UPDATE 10/9/05 - We adopted Kanobi on September 10, 2005. We renamed him Tedi and he has taken very well
to his new name. The ride to his new home was uneventful. I knew he would fit in to our family really well as that
first evening he cuddled up next to me on the sofa, put his head on my chest and looked up at me, upside down,
with a big smile on his face. He is such a handsome dog. He loves to play fetch with his toy balls and then play
keep away (running at about 150 MPH). He likes his Stuffed animal toys too much as they stay around for about a
day or two before they are completely destroyed. We have begun his obedience training and trying to stop his
playful nipping/biting. We are also working on stopping him from peeing in the house on some occasions. He is a
great addition to our family!
9/10/05 - Kanobi has been adopted!
9/3/05 - Kanobi (aka: Obi Wan) is a really great puppy! He loves to play, especially with stuffed dog toys (his
FAVORITE!). He will toss them in the air & play by himself & let you throw them for him to "attack", you can see him
smiling from ear to ear when he plays this game! Funny thing is he has no clue what a ball is for yet. If I throw him
a ball, it hits him in the head & bounces away with him looking at me with that "What did you do THAT for?!" look.
LOL Kanobi also loves to play keep away with me--I stomp my feet at him or act like I am going to chase him & he
throw his front legs & head down to the ground with his butt high up in the air & his tongue hanging out! It's the
famous "play bow" move, but at 100 miles an hour! :) He sure keeps me laughing!
One thing I have found though is despite the fact he does fear my one cat who attacks him, Kanobi is not going to
be able to live with cats. Every chance he gets he chases my other two cats who don't fight back, so much that
even the most passive one is attempting to swat Kanobi from high ground when Kanobi is in his chase mode.
Though I know he does not seriously want to hurt them, he would out of sheer excitement due to his higher prey
drive. Kanobi is housetrained and doing great with his crating. I still have to round him up & direct him into his
crate, but it is less of a game and he knows that is where he has to go for now. The nice thing is he really is not a
barker in his crate either, so he would be okay for someone who had to leave him during work hours (like I do).
Kanobi will need the usual training any young, active dog needs as he does not know anything at this point. I think
with a little work & time, he will be a wonderful companion. I think he will be good with another playful, but
non-dominant dog or as an only dog. He is very intense with the other dogs and is just too much for my gang of
older and dominant dogs. Kanobi does not know to back down and thinks their growling and attitude mean they
want to play rough, which then turns into a dog fight. He acts like he may not have had too many dogs to play with
in the past as he does not understand normal dog signals yet.
Due to the holiday weekend we were not able to get him an appointment last week for his vet work. He will be
going in on Thursday and should be ready to leave for his new home next weekend. Hurry and ask for Kanobi
before he is gone. He is a funny, goofy, super cute boxer boy that is ready to bounce his way into your home &
heart!
8/29/05 - Kanobi arrived late last night thanks to the wonderful team of transport volunteers! He was a stray to the
Newark shelter in NJ and sadly no one claimed this handsome, young boy. He appears to be about a year old and
will be going in this week to be neutered and get the rest of his shots and his heartworm/lyme test. Everyone said
Kanobi was a great passenger on the transport with Nina and they both got along well. He was happy to be out of
the cars last night and met my big, bad kitty, Dude. Kanobi was actually afraid of him at first and acted like he has
never seen a cat before. Of course his puppy curiousity got the best of him and he had to get a good sniff in, when
Dude smacked him in the face a few times. At first Kanobi jumped back and cried, but then he thought "WOW,
what a funny way to play!" and started to ever so gently bat the cat on his face too! It was hilarious to watch as
Kanobi was just trying to be so easy with Dude as you could tell he thought that was how you played! LOL I had to
break up the "fun" though as my cat was not appreciating me laughing any more! :)
After a little bit, Kanobi had a drink of water and some dinner and with a shove he went into his crate to get some
much needed rest after a long day of travelling. He only complained for a few minutes, then settled down for the
night. I will work on introducing him to my dogs in the next few days, after he has some time to adjust here. More
updates soon on this wonderful boy!
