1.  What is the main purpose or focus of doing a BRAD?
Public information, sharing the adoption process, the need for volunteers, referring to the SCBR website, post adoption supports, spay and neutering all pets and responsible pet ownership are just a few.

2.  What must I have at a BRAD?
We like to keep thing standard and minimal - SCBR Flyers, a listing of current available dogs and a donation container.

3.  What if someone asks me a question I don't know how to answer? Refer them to the website or the toll free number, most always they will e-mail someone there.

4.  Where can I have a BRAD?
We generally stick to the larger pet supply stores that DO NOT sell dogs and cats. We've also had them at parks, feed grain stores, garden centers, inside malls, grocery stores or with other shelters and rescue groups.

5.  Do I need to sell items at the BRAD?
No, we leave that up to the individual. We don't expect our volunteers to be sales people too. At times SCBR does have small items to sell, but not always.

6.  What does SCBR need for the BRAD I set up?
Once you have made contact and set up a date, send an e-mail to Julie Tracy with BRAD INFORMATION in subject line and include the following information:
DATE
CITY/STATE
TIME
STORE or PLACE
WEBSITE LINK IF AVAILABLE
YOUR E-MAIL AS CONTACT PERSON FOR BRAD

The earlier this info is sent the better!!

7.  How do I let other SCBR members know about the BRAD? The public?
Once this above information is received, it will get posted to our SCBR calendar and websites. Our calendar will generate auto reminders for a week before and three days before the actual BRAD. If set up far enough in advance the larger pet supply stores, may have the own online calendar or even newsletters  that are mailed out to the general public, in-store bulletin boards and even local TV commercials, especially around the holidays.

8.  How do I get other SCBR families to help me or come?
Make a post to our private SCBR e-group asking for volunteers to help you.

9.  What if I'm the ONLY person that shows up for the BRAD?
No big deal, it doesn't take a crowd of people to do a BRAD. Sometimes this can be counter-productive because of limited space that the store provides for you to set up in. One or two volunteers works just as well, too. Just make sure that if you bring more than one dog with you that you are able to deal with the stress of controlling multiple dogs in a situation that will be very exciting to them!!

10.  If I do get donation, where do I send them ? All donations can be mailed to this address: SECOND CHANCE BOXER RESCUE   PO BOX 323, HONEOYE, NY 14471-0323

11.  Will I need to make a display board to exhibit? No, it's not necessary, however this is where your own creativity comes to play. If you enjoy doing project like this go for it, if not, it isn't a requirement to do a BRAD.

12.  Will I need a SCBR banner to do a BRAD?
Again it's not necessary in order to have a BRAD. Many volunteers had used their own SCBR car signs to place on the table. Better yet, wear a SCBR t-shirt or sweatshirt. Or drape your SCBR Afghan over the back of a chair. From time to time, SCBR has these to sell.

13.  I will need to have a table and chair? Some stores are able to provide them for you, ask before going to the BRAD. You may need to bring them yourself. Always best to call and ask before.

14.  Do I need any other special equipment or supplies, like a table covering, digital camera, people food, dog treats, etc.? Again, we leave this up to the individual, they're not a requirement for hosting a BRAD and are considered optional.

15.  Should I bring my foster dog and/or one of my own dogs?
Meeting a real dog will always be an attraction by itself. However, not all dogs will be comfortable in the public with all those hands wanting to touch them or other strange dogs around. Take into consideration how well the dog is mannered or accustomed to lots of activity. No one wants to be greeted by a jumping dog or one that is fearful and stressed out. The public will leave with a bad impression that all boxers are like this. Well mannered dogs are encouraged if he or she can handle the public well. It's not a job for all boxers, so use your common sense.

16.  I did a BRAD, but I don't see anything else happening in my community as far as SCBR goes. Do I do another one?
We are most thankful to those who do this volunteer work, and believe it or not, it does help. Often, it may be weeks, months or even years later when someone does come to SCBR that they remember and saw us at a BRAD. So do know that this is an effective way to get involved with SCBR and help getting the word out about adoptions and even owner surrenders.

17. I've read through all of this but still have questions. Who should I contact? You can click here to email Julie Tracy with further questions.
