (someone in the neighborhood has been setting them off every once in awhile) gets
her all worked up. She gets nervous and a bit frantic. With Fourth of July coming soon it is in her best interest to
be kept securely indoors so she does not get nervous and escape.

Maxine has no problems sharing food, toys, attention etc. with the other dogs. I gave all 4 of them a bone as a
special treat the other day and there were no problems what so ever. I can put my hand in her bowl when she's
eating definitely no issues there. Maxine's infection seems to be clearing up. Still not 100% but much better and
her eyes have cleared up nicely. Maxine is missing a lower canine tooth and her other canines are not in the
best of shape...worn and one broke. The vet did not seem to think it was any problem at this point. It is not
causing her any discomfort and she's eating fine.

Maxine continues to be a great dog and no bother to have here at all. If you are looking for a dog that is a bit lazy
and laid back look no further. Maxine wants nothing more than to be loved, pet, fed and taken for car rides!

6/21/05 - Well is has been a fun few days with Maxine. This Bullie girl is one nice dog! Maxine gets along well
with both my children (my daughter is almost 10, my son almost 3). She also continues to be great with my 3
dogs. Maxine is quite agile, she leaps onto the swing in the back yard and lays down for a nap. She also loves
sitting in the chairs in the backyard. I swear she thinks she is human. Maxine is housebroke, not a single
accident. I don't know about being crate-trained as I have had no need to crate her. When we did errands Sunday
she was kept gated in the family room. Since then she has been out with my dogs.

Maxine went to the vet today. We got some antibiotics for an infection. She has some colorful gunk coming out of
her nose. Her eyes were also a bit red and goopy so she has meds for that as well. She had her heartworm test
and a fecal. Her fecal tested positive for parasites so she is also starting treatment for that. Otherwise she got a
clean bill of health. Everyone at the vet office loved her and she was very well behaved.  One thing we have
figured out with Maxine is that she is obsessed with cars (car rides). I took her to my parents today and after she
got a few pats on the head she kept pulling me down the driveway. She ran over to my fathers car and sat
patiently thinking I was going to let her in. I literally had to drag her back up to the house only to start the whole
ordeal of her trying to get back to the car over again. She does this here too, if we go to take her for a walk she
immediately runs to the car and tries to get in. Doesn't necessarily matter who's car it is either. We will try to work
on this issue as it is not fun to have a Bulldog lay down and not move when you want them to! Maxine will be
perfect for someone who likes to take their dog for car rides.

Maxine eats Royal Canin Bulldog 24 and really seems to like it. We usually mix in a bit of yogurt or tablespoon of
canned. She is a bit fussy about treats....imagine that a Bulldog that won't eat everything! BilJac liver treats or
hard biscuits are her favorites. She turns her nose up at the lamb treats my crew goes crazy for.  If you are
looking for a calm, well behaved dog that you don't mind taking for car rides Maxine is the girl for you!

6/18/05 - Maxine arrived after a long day of traveling. I would like to THANK the many transporters and our
transport coordinator for taking time to help her. Maxine got to her foster home late this evening. She ate a great
dinner, had a drink and investigated her new pad. She met the other residents (Maisey who is also a Bulldog &
Antonio and Jamie the Boxers) through the gate. She seemed really happy to see them, her little corkscrew tail
was going a mile a minute. After awhile I did let everyone meet. Generally I don't do introductions so quickly but I
just had a feeling the 4 of them would be fine. Just a little sniffing now everyone is settled down for a nap. I will
get some pictures tomorrow and update again once Maxine settles in. I have a feeling she won't be in rescue for
long.
