UPDATE 8/22/11 - Tye passed away today. He was no longer able to walk, and was
clearly suffering so I had to make the difficult choice to put him down. It was heart
wrenching. He was a wonderful, beautiful boy who will be sorely missed.

UPDATE 8/4/11 - I know it's been too long since I've updated. Tye will be 8 in
September, and was just a baby (just five months old) when I first brought him home.
In May of this year, Tye had surgery and it was determined that he had a mass cell cancer.
They thought they got it all, and the prognosis was good.
Unfortunately, the cancer has made an aggressive return, and his wonderful vet feels there
is nothing more to be done for him, but to keep him comfortable. I do not know how much
time he has left, as the cancer does seem to be invading very quickly.
Overall, I think Tye has had a pretty wonderful life. Between obedience classes (where
they almost brought out the "caution - wet floor" signs, and were willing to wager on the
size of his spit bubbles) to agility training (which he loved and excelled at, despite the
instructor thinking he was too "fat" to do well). Long walks on the beach (where my
daughter once famously screamed, "Can you stop being so CUTE? I have to pee!" after
people stopped us every few steps to admire him), and on trails. Avoiding the water like
the plague (although he will go in up to his knees and does well with baths). Tye is a true
character. I've had people, on more than one occasion, scream compliments to me as I
walked him, or he rode shot gun in the car. The classic boxer head cock, and the kidney
bean. The NEED to sit on my lap at 86lbs. "Singing" at one of the Boxer rescue picnics.
I know that I stopped being active in the group, and that I have not updated in a very long
time, but I can never express enough my gratitude for this boy that I love with all my heart
and soul. Eight years has not been nearly long enough for me to spend with him, and I used
to get scared at the thought of only having him for 10-13 years.

UPDATE 9/30/07 - Unfortunately, I have been without internet access for some time. I
just got back online, and noticed it's been almost a year since my last update. I figured I'd
do one now, while it was on my mind.
Tye just celebrated his fourth birthday. You'd think he'd just celebrated his first. He still
has an abundance of energy. He's still as gorgeous as ever. I don't think that will ever
change.
Recently, we took a ride to some trails in Nottingham, NH. The trails run alongside a lake.
Tye is not a fan of water. He'll go in up to his knees, but that's it (I've only seen him swim
once. He jumped into a pool. If a dog could have a shocked expression, he did. It was
hilarious!). So along the trails, they had a rope swing so kids could jump into the lake. Oh,
how I wished I'd brought my camera. Tye was playing one dog tug-o-war with the rope
swing. I think he thought he'd found the ultimate rope toy for dogs. I was waiting for him to
go flying off his feet, and into the water, but that didn't happen. I was in complete hysterics
watching him, though.
My mother is currently training two bloodhounds in search and rescue. She was doing
some practice drills one day, and Tye and I were there, and HE was the first to find the
'missing person' every time. Ah, bloodhounds outshone by a Boxer. Funny stuff.
He and Milo the cat are still the best of friends. He and Tigger (our other kitty) have an
amicable relationship at least. He does shamelessly torment Tigger at times, just to
entertain himself; chasing him around the house, snorting into his fur. Overall, he's still much
more of a lover than a fighter. However, he's gotten a little grouchier in his old(er) age with
some dogs. I have to choose a little more carefully before doing introductions these days. I
think he's spent too much time as an only child. He's gotten a bit cocky.
So that's that for my long winded update. I thought some of you might be curious as to
how he was doing. Thank you again, and again, for my wonderful boy.

UPDATE 10/18/06 - Tye survived to the age of three. That, in itself, is a miracle. He is
stubborn, but his listening skills have improved to the point that he will actually obey
without my having to have food in my hand. He has also managed to rid himself of the
majority of his bad habits. Yay!
His best friend in the world is our cat, Milo. They cuddle and snuggle and it's very, very
cute. Tye has a wonderful personality. I could not ask for a nicer boy.
He's still a character, and a clown. He gets lots of compliments from people who think he
is just the most handsome boy. I have to agree wholeheartedly with them. He hates the
camera, and will let me know with a string of annoyed 'woo woo woos' that he does not
want his picture taken. Unfortunately, he is so photogenic, that I take his picture anyway.
He has recently been put on a diet. He was getting a bit chunky around the middle. He's
not a big fan of this diet, and will try and snatch up any dropped crumb he can get.
All in all, he is doing well, and I love him dearly.

UPDATE 4/4/06 - I am a few months too late in sending in Tye's annual update. It's been
a crazy year. I can not believe that my boy has been with me for two years! Wow, time
does fly when you're having fun. Tye is doing great. He is absolutely loved, and adored,
and he knows it. He has turned my lab/shepard/border collie loving mother into a HUGE
fan. All of my friends
say that he is the #1 boxer. A lot more then just my tears were shed when he had to
undergo surgery this past fall.
Tye goes everywhere with me that I can bring him. He and I have an unbreakable bond.
He makes me wish that dogs could live forever. We have a new kitten at our house, and
Tye acts like a Daddy to him. For such a big, tough dog, he sure can be a love. He has
gained back the weight that he lost post surgery, and looks terrific. When he goes to Petco
for his nail clip,
he acts like a total gentleman. However, he acts like a real brat when I try to clip them at
home. So Petco it is!
Tye got skunked in our yard the other night. He barked at the skunk, and the skunk didn't
want to hear it..evidently. Fortunately, he was a safe enough distance away that he did not
stink too badly, although he did stink. A few baths with tomato juice, and other
de-skunking remedies, and he's back to smelling sweet. I hope he learned his lesson.
He has 3 obedience certificates, and an agility certificate. I have applied for a job at a local
doggie daycare. Hopefully, I'll get it. Then Tye can attend daycare for free, and the classes
will be discounted as well. He would love that. I hope for him to have his Canine Good
Citizen in the future.
Another bonus to having Tye is that I'll never have to pay for a dog walker. I have people
constantly volunteering to walk him for me. People come to my house to see the dog
almost more than they come to see me! I have friends who ask if they can stop by to visit
Tye. Sheesh. I can not, nor will I ever be able to, thank SCBR enough for my beautiful
boy.

UPDATE 9/11/05 - I can not believe that Tye is two. I adopted him on 02-15-04. He had
just turned 5 mos. old. I am amazed at how quickly the time has
gone. I have seen some fantastic improvements with his listening
over the past few months. Many of you know that I have had my share
of struggles with him, and his behavior. He is now taking an agility
class, and he's actually doing really well in it. Of course, he'll
do anything for food. Haha. He has completed 3 obedience classes
already. Obviously, those are beginning to pay off...finally. He got
some new toys for his birthday, and I sang to him..not that he
appreciated that last part much. The other day, I had to leave the
house before my daughter left for school. I asked her to put Tye in
his crate before leaving. I got home 3 and a half hours later, and
much to my surprise, Tye jumped off the couch and greeted me.
Evidently, Emily forgot to put him in his crate. The real miracle
was that there was nothing disturbed. Nothing! I am really
impressed, and he recieved extra loads of praise for that. Sorry for
this long post, but I just had to share my happy news with this
group. You've all been wonderful.

UPDATE 2/4/05 - Tye has been a wonderful, humorous, and exhausting addition to my
home. I can't believe it's been a year already! Since we went and picked him up from Judy
last year, where he rode on my lap almost the whole way home, he has gained at least
30lbs of rock hard, solid muscle, has celebrated his first birthday, and has completed basic
and advanced obedience (not that you can always tell). He is now taking another
advanced obedience class with his usual trainer, Maureen, who holds classes at the Animal
Rescue League in Bedford. She loves him because he has the best expressions, and tends
to be the class clown. I bring Tye everywhere with me (when at all possible anyway). He
is regular visitor to a friend's house, where he plays with his best pal Rummy, an American
Eskimo. He's especially intuitive and gentle toward my friend's autistic son, which I find to
be just amazing, considering he can be a bit of a twerp towards my daughter Emily. Emily,
however, has grown to love him in the way that a big sister loves her obnoxious little
brother, haha. Tye has had many visits to the Derry Dog park, as well as long hikes on
local trails here in Manchester. He's a regular at the local Petco and Pet Quarters. I
noticed that after his first birthday, he became quite vocal. Sometimes people like to have
'conversations' with him, because he talks back, and makes the best faces. He gave quite
the singing performance during the raffle at the Boxer Bash. He also has his own page on
Dogster.com, where he's gotten a lot of votes for having a great page, nevermind that he's
extremely photogenic. Tye has an amazing memory. Whenever we get close to a place that
he's been before (a friends, my Mom's, obedience)..he starts to whimper and pace in the
back of the car, like "Can't I just get out now and run to where we're going! I can't wait to
get there!!" Now I'm not saying that he's perfect (of course I think he's perfect), but he
does still enjoy snooping in the trash, using selective hearing, chewing up things that are not
dog toys, and barking randomly at people, as well as the occasional 'foot attack', but I
have faith that with time and consistency, he will be a better behaved dog. Oh, and you
can tell Nora that he has still not mastered 'sit pretty'. He practically falls over backward
when I try and teach him the way that she showed me too at the Bash, lol. It's hilarious. I
guess he doesn't consider it to be a very 'manly' position. Tye's a great dog! I love him to
pieces!! One day he and I are hoping that he can have a canine brother or sister. He loves,
loves, loves other dogs! Thanks so much for allowing me to adopt him. I can't imagine my
life without him in it.

2/15/04 - Tye Dye has been adopted!

2/9/04 Tye Dye has arrived at the Thunder and Lightening Boxer Retreat.  He is adorable,
sweet puppy.  So far we have discovered that he is good with cats, wants to play with
them so if you have a cat it will be a learning process.  He really loves the other dogs here,
although he is very vocal when he plays.  He is really taken with my kids, he is super
happy to see them every time they walk in a room.  They are older 9 and 11 years.  He is
jumpy as he is so young I'm not sure really young kids would be a good idea without some
training.  Tye Dye settled nicely in his crate for a good nights sleep and then was up and
ready to go this morning.  Keep your eye on this guy as soon as he goes to the vet and has
a little nip and tuck he will be ready for his forever home.  If you are interested in that
smushy little face get that application in now.  Watch for more updates as we get to know
him better.
