UPDATE 5/9/05 - RoseMarie has adjusted very well to our family lifestyle with the
exception of having a serious problem with separation anxiety and being left in the crate
while I was at work or we were away for a couple of hours. WE have since put her on
prescription medication after several attempts of trying to solve the problem without the
meds, but she just was an absolute mess and a very sad case when we got home. The crate
was soaking wet from her panting and she was so upset. The meds are great, we leave her in
the kitchen with her brother Sir Edmond and they do just fine. Of couse she finds a little
something to get into on occasion (pens, cups, etc. -- loves that plastic!!!!). She loves to
have her cousin, Colby, the chocolate lab come over to play with her as they run and play
and she gets all tired out!!!! She loves our grandsons (8, 6 and 2 1/2) and cannot get enough
of them and gets a little rough but always wants to kiss their faces, hands, arms, etc. As for
trips -- we have taken a couple of trips to Maine to visit relatives (it is an approximately a 4
1/2 hours trip one way) and she has done very well with riding. She used to panic - shiver all
over when we tried to get her into the car but she is OK now. We think it was just a matter
of trust -- hoping we were not taking her someplace to leave her. She does not have to
worry about that. RoseMarie's health is very good but like I mentioned the separation
anxiety problem and she is also leaking once in a while and we are watching that situation
and are in contact with the vet. The obedience training definitely helped and I hope with the
better weather we can work on a little refresher course. She is quite a little spoiled girl but it
is so darn difficult not to love that wiggles and 'happy face' when one comes home. What a
love. RoseMarie has an absolute blast with the red squirrels, grey squirrels and turkeys in
our yard. She goes absolutely crazy when they are in the yard, but after about 5-6 minutes
she calms down and she is excellent and will sit by the slider and watch them. RoseMarie is
such a wonderful boxer and we are thrilled to have her in our family. She makes our day
with all her wiggles and kisses and don't know how our life would be without her. I wish I
could have four or five more. Thank you SCBR for letting her come into our home. We
hope she is as happy with us as we are with her.

UPDATE 1/22/05 - RoseMarie is adjusting quite well to her forever home here in NH.  We
have started putting her in her new crate (a new type suggested by Julie T. and thank you for
your recommendation, Julie).  RoseMarie does ok for a couple of hours and then seems to
have a panic attack.  We are still working on her anxiety and hopefully she will udnerstand
this is her forever home and she will calm down and not be so anxious.  She is also quite
skiddish, and does bark at our 2 year old grandson's quick movements.  We do watch her
very, very closely when he is around.  Just don't know her background with children enough
to feel relaxed with letting her bark and don't know if something else makes her bark. Sir
Edmond (our yellow/lab mix) is extremely tolerant, patient and excellent with her.  He shares
all his toys, chew bones and kongs with her and lets her do whatever.  He does spoil her and
he is such a good boy.

We finished obedience with her and she did very well.  She is very smart -- we are still
working on some basic commands -- we just want to keep her refresh.   She is always
admired whenever we go with her as she is a gorgeous girl.  She does not like anyone near
our car even if one of us is sitting in the car with her.  She barks very viciously.  She had a
wonderful Christmas with us and never bothered with the tree, ornaments, decorations
and/or gifts.

We are thrilled to have RoseMarie in our lives.  She makes us laugh with her silly antics, she
loves watching the birds and squirrels through our glass slider.  She is such a sweet girl, loves
to give lots and lots of kisses, always has unending boxer wiggles and just wants to be loved
constantly.

Thank you SCBR for bringing RoseMarie into our lives.  She has brought us much happiness
and are so happy to have her as part of our family.

UPDATE 10/20/04 - Hello Everyone:  We are the new parents of our sweetheart
RoseMarie (adopted 9/30/04).  She is wonderful and full of boxer wiggles and kisses and
just such a joy to have around.  We are not able to crate her anymore as she has managed
to squeeze out through the front door and side, so we have let her have three rooms in the
house where she really cannot get into too much trouble.  We are having a problem however
with her going to the bathroom every day.  I have hired a woman to come in two days a
week to let them (we also have a 6 1/2 year old yellow/golden mix) out and play with them.
But RoseMarie is still going inside the house.  Can anyone give us any hints as to how we
could break her of this?  I realize we have not had her very long and she has been through a
lot in the past 5-6 months so definitely understand her anxiety, but any helpful hints would be
wonderful.  (We have always adopted dogs but have never had this problem with any of
them for this length of time).

I truly enjoy the wonderful support for all SCBR's adoptees and are proud to be a "new
parent" to our "sweetie pie".

UPDATE 9/30/04 - RoseMarie has been adopted!

9/22/04 Well, it has been an exciting couple of days for Angel and RoseMarie in their new
foster home.  My first objective was to get a couple of extra pounds on these lean little girls,
so I switched them from eating once a day to having 3 smaller meals with some little extras in
them and they have ravenous appetites and love yogurt!  The second order of the day was
to teach them to stay out of the kitchen and they are very quick learners!  After a few rounds
of verbal commands and pointing for them to get out of the kitchen, all I would have to do is
point and they would back right up!  After leaving the kitchen unattended for a few minutes
though, I returned and started searching for some fresh garlic I had just peeled...thinking I
had lost my mind, I had the idea to smell their breath and discovered that Angel was the
culprit in the countersurfing episode!  Hard to hide garlic.
The girls love to play together and can get a little rough chasing each other around, but they
are a hoot to watch.  They love to ride in the car and are good passengers.  Everywhere I
walk this pair, people stop to say how cute they are and they love all the attention.

9/20/04 RoseMarie and Angel have been returned to rescue due to some major life changes
for their adoptive family. More to come soon on this mother-daughter pair!

4/20/04 - Rose is starting to settle in more & more.  She is showing that she craves human
attention & has glued herself to me.  Rose does appear to need to know that other dogs are
around her in order to feel confident as that is the only time I see the full personality come
out of her right now.  She will get wiggly & happy when the dogs come near her.   She is
great with the cats (well, actually she is afraid of them!-LOL) & has not bothered the birds
at all.  Rose is such a cuddly girl, she is constantly wanting lay next to me with her head on
my lap or shoulder or will tuck her head behind my arm & back to snuggle.  She is very cute
& sweet & only wants to be loved.

Rose is still skittish about loud noises & too much movement, but is getting better.  For this
reason I do not think she would like a home with little kids or lots of high activity in & out of
the house.  She goes in her crate ok with a little nudge, but she has high anxiety about being
left in there.  I had to put her in a crate in my bedroom last night as she was having a major
panic attack in the other room.  After about 15 minutes of crying, she did eventually settle
down for the night in the crate in my room.  If I had more room on my bed (too many of my
own animals there now!), she would have been 100% happier there & I think would have
just snuggled the whole night.

The ideal home for Rose would be one with another dog, cats okay too, someone home
more often (work part-time or at home or work opposite shifts) & someone who will let her
snuggle on the couch & bed at night.  If you fit this description hurry & ask for Rose Marie
as she is an awesome little girl, not to be missed! :)

4/18/04 - Rose Marie arrived tonight along with Harley & Angel thanks to Lori & the very
nice lady from the shelter that contacted us to help this trio.  This is a very sad one--their
owner died of smoke inhalation in a house fire & it was 10 days before anyone knew.  The
dogs miraculously survived.   We think Harley is the mother of Rose Marie & Angel is Rose
Marie's baby.

Rose is a really pretty dark brindle girl about 3 years old with natural ears, a docked tail.
She is just a petite little thing at 43 lbs.  Rose is the timid one of the bunch--she is petrified
right now & does not know what is happening.  I had to slowly coax her into my car & she
sat in the passenger seat & would just keep staring at me with those sad, terrified eyes.
Rose didn't want touched, but as soon as I started to drive she layed down & would put her
head on my right arm or hand that I layed near her.   It took some extra coaxing to also get
her out of the car & into the house.  The poor girl didn't know what to think of my big cat
either.  She wanted to stay as far away from him as possible & when he walked up to her to
sniff her, she about jumped out of her skin & climbed the wall.  I put Rose into her kennel
for the night to get settled in better.  She's going to need some TLC to get comfortable &
trust that things are going to be okay now.  Watch for pictures & more updates as Rose
settles in.
