11/7/04 Hobbs is now back at his original foster, the Boxer'In on the lake in New York. He was having
a difficult time with all the cats in his foster home in Maine so we thought we would bring him back here
to find his new home. Hobbs came back in and acted like he had never left the building. He is eating
well and has had no accidents in the house or the crate when we are at work. He is always happy to see
us return home and gets very excited at the thought of seeing us. We are working on a few of Hobb's
weaknesses. He has a very high pray drive and doesn't like squirrels or other dogs coming in our yard.
He will go from window to window making a big deal about it. We are working on keeping Hobbs calm
and able to control himself. Hobbs will need an owner who will work with him and not let Hobbs think
he is the boss. Hobbs is the typical teenager and will go for the limit if you let him. Hobbs can be a
wonderful dog as long as he has no concerns that bother him. Greeting people in the home needs to be
done slowly. Hobbs continues to be good with his foster
brothers and sisters and seems to enjoy their companionship. Hobbs attaches himself quickly to his
family and we believe that with some training and obedience, he will become more at ease and not feel
he needs to take charge. Hobbs will need an owner who is very patient and willing to stay on top of
things so that Hobbs doesn't need to be worrying. Hobbs is very loveable and will make a wonderful
pet as he grows and matures into a beautiful boxer boy.
10/20/04 - Hey, it's me, Hobb's! I have been a very good boy at my new foster home & I am ready &
waiting for my new family to come get me. I get along great with all the other dogs here & love to play
with them whenever I can. I hope you have another playful dog at your house as I love their friendship.
Don't worry, I will still be your best friend too!
You will never guess what I found here, little furry things that go "meow!" when you step on them! They
are just too much fun-moving squeaky toys that fight back! At first I let them think they had me under
control & I did not play with them, but now I really want to play rough with them like us boxers do with
each other. Foster Mom likes to spoil the fun & keeps telling me I am not to do this. She says I have
made it so I will not be allowed any of these in my new home (DARN!). If I cannot have any of these, I
promise I will be great at scaring all the little critters out of your yard that do not belong there!
I do have perfect manners in the house & have never had an accident inside or in my crate. I go in my
crate if you show me anything to eat & throw it in (yum!). What kind of home do I want? Well, I do
not like busy places like big cities or condos/apartments where I have to share my area with lots of
others. I really would love a fenced in yard the best so I know I do not have to be on duty watching for
trouble all the time (phew, that's a very hard job & gets very tiring!). Also I get overwhelmed with
worry when kids are around now as I feel I need to make sure everything is okay (& they sure do move
fast & are hard to slow down!). If it is just you (or with a partner) & have at least one dog, I would be
SUPER happy! I love going for rides in the car & walks on a leash & I can keep up with you wherever
you want to go--I am always ready for adventure! If you do not have a lot of visitors coming in & out of
your home(so I can relax!), then what are you waiting for?! Hurry up & come take me home, you will
be happy you did!
10/4/04 - Hobbs has moved to Maine to wait for his new home. He is neutered & had all his shots
updated now & tested negative for heartworm. Turns out Hobbs has a strong protective instinct, more
then the average boxer (the breed is protective by nature, some more than others). He is on alert when
he is out in public or if there is too much activity going on in his home. He is a wonderful boy with his
family & loves the other animals (dogs & cats), but we have found he needs more of a quiet home. A
home without a lot of strangers or visitors coming & going a lot would be his ideal situation. Also,
Hobbs is not going to be your city dog or dog park/doggie daycare type dog. Though he gets along with
children, Hobbs would thrive best without the extra excitement & activity that comes along with kids &
their friends.
Hobbs loves riding in the car & going for walks. This boy bonds well with his new family & is a super
sweet boy! He loves his new family so much & needs the type of home he fits into better with his
personality type. Does your home & lifestyle fit this awesome boy? If so, ask for Hobbs!
9/05/04 Hobbs has just had a great week at his foster home. He has settled in very nicely and seems to
have gotten use to the way that we do things here at the Boxer'In. He is crated when we are at work
and is a very good boy. He goes in with just some gentle guidence and is rewarded with a peanut butter
filled marrow bone. He is right next to his buddy, Max and seems to be okay with that set up. He went
to the vet last Friday and weighs 71 pounds and was brought up to date on all his vaccinations. He will
be returning this week to have his neuter. He was very good and was fine with everyone that he met.
He needs constant reassurance that everything is alright and needs to go at it at a slow pace. All this is so
new to him but I expect him to become more confident as he grows more comfortable at his foster
home. He loves his fosters brothers and sister and can always be found laying near another dog or he
actually likes to be touching another dog when he is sleeping. He is a great eater and finishes his bowl in
record time. He has no issues with food with a human or another dog. He loves to play and run with the
other dogs. We have decreased the speed limit inside the Boxer'In. Hobbs is a very smart dog and
knows a few commands. He knows sit, stay (for a little bit) but he is
on the top of the list for the come command. You call him and he is there. He is actually better at it than
some of the residents here. Hobb's foster dad had left his cell phone on the kitchen table and it started
to ring so
he came in the house from the garage to get it and Hobbs had it all covered. He was up on two legs
chasing it around the table with his front legs. It also rang while it was on his foster dad's side and
Hobbs was right there
trying to get it. Too funny to watch. We were talking to the vet about it and she thought that Hobbs was
very smart. Hobbs gets alot of attention here and I feel that this is when he is the happiest. He needs a
family that will make him a big part of their lives. Today, we had him in a fenced area with the other
dogs and we were in another part, planting some trees and he decided that he needed to be with us. He
had no problem finding his
way by going under the fence to be with us. I believe with some patience and obedience training that he
will be a great companion to any family. We would like to see him go to a home with another dog as he
really likes the
other dogs. He plays alot and it passes alot of time for him. He gives great kisses and is always there to
get the attention that he deserves. Hobbs is a normal 1-1/2 yr old with lots of energy and he is going to
make
some lucky family a great pet. We are teaching Hobbs to be a little gentle with his actions. He uses his
front paws alot and needs to be reminded to be careful. We can't believe how much he has changed in
a week and are sure that he would be a welcome addition to any boxer family. He is beautiful.
8/29/04 Today, Hobbs started his search for a new family to love him. He had a great night last night
and slept in our bedroom on one of the many dog beds with his new friends. He has done great with his
foster brothers and sister and it seems to have given him some much needed confidence. He had a bath
today and was an angel for me. He looks and feels like a new dog tonight. Hobbs started eating late
last night when he came into the kitchen and kept looking at the countertop at his bowl that was full that
he didn't want at suppertime. Once his foster dad knew what he wanted, he polished it off in no time.
He has eaten well today with some kibbled mixed with warm water and a splash of gravy eating in the
morning and again at night. He has played with some toys, a ball and a stuffed barbell and also a pepsi 2
liter bottle. He has really come alive from the
sad boy that we picked up yesterday. He has had no accidents in the house or in his crate this evening
while we went out for a short while. An appointment will be made for Hobbs to be brought up to date
on his
vaccination and be neutered. I'm not sure if Hobbs was ever to a vet before as there is no vaccination
history except a rabie vaccination at a clinic. We will get him checked for heartworm also. We are so
happy about his
progress. He will make some family a great companion. He needs some manners and obedience but I
think he is going to do fine. Get your applications filled out for this guy, he won't last long.
Our newest guest at the Boxer'In is Hobbs. Hobbs is a 1-1/2 year old flashy brindle male with natural
ears, and
a docked tail. He is beautiful and is the old German looking type of boxer. Hobbs is an owner surrender
who lived with four children in the household. Hobbs spent his days in a pen outside and at night he slept
in his crate in the garage after the owners purchased a new house. Hobbs did live with another elderly
boxer who passed on to Rainbow bridge and they felt that Hobbs changed after he was alone. Hobbs
was very nervous and scared today but he has done really well with the big change in his lifestyle today.
He is already with all his foster brothers and sister and seems to just love the companionship. Hobbs
needs to be brought up to date on his vaccinations and be neutered. We will update Hobbs again as we
get to know him.
