7/13/04 Jack is a real joy to have as a foster. He never causes any problems and is good
with the other dogs. We have a small mixed breed puppy staying here right now and Jack
is a gentle giant when he plays with her. He continues to do his happy dances when he
wants food, jumping and spinning around wildly. It is so funny to watch him. The only
thing wrong with Jack is that he does not have a family of his own. He would make a
great addition to any family lucky enough to adopt him. He is so eager to please and has
so much love to give. He just needs someone who will love him back. If you thing you
might be that person get your application in today so Jack doesn't need to be lonely much
longer.
6/26/04 Jack has unfortunatly been returned to foster care because he just was not fitting
into his new familly. I am thrilled to have him at my house for another visit because he was
one of my favorite fosters but he deserves to find his forever home. He is without a doubt
one very pretty boxer but don't let his dignified looks foll you he is a big clown. He does
what we call his happy dance whenever he wants something. He jumps in the air and
spins wildly around in circles. Jack is really looking for someone to love him for his goofy
personaliy and not his looks. Are you that family?
UPDATED 3/27/04 - Jack is patiently awaiting the nice weather. It was a snowy winter
which he just thought was the pits. He would much rather be on his big bed. We have two
extra large beds, but for some reason they both try to get on one rather than the other.
Sometimes, they will both squeeze on the one bed and make a good attempt at getting
comfortable...what a sight! We have been
UPDATED 2/2/04 - Jack is doing fine here....most of his bad habits are slowly
disappearing. Our newest addition is Fletch, the kitty. We did not know how Jack would
react to a kitty, but after a few swipes, Jack now knows exactly where he stands. Fletch
and Jack were actually sharing the dog bed together earlier tonight. After only 3 weeks,
Fletch shows signs of ruling the roost! Jack also is not lacking any food. As a rule, I do
not feed table scraps, but our son Wyatt feels otherwise. At nine months of age, he leans
over the highchair and puts out his hand for Jack to lick clean. There is not a speck of
food left on the floor by the time Jack is done. Very helpful for me! Until next month.....
UPDATED 12/4/03 - Jack is doing wonderfully here with our family. He is settling in
nicely and we are getting to know his personality pretty well by now. Ajna, our big
Dogue de Bordeaux girl, is slowly warming up to him with the occasional putting her butt
in Jack's face. He of course thinks this is a wonderful invitation to play, but when he
barks, he scares Ajna and she runs away. Jack has just completed his basic obedience
class with flying colors. We still believe he knew his stuff already. And as for the stairs,
he does them no problem. It is weird though. When the gate is open, he will not come
up the stairs unless you go back down to get him and then pull his collar. Its almost like
he waits for your approval before he will go up or down. But does them like a pro! One
thing Jack does that I find annoying, but he thoroughly enjoys, is dragging the baby's
diaper bag across the room and emptying it. If I happen to forget and put the bag on the
floor, then it is fair game.
Bottles, diapers, etc. etc. I have lost more than a couple bottles to this! All in all though,
Jack is a good dog. He is my snuggle buddy on the couch at night! Until next month!
UPDATED - Jack has been adopted!
9/8/03 Jack has been to the vets and had his legs evaluated and x-rayed. The vet could
not find any signs of an old injury and thinks he has a congenital defect in his knee. It
seems his knee cap is not aligned right. He also said that since Jack is not lame he does
not need surgery. Jack is now ready to go on to a new home and start his new life. The
only thing that seems to give him any problem is stairs and I am starting to think it might be
fear that keeps him off the stairs and not his leg. I tried him on the steps leading to our
deck and he was able to climb them fine. He is unwilling to try the full flight to the cellar
though.I am glad that Jack won't have to go through the pain of surgery. He should be
able to lead a very full life and do just about anything he puts his mind to.
8/22/03 Jack is doing really well. He is not enjoying the heat very much but other than
that he is just great. We see new sides to his personality every day. He is definatly food
motivated and willingly goes into his crate for a treat. I have a lot of fun when it is meal
time for Jack. The whole family comes into the kitchen to watch. Jack runs around in
circles until he is sure he is going to get fed. Then he does what we call his happy dance.
Jack is 85lbs and has injured back legs yet he manages to do spinning jumps around and
around in tight little circles while I put the food in his dish. If he thinks he is going to get
table scraps he nearly hovers off the floor he is so excited. So far I have not found that
Jack has any bad habits. He has not bothered the trash,or counter surfed,he does not
seem to be a chewer, and he loves everyone he has met.He is even good with other dogs
and I think the thing he would like most is a home with another dog to play with. Jack is
so lovable I am sure he will not have to wait long for a forever home.
8/15/03 Jack has been with us for four days and he is just starting to settle in. At first he
was scared and depressed but has finally started to feel more comfortable with us. We
could tell right away that Jack is a very sweet gentle boy who absolutely adores children,
but in the last day we have discovered that he is also very playful and has quite a bit of
energy. This came as somewhat of a surprise to us because Jack has an old injury to his
hips that was never treated. We are learning that it does not slow him down nearly as
much as we expected. I made an appointment to have Jacks hips evaluated by a
wonderful orthopedic vet on August 26th to find out if anything can be done to improve
his condition at this late date.I am very happy to say though that judging by what I have
seen so far he does have enough use of his hips and back legs that he should be able to
lead a very full life even if it is to late to make him a 100%. The only thing that seems to
slow him down are stairs. He is able to navigate three or four of them after getting a
running start.Jack is just another example of an amazingly lovable boxer who has had a
hard life and is now looking for a family with as much love to give him as he has to give
them.
8/11/03 Jack has arrived and is very sweet and loveable. He has an old injury to his hips
that was never treated. He will be going to the vet soon to have them checked. He rode
very well in the car and has been a complete gentleman during the few hours he has been
here. I will let everyone know what I find out about his hips after I take him to the vets.
8/10/03 I picked up Jack in Portsmouth, and he is a giant (85 pound) lovebug! He rode
like an angel in the backseat to my house where4 he is relaxing for a few hours before our
next leg to meet Joanna in Portland. He had no difficulty negotiating a few steps, and was
able to get into the back seat of my Volvo withpout assistance,l At the moment he is
sprawled on my kitchen floor only steps away while I write this. Everyone else is outside
as we are not going to attempt canine introductions. But his former home reports that he
was very good with her 50 pound female, and gets along with dogs and people. I can
beleive it--he is a sweetie!
