UPDATED 7/4/04 - Mega is getting used to his new digs as we recently moved to
Delaware.  He is having some issues meeting new people on leash but we are working on
that (mayebe he is being protective??). We are also going to enroll in an advanced
obedience class to see if that will help.  We went to check out a new doggie day care
here and the staff said "he was awesome!" so he will be enrolled for 1/2 days in the
beginning (in
addition to his dog walkers). Also, his leg was still opening up on occasion so I took him
to an
orthopedic vet specialist.  The specialist said his previously broken leg was totally healed
and decided the best thing to do would be to remove all the hardware (plate and screws).
So we went ahead with the surgery and came through like a champ.  I had to keep him
quiet for about 6 weeks (no small feat!) but he is as good as new.
As always, Mega sends boxer wiggles and kisses to everybody at SCBR!

UPDATED 3/2/04 - Well, it's only been 2 months and all my friends and family say that
Mega is a spoiled rotten boy!  Oh well, it's very hard to resist that smushy face!  Mega
and Nellie, the cat, are finally friends.  She will walk up to him now and meow and try to
head butt him instead of hissing and running away.  It's quite nice!  He, of course, could
care less.  Our obedience classes are coming along nicely.  He is a complete angel and
clown all at the same time and everybody loves him.  He still needs more work on his
leash manners (at home) but he is getting better.  Healthwise, Mega is doing better.  I
changed his food and he doesn't have any more loose stools and he eats his breakfast and
dinner without picking at it.  I'm hoping to put a bit more weight on him so we're still
working on that.  Last month, the sore on his leg opened up again so I took him to the vet.
They took x-rays and thought that a wire from the plate in his front left leg was bothering
him so they decided that surgery would be best to see what was going on.  Dr. B. said the
wire wasn't the problem but there was a lot of scar tissue so he debrided that and cleaned
it up and put him back on antibiotics.  Mega is going in for his suture removal this
Thursday and for another checkup. Hopefully, everything will be healed and A-OK.  The
funny thing is that Mega could care less about his leg, it's Mommy that is worrying about
it!!  Well, that's all for now.  We'll check back in another month!

UPDATED 1/31/04 - Hi, Mega here!  Mom said I could do the first update since I am
always trying to type on the computer anyway!  If I do have to say so myself, I think I'm a
pretty well adjusted guy for only being here one month.  I have my own papasan chair (I
prefer the couch), tons of toys, and my own dog bed (I prefer Mommy's bed).  I'm trying
really hard to get along with Nellie, the cat, but she doesn't seem to like me too much.
Some days she will walk right by me and say "Hi", other days she is hissing and carrying
on.  Crazy cat! Mom and I go on a lot of walks together and she even bought me a 30
foot leash so I can run and play in the park near our house.  I've met a lot of new people
since I arrived here and have gotten along well with everyone.  I was nervous around
Mom's dad at first but after he gave me a treat, I was sitting in his lap getting lots of hugs.
I also get to go to Doggie Daycare.  I was a little afraid on the first day 'cus some of the
dogs growled at me.  I guess they were giving me the "new kid on the block" treatment.
Mommy didn't want to leave me there, but the lady said I would be fine (I had already
passed the interview and meeting with some of other dogs).  Well, when Mommy came to
pick me up, I was running around and having a great time!  What fun!  We're also
enrolled in an obedience class - I'm a pretty busy guy, huh?  There are so many
distractions that I kinda don't want to pay attention but I'm getting better (the liver and
steak that I get as bait helps alot!!)  All in all, I'm loving my new home so I'm staying!  Big
thanks to Julie and Lori for fostering me until I found my forever home!! Boxer kisses -
Mega

Mega's Mom here.  Mega is a joy to have!!  He is great fun and what a snuggle bunny.
He gets really excited when he meets new people and jumps up to give kisses but we are
trying to work on that (maybe obedience class will help?) Personally, I don't mind but
guests seem a little put off by that! : )  We're also trying to work on leash manners. Once
in a while he gets this urge to "go crazy" and starts barking at my shoes, biting his leash (I
tell him I don't need any help walking him, but thanks anyway) and jumping straight up
and barking in my face.  I try not to laugh because it only encourages him but sometimes I
can't help it!  On a more serious note, he's been to the vet to check on a little open wound
he had on his front left leg.  They took x-rays and thought that a wire from his past surgery
to fix his broken leg was the cause.  He was put on antibiotics to see if that would clear up
the infection.  His leg looks great now but we're going back for a follow-up next week.
Thanks again SCBR for bringing The Mega Man into my life!!

UPDATED - Mega has been adopted!

12/14/03 Mega is doing great here at the Riverview!  He is a fantastic guy, young and
energetic outside, but a couch potato inside and eager to please.  He loves attention and
cuddling, and has happily met and entranced everyone who has come to visit us.  It is fun
to watch him bound out into the snow to do his business--especially since my two think
that getting their feet wet is a great trial. He has gained a few pounds since his arrival here
and his coat is soft, smooth, and glossy.  And since there haven't been any large hunks of
meat left on the counter, he han't helped himself to any 'privately selected' menu items!
He loves going for rides, and behaves himself beautifully in the car.  All in all, this guy is a
great guest who will make the right forever home wonderfully complete.  Is it your home
he is waiting for?

12/10/03 Mega arrived at the Riverview last weekend as he was stressing out over hiss
other foster mother's busy work schedule.  Mine is a tad less busy, and he has a 'foster
skin brother' here who can also take some of the responsibility and give some human
company--which Mega loves!  So Mega is here and is acting like part of the amily.  He
learned just about instantly that Tika doesn't take anything even though she's a little bit of a
thing.  And Rockyis one up on the totem pole, too.  So MEga had no trouble fitting in and
everyone is wagging tails and giving kises even at meal time!  Mega met my son's friend
without issue.  Craig and Michael are technically teenagers but look and sound like men,
so I can't guarantee the teenager thing.  But adults--OH YEAH!!!  This boy is a
mega-gigantic love bug!  He has had some intestinal issues due to all the stress he's had
lately.  But that hasn't affected his appetite.  In fact he helped himself to half a turkey this
morning off of the counter (luckily deboned) because he thought that the rice and kibble I
served just needed a little something extra!  So now I know that the counter is not 'safe'
from him or Tika.  She helped herself to half an apple pie yesterday.  I can't even figure
how she reached it--the pie plate was still on the counter, whith muchof the shell
remaining--but every bite of freshly baked Cortlabd apples sweetened with a bit of white
sugar and cinnamon was gone.  Mega, on the other hand just helped himself to the large
ziplock bag so that he could enjoy his turkey at his convenience on the kitchen floor.  Of
course, his intestinal issues were not helped byt this large amount of turkey.  But probably
all that calming triptophan helped him sleep off his mega-meal in the crate!  He crates
easily , only moaning softly for a few moments before settling down.  And he loves it if he
has a nice big juicy marrow bone to chomp on .  Speaking of the crate--I have to run out
for a bit, so it's back into the crate for Mr. Mega Man until I return!

11/16/03 - Mega is doing great & is ready for his new home again.  We have found that
he just needs a home with no children at all, but he is great with everyone & everything
else.  Mega has mixed reactions with kids of different ages so we feel it is best he go to a
home in a quieter neighborhood with no exposure to kids.  He is wonderful with the dogs,
cats & everyone else he meets so we know Mega does have a home out there that fits
him.
Mega is great with the routine around here & does perfect in his crate when I am not
home.  He has perfected telling me when he wants something too, whether it is to go out
or if water dish is empty or it's slightly past dinner time & he thinks I've forgot him.  He
will come right up to me wherever I am sitting & gently start climbing into my lap, looking
into my eyes with his big mushy face & those big eyes. He won't go away when I tell him
I'm not ready for cuddling right now.  That's how I know he is trying to tell me something
& in his nice way he will make sure I know! :)
If you have a nice country setting home with some love to give a big mushball named
Mega, please hurry & apply now as Mega is waiting for you!

10/13/03 - Mega's owners sadly brought him back to rescue tonight.  He showed some
behavioral issues that they did not feel they were best suited to handle.  Mega is back to
be evaluated more.  Watch for additional updates soon.

10/5/03 - Mega was adopted!
9/21/03 - Mega is such a great boy!!  He LOVES to be petted & cuddled & tries to sit
on you when you pet him.  Mega met my dogs & has no issues with them.  He is definitely
dominant though & will try to challenge another dominant dog.  He loves playing with the
other dogs though & even loved meeting other dogs at the Boxer Rescue Awareness Day
(BRAD) we did today in Falmouth at the pet supply store.  He would do great in a home
with another submissive dog so Mega can be the main man of the house.  Mega loves
everyone he meets & can't get enough of the attention.  He got excited to see the kids
coming in the pet store today & just wiggled for them & wanted to give kisses.

Mega is doing well in his crate at night, but he would much rather be sleeping with me.
Too many of my own dogs & cats to do that--I would have to sleep in the crate to find
room! :)   Mega's pictures don't do him any justice at all, he is MUCH cuter in person.
He had a few people trying to sneak him out of the store today as they just fell instantly in
love with his great personality & cutest face!  How could anyone NOT love this big guy?
Mega will be out the door soon & heading to a new life, so better hurry & ask about him
soon!

9/16/03 - I picked up Mega last night.  He is a gorgeous dark fawn purebred boxer with
a black mask, docked tail, natural ears & a perfect looking face.  He just turned 2 years
old last month & lived with cats & kids of all ages-there was even a daycare in his last
home.  His owner surrendered him to us because in the last few months he was showing
some dominance issues with some of the kids when playing with him.  They said the kids
of all ages could climb on him & do just about anything to him without any issues, but they
were just worried that something may happen.  Since Mega was never neutered or taken
to obedience classes & is now at the age of an "adult" male dog, he was probably trying
to establish his place in the house as above the children.  For this reason I would say no
little kids would be best for Mega to live with, but should be fine with kids around 10
years & up.

Mega is a sweet boy to everyone he met at the vets were he was neutered & with me &
with Nora, who brought him to meet me.  He is great in the car & is crate trained too.
Mega didn't care when he saw my cats & was not bothered by all 3 dogs in the house
sniffing him in his crate.  I will try to introduce him to my dogs soon to see how he is with
them.  Mega's name says it all as he is a big boy, about 70 lbs, & is tall too.  He barely fits
in the large vari-kennel--he really needs an extra-large one.  I can already tell he is a
wonderful boy & he just needs a home where he can get some direction & training. You
had better hurry & get your applications in now as Mega is a great catch & will be gone
very soon!
