UPDATE 6/23/07 - Just wanted to give you all a quick update to let you know that
MooMoo is still with us and doing fine!! He is a big baby, and is more human than he
is a dog :) He is totally in love with us as we are with him. He had his big 4th birthday
this year. He is SUCH a good boy. He still is skittish around new people. Loves
anything to do with walking, going to the park (it's his favorite time of year), going for
a ride, eating, sleeping in bed with us. He lets us know when we've been up toooooo
late, he grabs his favorite toy (a hedgehog that grunts when he squeezes/chews it) and
heads up the stairs and stands on the bed to let us know it's time. He runs back down
to get us, once again, if we have not followed him up. He loves to watch us cook in
the kitchen, we call him Chef MooMoo, he watches so intently, as if he is learning
what to do (maybe when we are not around :) He has a clean bill of health every year
at the vets, and is a very sleek and lean 75 pounds. His legs are tall, and he holds his
weight very well. Thanks again for letting me fill you in!!!
UPDATE 5/31/05 - MooMoo continues to do WONDERFULLY!! I don't know
what I would do without him. He is a joy to have around, and is the most lovable dog
that I have ever seen, he gets along, still, great with out Older Boxer, Rocko. We also
have a new addition, another rescue, a Miniature Pinscher. This is MooMoo's
girlfriend, and they play together like kids!! So now our household is similiar to the
movie 'Homeward Bound' Our older Boxer is the older dog, of course, MooMoo is
the goofy Boxer, and our MinPin is Sassy the cat (anyone who has seen these movies,
can appreciate what I am talking about). Our lives revolve around the dogs, we don't
do anything without including them, they are truly a part of our family. Pictures
attached to an email to SCBR, they are great if anyone gets the chance to see them :)
UPDATE 12/9/04 - Moo continues to do GREAT!! Him and Rocko are inseparable,
if one isn't there, the other is wondering what the heck is going on. They are treated
like Kings, and we now know that we do what they say :) Moo loves to sleep with us
at night, and paces back and forth at 9:00 if we aren't upstairs watching TV in bed.
He snores as loud as can be. He seems like he was meant to be here.. ..... I still say
he knows exactly what we are saying when we talk about him. He is still a little
skiddish around new people, but once he gets to know them, he's fine. He's a joy!!
Him and Rocko are amazed by the Christmas Tree, and I think they know that the
stockings on the fireplace are theirs.
Will write more in a few and let you know how the winter goes, neither one like the
cold weather, but they LOVE to play in the snow!!
UPDATE 9/2/2004 - MooMoo continues to entertain us!! We really think he knows
EXACTLY what we are saying, or asking him to do. He has the routine of the day
and night downpacked, and looks forward to every bit of it. He's decided that birds
and squirrels are not easily caught, so he's decided to try moths and butterflies....
which he catches pretty good.... even though the one taking him for a walk goes along
for the ride... :) Him and Rocko are still getting along GREAT!! Moo used to be the
one stealing Rocko's food if he good get the chance, but Rocko has learned that when
he sneaks over, he heads right for his dish, which makes Moo change his mind....
They get into their daily wrestling matches, which Rocko loves at least twice a day.
When Rocko doesn't want to play, Moo will continually tease him and try to coax him
to chase him, by sneaking up on him and pouncing in front of him and then running, or
by playing leap frog with him, whether he likes it or not. He's finally learned to play
fetch, and that he's supposed to drop it for us to throw it again, and not run 110 miles
an hour, with which he knows we will still chase him. He has also decided that the
wood pile for our outside fireplace is his personal chew toy pile. Choosing a different
one each day to carry around and peel the bark off.
UPDATE 8/2/2004- Just updating to let you know MooMoo is doing GREAT!! He
finished his obedience with flying colors, and listens to us very well. Rocko and
MooMoo still get along wonderfully. Him and Rocko are still ruling the neighborhood,
and Moo now takes the lead to make sure nothing gets in Rocko's way. I don't know
what we would do without the both of them, they are definitely a wonderful part of our
family... Thanks SCBR!!
UPDATED 7/1/2004 - MooMoo is fitting in just perfectly here at his forever home.
Him and Rocko get along great!! Each one protects the other when faced with a new
challenge, or new friends. Moo "voices" his opinions strongly and seems to know
exactly what we say to him. Moo loves everyone including his "bud", our son, Corey.
Corey seems to have the most comfortable lap to lay on. Since we've had such nice
weather, we bought the boys a small pool. Our Rocko will have nothing to do with it,
except the occassional drink, but Moo has decided the pool is the place where the
balls and other toys go, since he has learned to put his entire head under water to
retrieve something. It took him 3 or 4 times to realize he needs to either blow out or
hold his breath :)
He is coming up on his 4th week of obedience training, and is the perfect student.
After the first few times, I felt bad being the one in charge, since he is so adorable, and
so cute, it was hard for me to be forcefull... but we've learned together that he needs
to listen to me to be safe, and it is working great. He looks at me with the eyes of
"what's next mom???" He has a great.... great... appetite, have to watch the weight,
he's gained 4 pounds since he's been here, the vet says he is perfect. He had a
reaction to the flea treatment, but he is on the mend. We tried Hartz flea drops, which
did not agree with him, and gave him a small rash, but we have a great vet, who lets us
know what to use and what not to use on boxers. Will let you know next month at his
2 month update of his vacations this summer!!!
UPDATED 6/6/04 - This is my first week update. This is how the ride home from
Maine went: (which was 5 1/2 hours -- MooMoo loved every bit of it :) The ride
home was great, he looked out the window, and sat on my 10 year old son's lap just
about the entire trip... When we got home, he took right to my husband and loved him,
he met quite a few neighbors that night, who were all excited to meet him and didn't
bark at any of them. As for Corey's friends and their dogs, they had a BLAST!!! His
fear issue didn't come out at all. When our other boxer, Rocko, who is 5 years old,
and Moo met, of course, Moo loved him and wanted to give him kisses. Rocko
wasn't quite sure what to make of him. Rocko growled a few times, but by the end of
the night they were wrestling on the couch..... I see what you mean by 2 boxers
sounding like 12. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing 2 boxers play, so both my
husband and I thought they were fighting, plus they were VERY loud. But by the end
of the match, the tails were wagging and they were rolling around on the floor. Moo
slept with Rocko on the couch for awhile, then came to bed with us for a few. We
ended up putting him in his crate, since he thought at 1:00 it was still play time, Rocko
couldn't figure out why this guy was still up. At 5:30, he was ready to get up, came
and laid with us for awhile, and both dogs went for their walks together, which they do
nicely. Moo lets Rocko take the lead and Rocko keeps his eye on him to make sure
he doesn't get ahead of him. They're both too funny... And Moo loves to "talk" his
mouth is justa movin', and the squeeky little puppy voice is Great!! This was a
definitely a good choice for us. You'll never guess!!!!??? I looked at Moo's
paperwork and his birthdate on the paperwork is the same as my husband's.... must
have been fate.... :) It is now a week later and it is still heaven for MooMoo and
Rocko, they have their little quirks, like, Moo wanting to play, but getting mad when
the big bad dog decides to play back. He comes running to us, and his mouth, still
moving 90 miles an hour, he's trying to let us know that he's getting rough. TOO
CUTE!!!! It was definitely a great idea to have another boxer, they get along great,
Rocko really protects Moo, when they're in the car, Moo lays on Rocko's butt ..... He
is all scheduled for Obedience Training, I think he's going to do great, we've already
taught him a few things, he catches on REALLY quick, and is eager to learn new
things.
6/1/04 - Moo-Moo has been adopted!
5/26/04- Moo-moo is doing a bit better with his fearfulness...he still is very afraid of
loud voices or noises, and is terrified of my three year old son....we have been
working on this as much as possible..it is wiser to take it slowly.... He is a darling and
would work well in a home without small children where things are fairly calm and
stable...Moo-Moo will be great with other dogs especially young ones ,as he has a
over abundance of energy, as do most boxer puppies. He and our puppy play leap
frog and tag and make believe our living room is a canine jungle gym....Up onto the
couch, over the arm, around the back, jump onto the chair, pull all the throw pillows
off and toss them about....then race around the staircase, skid to a stop just before
slamming into the front door...and fling themselves onto the floor, roll around and
make sure that this whole time you are making enough growling, barking and yipping
noises that the neighbors two miles away think you are 12 dogs instead of only two!!!
Did I mention that Moo-moo is a sweetheart and once he is used to anyone , he
becomes their shadow...he comes into my den and lays on my feet while I type, or
leans against my legs...so if I moved he would topple right over!!! Get those apps in
soon...This is a real cutie pie!!!!
05/18/04- Moo-Moo is a little sweetheart,... with adults that he knows. He is quite
afraid of children. After over a week here, he still barks at my three year old son each
and everytime he sees him. Then he runs away and cowers. He will absolutely crash
into and thru anything to avoid Jake. I've tried taking him for walks with Jake along
and he is just so terrified, dodging as far away as he can get, that I have to say
Moo-Moo should go to an adults only home. He also seems to have big fears about
meeting new adults. We are working on this issue. And taking the oportunity to
introduce him to everyone. He will growl and try to run away. He will accept new
adults after slow introductions.
He is totally potty trained, and is very well behaved in the house, except for the usual
puppy antics...Moo-Moo is adorable and has totally bonded with my husband and I.
So he would probably do quite well in an adults only home. After he is more secure he
may be more accepting of other humans. The great news is that he seems to do great
with all the other dogs here. He is a clown and will actually try to spring the puppy
from her crate when he hears her whine to come out. he goes over and bites at the
door and tries to get the latches undone...it's a riot. Then he will run to us as if to say, "
what's the matter with you people? she wants to come out and play with me! " He is
still going thru that akward puppy stage and is a major klutz when he plays...he will
barrel right over, under and thru whatever is in his way....It is so funny to see him dive
under my big boxer boy Brody and come out the other side just skidding....Good thing
Brody is good humored!
So, if you have no children,no cats, and are looking for a big akward silly puppy boy
that needs to gain confidence and have security, this may be the guy for you!!!
5/6/04- Moo-Moo must have a story behind his name...we have to say we think it's
because he is such a clown. This boy is very acrobatic and we have had to put a top
on the large kennel to keep him in. He is a gorgeous big reverse brindle boy with a half
white face, lot's of white markings, natural ears and a docked tail. He is a very playful
puppy and loves to steal all the toys away from his brother Poxy. He is also very
adept at stealing Poxy's food which may be why Poxy is much thinner than
Moo-Moo. Since being here they have been fed separately to prevent this cutie from
bullying his brother into leaving him all the good food! Moo-Moo is also far too rough
to be with small children, he doesn't know his own strength and is such a playful
guy....he does show some nervousness in new situations and with meeting new people
Moo-Moo is currently at the vet's being neutered and brought up to date on his shots.
He will have a fecal check and heartworm/lyme test and is he is deemed healthy will
be ready for adoption
