UPDATE 2/15/05 - Carla formaly known as Lyla (she did not respond to Lyla.  We kept calling her
Carmen, or last boxers name, so we combined both names into Carla.  She is slowy overcoming her
fear of everything.  At first she was happy hiding in a quite area of the house, usually on our bed.
We closed the bedroom door so she was forced to mingle with my wife and me.  She still is very
cautious when she is introduced to anything new.  She has begun to play with the large collection of
toys and has grown attached to a stuffed duck.  She has gained about 5 pounds over the last month.
She will begin school Saturday.  She spent a week with Erik, our oldest son, and she had him taking
time off from work to play with her.   We are beginning to see many of the Boxer traits showing
themselves.  She is a very loving puppy and loves to play and sit with us.

1/15/05 - Lyla has been adopted!

1/9/05 - Lyla is making alot of progress at her foster home. Lyla is now with all her foster brothers
and sisters but she isn't sure that she likes that set up.  The last dog that we introduced her to was
our puppy Peaches and the funny thing is that she has no problem with her and loves to play with
her. The others at times are okay but then she will give just one quick snap to let them know that she
doesn't want them messing with her.  Little does she know that they don't really care if she  likes
them or not.  They have met so many dogs that a new one doesn't even require a sniff. We are
working on teaching her that behavior like that is not acceptable.  She seems to have made her safe
zone on our waterbed where she spends alot of time.  We are trying to get her more active with all
of us but she is frightened alot.  Just a noise of an ice cube dropping on the floor sends her to her
safe zone.  We are working on some basic obedience with her and she doesn't really respond to her
name so we continue to help her with that. She is a great eater and looks forward to her meals.  She
is eating kibbled with a little warm water twice daily.  She loves dog treats and we are working on
her manners.  She would like to have every treat that is passed out but she has to learn that she
needs to share.  We are really pleased with her progress.  One thing for sure is that she loves people
and any attention that we can give her.  She will actually play with you.  Our hope is that she will
soon start to relax and not take life so seriously.  It about breaks your heart seeing her struggle with
just everyday things that we all take for granted.  She will become very devoted to the family that
loves her.  We are making lots of progress in the right direction in such a short while.

1/7/05 - Boxer'In on the lake has a new guest and her name is Lyla.  Lyla is a 1 year old spayed
fawn female who has natural ears. a docked tailed, 4 white paws, white chest and black mask.  She
has the cutest nose as it has a little bit of pink on it and it just makes her adorable.  Her story is a sad
one for being such a young age.  She was turned into us from an all breed rescue who had gotten her
out of a shelter, apparently she had been stolen from her owners but returned after a month of who
knows what happened to her but they felt she was a different dog and turned her into the shelter. So
Lyla would like to thank the rescue for helping her on her way to a great life.  She was also
transported to her foster home by some great volunteers consisting of Martin, Ralph, Bev and Leah.
We also thank you for getting her safely to her foster home.  Lyla is a little girl and she loves people
but is also very timid.  She loves the attention that she is getting and we are working on getting her
belly filled up as she is a little thin.  She is great in her crate during the day and is very quiet in there.
She did have an accident in there yesterday during the work day but I'm sure she will be better once
she learns that she is going to be all right and her new family is right around the corner.  It is apparent
that she likes children as she was all snuggled up in the back seat with one of the transporters son
named Danny. She liked him very much. Lyla has not been introduced to her foster brothers and
sisters yet as she appears to be a little jealous of them getting attention and I also think that she is
frightened a little bit by them. Our boxer puppy Peaches cannot get over the thought of another
boxer not being crazy about her.  She just keeps trying outside her crate and does a little jig trying to
tell her that she is her friend.  It is too cute to watch. She certainly isn't mean just doesn't want them
to bug her.  They have all met through the gate and as long as her foster dad and myself are not right
in the middle it is no big deal.  We will work on getting them together this weekend.  It will make her
stay here so much more fun, if she just accepts them.  I think she will with a little help and patience.
Last night she even played with her foster dad on the water bed.  She wants to act like the puppy
that she still is but is also so reserved right now.  Each day will get better.  She needs alot of coaxing
to go outside right now as she is just so unsure of everything.  I think we will see alot of improvement
in her over the next few days.  Check back to see how she is progressing.  We think she is great and
are happy to help her along the way.  She is so loving for all that she has been through.
