UPDATE 11/20/04 - Shelby has been with us for 6 months now and she is doing great.
She
continues to be very dog aggressive which is a problem that we are working on. She loves
her "sister" Roxy though. In fact they have developed a "mother/daughter" kind of
relationship. Shelby is always watching out for her and you usually can't find one without
the other. They love to play and run but Shelby tells her exactly what is acceptable or not.
Roxy loves to lay on the floor while Shelby gives her kisses and little nudges with her
head. They have really come a long way with each other and we couldn't be happier! We
did have a little scare just recently. We found a lump on Shelby's right hip which began
growing pretty rapidly. We had is removed and just received word from the vet a few
days ago that is was nothing to worry about. What a relief, we were heartbroken at the
thought of something happening to her. She was a champ during the recovery process.
She had about 8 or 9 stiches and a scar about 6 inches long. She really hated the lamp
shade collar but she tollerated it for us. Now she is back to her old self
and loving life again. Shelby is a very sweet and lovable girl. She is calm when meeting
new people but loves to play when the time is right. She continues to be very nervous in
new situations or when there is too much excitment but she settles in more and more as the
time passes. We just adore her and can't imagine not having her here!

UPDATE 9/21/04 -  Shelby has been with us now for about 3 months and she is truly one
of the family. There was a period of touch and go between her and our 1 year old boxer
girl Roxy but they seemed to have worked things out for the most part. Shelby is definitely
top dog around here and she is not afraid to tell Roxy who's boss! She is a very nervous
girl as well probably due to her history. She jumps and shakes at loud noises and when
things are out of the
ordinary she lets you know! She is a wonderful judge of character and knows just who to
welcome and who to watch out for. Shelby is very protective of her family and Roxy. She
has completed obedience training and did a wonderful job. The only problem we have had
is that she is quite dog agressive again probably due to her history. We continue to work
on it by taking her on a leash to the dog park and having her around other dogs in a
positive way. She seems to have made some progress and we will keep plugging away.
She is such a silly girl and we just love to watch her play. She loves to run around the yard
with Roxy and weave in and out of the trees trying to get the squirrels in the trees (with no
success thank God). She is calm and sweet when in the house and wants nothing more
than to be curled up with her family. Shelby
is very healthy and has put on 12 lbs since coming to us. She is a picky eater so we really
have had to watch her to get that weight on her. She is not at all happy about being in the
crate so we are working on getting her comfortable enough while we are gone to be able
to be out of the crate while we are at work. She tries so hard but gets very nervous we
her people are out of sight and will scratch at the door and bark like crazy. Again, without
knowing her history we just try to be as patient as possible and make her feel comfortable.
We absolutely adore her and couldn't be happier with our decision to adopt from SCBR.
We thank all that were involved in bringing her to us and Shelby thanks you too for doing
what you do for such a wonderful breed. We will keep you updated as she continues to
settle in.

UPDATE 4/27/04 - Shelby has been adopted!

4/26/04 - Shelby is really starting to settle in here. She is an absolute doll...... hence her
nickname "Dolly". Shelby has been formally introduced to my female Bulldog and they are
fine together. Not a single problem there, they even share toys. I am going to wait another
day or two to introduce her to the boxer boys. I tried last night but she was just too
nervous. She has had a rough few weeks and feel it is best to take things slowly.

She is crate trained and housebroke, not a single accident. She is eating well and is playing
with toys. She is very mellow and no trouble to have in the house at all. Even when she is
playing in the house (her favorite toy is a squishee hedgehog) she is careful not to bump
into anything or get too rough. She definitely seems to be a nicely mannered girl. Shelby
will come up to you and put her head in your lap when she wants to be pet. She is a real
people dog. She is going to make someone very happy by being their new "best friend".

4/24/04 - Shelby made her way into her SCBR today, Thanks to her many transporters.
She is a pretty little fawn girl, approx. 2 years old. She has natural ears and a docked tail.
Shelby came to us from an all breed rescue, where she had been since February. She
lived with 4 other dogs in her previous foster home (2 boxers and 2 smaller dogs). I am
told she got along with them very nicely. Unfortunately the female Boxer suddenly took a
disliking to Shelby and started picking fights.
Shelby seems a bit stressed after her long transport so I will be waiting a few days to
introduce her to my dogs. Shelby is very friendly and seems to be a pretty easy going girl.
My guess is she won't be around for long, better hurry! More updates to follow as we get
to know her better.
