COSMO
UPDATE 11/18/05 - Coz is doing so great. He is so goofy, we love him so much. He just keeps us laughing all the
time. We had him running around the living room the other night chasing Steve's watch reflection. It was so funny.
He just couldn't understand where is was coming from and where it was going. Coz is still waiting for his surgery
which can't happen until he is 1 yr old. But right now he seems to be doing very well on his knee. He still plays and
runs without limping after. So glad to see that while we have to wait to get the surgery. The local family's dogs are
still trying to get used to Cozzie's size. My mom's Yorkie is still very unsure of Coz but we think she loves the
attention. Coz is sleeping on the couch right now knowing he has to go to his residency training for a week. I can't
wait to send an update after he had been through training. He needs a lot of work! He is just the sweetest dog in
the world. Thanks!
UPDATE 9/28/05 - I have an update on Coz. We went to see the surgeon and he said Coz had a partial tear of the
ACL. BUT he also said this did not occur a week ago like we thought. He said that this must have occurred before
we adopted him. The muscle in the leg was atrophied too much for this to have just happened. We are pretty
upset that the last owners said nothing of this since the cost has been and will be very expensive. Any feedback
would be great.
UPDATE 9/26/05 - Coz is so awesome. We have such a great time with him. He is a very smart boy and we are all
learning a lot about each other. It's so funny, Coz thinks he runs the neighborhood. He will prance down the street
and everytime we reach a house where he knows another dog lives, he'll stop and check out the situation before
moving on. It cracks me up. Jackie and Dan, his foster parents, gave us some great tips on the things that Coz
loves. Thank you so much for that peanut butter trick!!! We laugh every time he sprints to his crate. Also thank you
so much for taking great care of him.
Coz already has a best friend, Inga, up the street (luckily my best friend owns her). We go up there and play all the
time. Unfortunately we think Coz was trying to show off and impress Inga with his jumping skills and he had an
accident. Coz tore his ACL. We are seeing a doctor about the surgery on Wednesday. It's very heartbreaking for us
every time he is limping around and even worse when we have to carry him up the stairs. Lately he has been
putting more pressure on the leg and now wants to play BUT doctor's orders were for him to limit the activity. Not
easy with an 8 month old Boxer!!! Training is going to have to be postponed until Coz is all fixed up.
Other than that Coz has been such a great addition to our family. We get so many compliments on how beautiful
he is. We are very proud parents. Thank you so much for everything!
8/28/05 - Cosmo has been adopted!
8/22/05 - Cosmo has had another great week at his foster home. He is wondering where his new family is. He is
working very hard on his training and does pretty good on his gentle leader. He quickly forgets about it after a short
while and we get on to more interesting things during our walks. My son who is in his twenties came for a short
visit over the weekend and they got along great. My son thought he was a pretty special guy who just needs some
constant, gentle reminders of what is expected of him. By the end of the weekend, Coz thought he was pretty
special and was caught snuggling with him while watching TV. Cosmo also got some special bonding time as he
slept with our son and seemed to really think he was in heaven. He will do well in any household as long as you
make Cosmo a big part of their family life. I believe that he was probably spending alot of time in his crate with his
previous family and that is why he needs a fair, gentle obedience program now. Cosmo needs to realize that 'sorry
buddy, but nothing in life is free anymore.' We make him work for even a treat. He is doing really well with it.
Cosmo continues to be completely housetrained and is just perfect in his crate. He now races to his crate once he
sees one of his foster parents pick up a peanut butter filled marrow bone. He races to his crate and we both just
laugh. He has learned so many things and we are very proud of him. He loves to play with some of the residents
here and he loves toys. He finds toys in the backyard and brings them into the house that we haven't seen in
weeks. He just seems to come up with them. He is eating great and I heard his foster dad tell him tonight that he
has become an eating machine. He needs all the food intake that he can get as he plays very very hard. He tries to
play with our deaf white boxer girl by barking at her and he just can't figure out why she doesn't understand what he
wants. She will turn towards him after many barks and chase him a short distance and he quickly gets out of her
way. We both laugh at him because he just has no idea. He loves our 1 yr old puppy and she is his favorite
playmate. They both tire each other out. Cosmo will make a great dog with a family that can love him and train him
to be what they want him to be. It's very close to the Army motto. Please think about making him yours. He
deserves a second chance at great life that only you and your family can give him.
8/5/05 - Cosmo has done a great job this week with settling in at his foster home. He has had no accidents in the
house and is very very good in his crate. He is crated during the work day and sleeps in our bedroom at night. We
give him a peanut butter filled marrow bone when we go to work to keep him busy in his crate for a while. He is
eating great and already knows his spot for eating. He has no issues with food at all. We have also found out that
he knows paw and actually knows a few commands that he does very well. We are asking him once and waiting
out for him to give in to what we ask. This weekend we will continue our work on the gentle leader to help him with
his pulling and jumping while on a leash. It is coming for him and we are surprised how smart he really is. He just
needs someone to lay down the rules and stick to them. He loves all his foster brothers and sisters and has even
met another foster boy that just arrived yesterday. He loves to play and run so he is using up alot of his energy right
now. When this boy goes to sleep at night, we don't hear another word out of him until morning. He really likes other
dogs so a playmate for him might be a good thing as long as his new friend also liked to play alot. Coz just enjoys
life and as long as his new family would make him a big part of their lives, he would continue to be a happy boy.
We'll keep you posted on his gentle leader training. Cosmo tells me that he can't wait to have his own family.
7/31/2005 Cosmo is the newest guest here at the Boxer'In on the Lake. He is an owner surrender. He was owned
by a young couple who just had a baby and unfortunately for Cosmo, he got the boot. Coz would like to thank his
friend Diana for picking him up on such short notice. Cosmo is a fawn with white neutered male who is 7 months
old. He has natural ears and a docked tail with 4 white paws, chest and neck. He is really cute and his eyes will
just about melt you. He has met all his foster brothers and sisters with no problems and is really into playing with
our girl Peaches, who is showing him the ropes around here. Cosmo is a normal 7 month old boxer boy who
needs basic obedience training. He will sit when told and we are working on him performing this task by only
asking him once. He is smart but just needs his new family to take control. He is lacking in social etiquette which
means he needs to know what is acceptable and what is not. He has lots and lots of energy which he will slow
down once he adjusts to just being here. Right now, he is like the energizer bunny. He is eating well and will crate
very nicely. He crys for just a short while and then settles down to sleep. He loves to run in the back fenced in area.
I have even seen a big difference in him just since yesterday. We are going to put a gentle leader on him today to
help with his training. He is very smart and wants to please but he needs constant reminders of what is expected.
Obedience training will work wonderfully for him and his new family. He is a good eater and eats kibbled food
mixed with a little warm water. We will work on his bad behavior of jumping up on people and for that reason, he
would probably be more suited with a family that had children over 4. I really expect him to do well with some
constant training which would need to be continued once he is adopted. If you want a boxer boy who will only get
better with age, Cosmo is the guy for you. We'll keep you updated on his progress but get those applications in.
He won't be here long.
