7/11/04 - Moki's been with me a week now, having been rescued 4th of July weekend from
a NJ shelter ... They had found him walking the streets, alone and afraid. He was very
under-nourished and his coat looked like dry straw. For the first few days after I picked him
up, he slept alot and ate alot. Well, he seems to have put all that behind him, and now he
sleeps little and still eats alot ... :-). His coat sparkles now, and it is a rich, almost copper
color that feels like rabbit fur. He can't wait for the morning, so he can bounce into the yard
... and I mean BOUNCE ... Moki is spring-loaded, and jumps eye-high straight up from a
stand still ... He is hilarious to watch. He is a big, beautiful puppy, kind of reminiscent of the
cartoon character, Baby Huey ... I am sure he will mature into a magnificent and dignified
adult, but right now, he is big baby, and like kids that are big for their age, we sometimes
expect too much from them ... Moki needs a family that will be committed to giving him not
just their love, but also their time, patience and understanding. He responds to attention, and
is so willing to please. He needs LOTS of exercise. If you like to take long walks, Moki will
be a great companion for you. We've walked 4 miles together, and he's actually helped me
up a few steep hills. :-) He rides great in the car, loves to go to the park and hang out with
kids and other dogs ... He looks rather ferocious, especially with his slight lower over-bite.
But you couldn't find a more loving and affectionate dog.
