UPDATE 1/2/06 - It is with great sorrow that I must report that around 10:20 this
morning Bubba left us for the bridge. His passing appeared to be
painless and he was not alone. He knew he was loved.
He had a very good day yesterday, being spoiled just a bit more than
usual.
The vet suspects a spleenic tumor that must have ruptured. He checked
with a needle and there was blood in his abdomain.
It is going to be strange to not have this "dancing" guy meet me at the
door. He had the deepest "woof" that appeared to come from the bottom
of his feet it was so deep.

UPDATE 7/11/05 - Bubba is one sweet old man! For a guy that only weighed about 50 lbs. when
he first came here, with every bone showing thru his skin, he is now one beautiful dog. He weighs
63.5 lbs., has lots of muscle tone, and is a total love pup. At first he was 'head shy', but now he
has gotten over that, except for an occasional incident. If he is corrected for something that he did
wrong, he becomes 'head shy', which leads me to believe that he has been struck about the head
at some point. Poor guy! He currently is wearing his 'lamp shade' because of a minor (we hope)
corneal ulceration. I have to attempt to keep him from irritating it. He plays very well with Sam.
Sam runs and runs, and Bubba runs with him. He is smarter than Sam in that he has decided that
he doesn't have to chase Sam, he can ambush him. And he does!! He and Sam do have some
issues. Both are 'food aggressive' so they eat on separate side of a gate. I cannot have the two of
them in the kitchen when I am cooking a meal as there is sure to be a scrap and Sam gets the best
of Bubba. Poor Bubba has more than his fair share of head marks from these scraps. But things
are getting much better. I am learning and so are they! Bubba really likes his ball. He has a 3 inch
orange latex ball and he lugs it everywhere. Sometimes he falls asleep with it in his mouth. Other
times he takes it outside and when called to come in, will get to the steps and suddenly remember
that he left it somewhere. He then goes and gets it and brings it in the house. Bubba has not been
to Formal Obedience Training. I have been doing obedience here at home. His recall is excellent,
he sits, downs, waits at the door, walks well on leash without pulling, and is better with many hand
signals rather than voice. He does snore in concert with Clara! He also snores when he is being a
'lap dog'. He loves to get into a lap and just relax and sleep. He still thinks that he needs to
exercise the cats, but gets along well with them in the house. Pepper indoctrinated him into the
family routine early and even taught him his place as many cats often do. The nose scratches
healed with no scars! I have to mention that he is a real sweet guy who is letting me put drops into
his eye with no complications! How many dogs will do that? Nails are another thing, but with help
we get it done quickly and with no problems. He has figured out that if he is carefu he can get a
foot up to his eye around the halo, but he has to be laying down to do it. We think that the eye
ulcer may have been a play accident. I have to mention that not only deas he have a good weight,
but he has very good muscle tone. I didn't think that I would ever be able to say that, because he
was so thin, tired so easily and was so frail in appearence. Now he is a TOUGH GUY with a
handsome white pelt and lovely brindle patch over his eye. Really he is just a very flashy brindle
who happens to be a cuddlebug!
2/12/05 - Bubba has been adopted!
2/8/05 - Let me introduce you to our newest guest at the Thunder and Lightening boxer retreat, his
name is Bubba and his is about 8 years old. We have had Bubba here for a little over a week, he
is an owner surrender who came in with Boomer. We decided to seperate them because they
were not getting along at the persons home who originally took them in. We have had no
problems with Bubba getting along with all the other dogs here. Bubba went to the vets last week
for his neuter and to have a couple of deformed nipples removed. The vet decided he would be
more adoptable if she took those off too, Bubba I'm sure would like to thank her for her generous
and thoughtful gesture. He did give her a few kisses, so I'm sure that is what he was saying. Over
the last week we have noticed something else about Mr. Bubba, he is apparently about 90% deaf.
He can hear a really high pitched or extremely loud noises but that is about it. I think he has
probably been deaf for a while because he has learned to watch you carefully to see what you
want him to do. I don't think this should hinder him in finding a forever home although I think a
fenced yard might be best for him. Now on to his personality, he is one of the sweetest guys we
have had here. Bubba loves to sit in your lap and cuddle, he loves, absolutely loves to be with
kids and will follow them around endlessly. Bubba is also content just to lay at your feet if you are
on the computer, reading or whatever as long as you are near. Bubba as you can see has been a
little underfed so we are working on getting some much needed weight on this guy and he is happy
to oblige. Bubba discovered the squeeky toys the other day, he loves these and I think he can
hear the squeek some because he squeeks it constantly. If you have room in your home and heart
for this slightly older gentleman, please get that application in today.
