UPDATE 8/24/04 - I hope you don't mind, but i can't keep this to myself!! i can't
remember the last time i was SO HAPPY and SO EXCITED!!!!! Phantom
FINALLY got his Canine Good Citizen tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have been working
SO HARD and SO LONG for it and we finally did it!!!!!!!

He took the test once before and failed because he barked at another dog. BUT
later on that week i found out why. SCBR emails were going around about the
rabies vaccine and one stated that dogs can become aggressive after innoculation.
Well, that explains why he failed! he got his rabies vacc the day of the test!

Anyway, i am so happy and so proud! we finally did it!! Thank you so much for
listening!!

UPDATE 8/1/04 - Phantom is doing excellent. I am so lucky to have ending up
with him! He is about 75 lbs now, and still has 4 months to go! Phantom completed
the waste of time, waste of money Petco basic obedience class, and is now
attending Allbreeds K9 Training to further his education. He had some problems
that the (poorly trained) petco instructor was not prepared to deal with: He is very
protective of me and doesn't know when and where to be so. He attending private
lessons for about a monthat allbreeds and was finally ready to be with other dogs
and work on his socialization skills. He has come such a long way and is now
working on his CGC. Once he gets that and completes the basic obedience class,
he will go to advanced obedience for off leash training. He is so smart, and so
willing to learn (when there is a treat to be had that is..).  I am so proud of him and i
get compliments on him all the time.
The other day, i cought him eating Lita's food, which he knows is a no-no, so i gave
stern, "LEAVE IT!" He looked up at me, and just dropped all the food that was in
his mouth back into the bowl!! It was TOO FUNNY!!

1/27/04 Just a quick update to let you know that Phantom is doing wonderful here.
He is great with all the other dogs big and small. He loves the kids and is wonderful
with everyone he meets. Phantom loves to ride in the car and thinks he is very
special when he gets to go.  Phantom loves to play, play, play. He tries to get the
old girls here to play with him but if they will not he will play by himself. He loves
the ball and will play fetch forever. He also loves to play tug. Phantom is a
wonderful dog that any family would be lucky to get. I think he would do best
where he won't be left long, kids to play with and another young dog to keep him
busy. If you are the family for Phantom let us know

1/25/04 - Phantom spent the last couple of days visiting at the Boxer Oasis to see
how he would do living with cats.  Unfortunately, with lots of hard work & not for
lack of trying on my part & the cats, Phantom just did not think he & the kitties
were meant to be friends.  Even my resident king cat of the house who is not afraid
of ANY dog except for the very rare cat-killer types, was very cautious around
Phantom & kept his distance the whole time Phantom was in the house & not
crated.  Other than that, Phantom was a great guest & loved my dogs, was
wonderful with me, loved going for rides in the car & perfect in his crate & in the
house.  So, if you are like Phantom & just don't like cats (or maybe are allergic!),
this sure is the boy for you!

12/30/03 Phantom really enjoyed his first Christmas. He had no problem getting the
idea of how to open presents. He never bothered them before Christmas morning
but when we gave him his presents he ripped them right open. He played with his
toys for a few minutes and then went in his crate and ate his bone. Now that he
knows what Christmas is all about I can not imagine how much fun he will be next
year.Today I took Phantom back to the vet to get his stiches from his nueter
removed and to check his mange, but Phantom had gotten impatient and removed
his own stiches. The mange will take a little longer to clear up. He is still missing
patches of fur so he needs to be checked in another month. On the way home we
stopped at my sisters house and Phantom played with China her one year old 90lb
mastiff. Finally Phantom has met his match. He often plays with our other foster
Macho and poor Macho gets so tired he needs a couple of days to recover after.
Phantom ran and played so much that he slept all the way home and only woke up
long enough to eat and went right back to sleep. Phantom is a wonderful young boy
who is still very much a puppy and would make a great addition to almost any
family.

12/2/03 Phantom has been here with us for about three days and I am very
impressed with how smart well behaved and sweet he is. Phantom is still very much
a puppy. One minute he is running around playing and jumping and the next minute
he is sound asleep.I took him to the vet today and it was confirmed that he has
mange. He is now on medication that will hopefully clear up the problem.Right now
he is missing alot of fur because of the mange but when it grows back he is going to
be a beautiful boy.Phantom will definatly need obedience class when he is adopted
but the basics have already been started by his former family. He is crate trained, he
sits when he is told to (atleast most of the time) he knows what down means, he
even shakes hand when there is a treat to be had. I am sure that Phantom will find a
home very soon so if you think you might be the right people for him get your
application in now.

11/30/03 Phantom has arrived at his foster home in Maine and is settling in
nicely. He has a black mask over half his face but the rest of him is all white. He has
mange and has lost a lot of hair but still looks very hansome. He needs to get
treatments for mange and that is time consuming and costly so he will not be ready
to go right off but when he is he should have no trouble finding a home.Phantom is
very sweet and likes to climb up in any available lap for a quick hug but moves on
quickly so he can continue to play. He knows a lot of commands and so far has
obeyed very well. He also shakes hands and lays down when told.Phantom has
allready figured out where the dog food is kept and opened the sealed container
today when he was ready to eat.He did not eat from the container but I got the hint
and feed him. He has only been here one day so I'm sure I will know alot more
about him for his next update but I can already tell this is one incredible dog.
