UPDATE 11/20/05 - Hello all.....I know it's been a while since we've told you how MacGyver is, but
we've just been having so much fun and loves that we haven't had much time to sit at the computer and
update.  MacGyver is doing wonderfully.  He is a little over 70 lbs. now and full of muscle!  Much better
than his condition when we first adopted him.  When we got him, he had demodex mange, and now his
coat is just so shiny and soft.  Whenever we go for walks, there is always at least one person who
comments on how beautiful he is.  To be honest, I think he is a bit spoiled!  His diet is great, we still feed
him Nutro Natural Choice High Energy food.  He gets sick every once in a while, but I think it's because
he eats too fast and constantly eats grass!  Almost every night, foster mom and dad have a bowl of ice
cream, and Mac has a frosty paw, one of those ice creams for dogs.  The cutest thing is watching him
eat one!  He is still quite good with his commands that he learned in obedience classes, but he still a
puppy, so he slips up every now and then!

Foster mom and dad went through several changes this year, and Mac didn't seemed phased by any of
it.  We purchased a new home in April, and Mac still has a huge fenced in yard to run around and play.
In fact, part of the requirements we set for ourselves when buying the home was that we had a big
enough yard for him to run and be safe and get exercise.  We knew we would want to adopt again
soon, so we wanted the space for the two to play.  We also got married in May, and are now expecting
a child in March.  Mac just adores children.  He is around an infant quite often, and it's amazing to see
how gentle he is with the baby.  He will go right up to him, sit down, and lap his face so delicately.
Every night, I will ask Mac 'where's the baby' and he'll come to me, sniff my belly and kiss it.  It's
precious.  But he knows he'll always be the baby of the house!

We have friends that have a boxer girl, and Mac actually knows her name.  We'll ask Mac if he wants
to go see Emma, and he starts wiggling and whining until he sees her. We call her his girlfriend. He plays
fantastically with other dogs.

I know it sounds strange, but we have no complaints about him whatsoever!  The only thing we wish is
that he could live forever.  We couldn't imagine life without him.

UPDATE 8/30/04 - We've had Mac for just one week, and you'd think he's been here since he was a
baby!  The moment we picked him up at his very loving foster family's home, he seemed to fit with us
perfectly.  Our two cats are still trying to adjust to him.  Mac just wants to say hello and play, but that
will take a few weeks for them to understand that.

Mac's first few days were a little tough.  He was scheduled to go to the vet's his second day here for a
check-up, but we had to take him earlier because he seemed to be having an allergic reaction to
something.  It seems he must have been stung by a bee.  During his check up, the vet tested him for
mange again because Mac was still very itchy.  He put him on another treatment of Ivermectin, which he
has to take for the next four weeks.  After we got him home and played outside, he must have been bit
from another bee, because his right eye started to swell...the poor little guy!  We called the vet, and he
told us to give him a Benadryl, and that worked within minutes!  He slept wonderfully in his room (his
crate), and has everynight since he's been here!  His itching has already subsided, and he gets
moisturizer on his dry spots everyday to help with the healing.  He also had a bad case of
conjunctivitous, so we got some eye ointment for the vet, and that cleared up within a day.  Aside from
a few expected accidents in the house, everything else is great!

Now for the good stuff!  He listens SOOO well!  He knows sit, down, stay, and come VERY well, and
he heals fantastically!  We are learning shake and roll over, but that will take time.  He still seems to be
afraid of going into the car, but once he knows he's coming back home, he isn't afraid to get into the car
again.  This is the cutie's 4th home in his 6 months of life, so no wonder he is a bit scared of cars.  He's
probably wondering if we will take him somewhere else.  We tell him all the time how much we love
him, and that this is his forever home!  He loves to give us kisses, and we even lay down with him in his
crate before he falls asleep at night!

He has so many toys, but his favorite is his baby (it's a stuffed animal of a cat that squeaks).  He carries
his baby everywhere and sleeps with it at night.  He's just a doll, and I melt everytime I look at him.  I'm
sure there will be so much more to come, as everyday there is something great to tell about him.

UPDATE 8/23/04 - Macgyver has been adopted!

8/20/04-Hi all, Macgyver here. I have
great news!! I got my second shot of Ivermectin today and I'm going to my
forever home on Monday! I got so excited when my foster mom told me that she
said I could give in my last update as a foster!! Thanks for giving me a
second chance! :)

8/10/04-I have some bad news...Mac has
Demodex mange, which means he's going to have to stay in foster care for a
few weeks to get his treatments. :(  He had his first shot of Ivermectin
this morning, but must have at least one more before he can go to his
forever home.  The good news is he's doing wonderful here and has already
learned "sit" and almost mastered "wait" as well!  He's a smart cookie and
will make a great addition to any family when he's ready! :)

8/8/04-I'd like to introduce you to our
newest foster, Macgyver. He's a 6 mo old fawn boy with a black mask, natural
ears & docked tail. He came from one of the shelters we work with and a big
thanks to Liz for springing him & holding him until he could be brought
here. He is wonderful with everyone, loves the kids & my husband. He has
also met my boys and our other foster and everyone is getting along great.
He seems to be horsebroken, no accidents so far! :) He does not know any
commands yet, but we will teach him a thing or two before he leaves on his
next journey. He's eating well, and loves to play!! He has been neutered and
is up to date on all his shots, but I'm going to bring him to the vet with
me tomorrow to check out a couple of bald spots to make sure it's not mange.
I'll let you know what happens tomorrow night! :)
