4/28/05 - Diego arrived on Monday from one of our favorite shelters. He was purchased from a breeder
then got sick and wasn't eating. His family brought him to the vet for a parvo test and x-rays which did not
show anything. He was given a medication for gastro intestinal upset, but when he still wasn't eating and
they could not afford further vet care he was brought to the shelter.
I must say I was shocked at the condition of this little pup when I saw him. He is thin as a rail, all his bones
protruding from his body. The pictures definitely do not show how skinny he really is. We immediately
took him to the vet another parvo test was done just to be safe....it was negative. We then decided to treat
him for coccidia a common puppy parasite that can be deadly if left untreated. He has been on that
medication and sub-Q fluids since Monday. Today we are seeing some improvements in his appetite and
energy level though Diego continues to have loose stool. His vomiting has subsided so hopefully he is on his
way to being healthy again.
We are hoping that his condition continues to improve. Despite everything he is the sweetest puppy. He
loves to be held and loves to be around the other dogs. As a matter of fact he won't eat unless they are in
the room. Such a silly boy. More updates coming soon.
