1/6/04 Holly, Holly, Holly.......she is such a bundle of energy, she keeps us on our toes!
Holly went to the vet today for a checkup. She needs to be treated for her demodex for
another 30 days, then she will be given the all clear to be spay and adopted! Holly also
got some antibiotics for an infection in her nailbed on her hind paw, it is nothing major and
will be cleared up in no time.

Holly is a wonderfully sweet, good natured, cuddly girl. She wants to be friends with all
other dogs and people she meets. She has an amazing tempermant and I have yet to see
her have a negative reaction to anyone or anything. Holly has a boundless amount of
puppy energy so I would have to say a fenced yard is a must. Holly pretty much goes
non-stop from the time we get up in the morning (7am) until we go to bed at night
(11-12pm), she might take a 45 minute power nap, but that's about it! Luckily someone is
home here most of the time so Holly's high energy has not been a problem.

Holly is still very much a puppy and we are working on showing her acceptable
behaviors. She nips for attention, when she gets excited or when I take hold of her collar.
She's not doing it to be nasty, it seems her previous family did not help her get through the
puppy mouthing/nipping stage. She is a bit of a jumper but has made a HUGE
improvement since her arrival here. We went from full body slams to love taps LOL. We
have been working on basic obedience and Holly has improved tremendously. She one
smart cookie :o)

Holly seldom bothers with things in the house. She has learned that the basket containing
dogs toys is fair game and the toy box is off limits. She is housebroke, crate trained and is
pretty good on a leash too. Holly sleeps in my room on her dog bed a night she is a very
sound sleeper and snores to prove it! Holly is going to make a great addition to her new
family.
12/2/03 - Holly went to the vet today. She weighs in at 42 pounds and the vet says she is
no more than 1 yr. old (possibly younger). As I suspected she has Demodex Mange. She
begins daily treatment on Friday. Holly was so well behaved during her skin scrapings.
She let Dr. Downey do what he needed to do without fussing at all. She had her rabies
vaccine and heartworm test as well. I will have the heartworm results in a few days. Holly
will go in for more scrapings in about a month to be sure she is rid of those nasty little
Demodex mites. The good news is that Demodex is not contagious so Holly is now out in
the general population with my 3 dogs and LOVES it!! She is curled up with Jamie as I
type this. Holly is as sweet as can be. I can hardly wait to see her when she gains a few
pounds and has a nice new healthy coat. Holly is doing well with crate training. We are
working on housebreaking and some basic obedience. She is a smart girl who is catching
on very quickly. She gives me no problems at all she is actually a great little pup. This
morning she even starting playing with toys and acting like a puppy should. Due to Holly's
treatment it looks like she will remain with me through the Holly-Days. We are happy to
have her and I promise to spoil her rotten with Christmas gifts!

11/29/03 - The Kidney Bean Cottage has a new guest........Miss Holly Berry has arrived
just in time for Christmas. Holly has come to us from one of our favorite shelters. Holly is
a pretty little brindle girl with natural ears and a docked tail. She needs to gain quite a few
pounds. She is a complete love bug although I would guess Holly has had a not so nice
life until now. She has some bad skin issues going on that we will have the vet look at
asap. Poor Holly has many spots that are totally bald, lots of scabs (some pretty deep)
and her feet are VERY red and inflamed. It hurts me just to look at them. She has already
had 2 bathes and to tell you the truth I think she feels much better now. I am not going to
do formal introductions with the other dogs until I know what is going on with her skin.
She did meet my 3 dogs briefly and was fine. She tries to play with them through the gate
as well. I think she will be fine with other dogs. As far as cats on the way out of the
shelter there was a cage filled with kittens. Holly was play bowing and wigglin' her nub.
She really wanted to play with them and seemed a bit offended when they hissed at her.
Judging by her reaction at the shelter I would venture to say she should be fine with cats. I
will keep you updated and send pictures soon.
