UPDATED 12/10/04 - Harlow is doing well and seems to have come out of his shell since we
surrendered Britney back to rescue. We have been dealing with skin issues again and have switched to all
natural products including shampoos. He no longer eats products with corn,wheat,soy, cheese or peanut
butter. We also changed his shampoo from the traditional oatmeal bathes to a leucca-t. This has helped
tremendously. He has had cortisone and antihistamines but we are trying not to use this as a crutch. Since
skin testing cannot be done for at least 8 weeks because of the cortisone shot we will monitor him and
make decisions on whether or not to shoot him up with steroinds as we go along. I am not thrilled with
this prospect as a cure all. If it is food
allergies it is hoped the new foods will help. If its seasonal we hope the freeze will eliminate the allergin.
We have been in contact with the doggie dermatologist who recommended bringing him in after 8 weeks
with no cortisone if symptoms persist. I know Harlow was seen by the vet for skin issues before he came
to us. I have copies of his record but its not really that clear. It is not thought to be mange.
UPDATED- Harlow is a love. He went camping with us over labor day weekend and did wonderful.
Interesting we noticed that Harlow will give a protective bark at people walking by only if Will is not at
the site. Nothing aggressive just a "Hey I see you kind of Bark". He seems to have made it his job to
watch over his family if Daddy is gone. That was a little fasinating since we noticed it more at home too.
He has a sweet nature and is curious by small dogs and cats. He'll sniff at them then wiggle and dart back
if they move toward him. Its funny to watch this big loveable lug look so intimidated. Harlow is loved by
all and EVERYONE comments on how HANDSOME he is. Harlow walked in the parade at the Toy
fest with some of the other SCBR boxer babes and was a good sport even when the rains came pouring
down.
Unforunately, after consulting with our vet and a behaviorist we made a difficult decision to return our
britney to rescue. She has been attacking harlow and it seems clear that its best for her to be in a house
that does not experience too many changes and does not have another dog. She needs a low stress
environment. She will stay with us until another home is found. This means alot of crate time for these
guys since only one can be out at a time. They are trying to take it in stride but you can tell its difficult for
them since they both love to be near us and vise versa. We will try tomake the best of it for them. Neither
is enjoying this (including us) but we are commited tomaking sure both are safe and britney finds a good
home.
UPDATED – 8/13/04 Harlow is a wonderful dog. His skin and earflap are doing fine. Doc said to
keep an eye on it for a few weeks and when we brought him back in the doc was happy with its
progress. We are having serious issues with Britney sneak attacking him. She ripped open his ear in the
last attack. We are working with a Behavior specialist to see if we can determine the cause. Its very sad
at our house because right now they must be separated at all times. Both of the poor babies are
miserable. Poor Harlow is terrified of Britney. And we are beside ourselves with what to do. They were
doing great together. We love them both very much. We'll keep you updated.
UPDATED - Harlow is doing great. He and Britney worked out their differences and there have been no
problems. They play play play play play and play! Britneys anxiety has also decreased since she got a fur
brother and she is doing great. Getting Harlow is the best thing we have done for Britney and our family.
He is still having some skin issues but we will be going to the vets on tuesday, he also developed a red
lump on his ear flap. Daddy is giving him an oatmeal bath to give him some relief from itchies till the doc
can tell us what he thinks.He eats well is very active and loving. He has the best expressions and will sit
up real staight and tilt his head when he wants something. We took him to the Petfest and everyone loved
him. We love him too just like with Britney it was love at first sight. You picked another winner for us.

He knows most of his commands though and demonstrates them with much humor. His Lanky body just
slides and flops for the lay down. And he thinks if he gives you his paw it automatically gets him a treat no
matter what the command. We say SIT! Harlow gives you his paw , "Harlow SIT! he gives you the other
paw. Harlow sit. Then he sits, its very funny, but he's getting much better. I think he knows the paw thing
is cute and keeps hoping he can charm his way into a treat. Well that Harlow for now. we'll update you
next month.
5/9/04- HARLOW HAS SETTLED IN NICELY AND IS IN GENERAL POPULATION, 2 OTHER
MALES AND 2 FEMALES! HE DOESN'T SEEM TO MIND THE CAT TOO MUCH BUT IT'S
ALL PLAY WHEN HE DOES. HE LOVES TO RUN AND PLAY IN THE FENCED YARD AND
HE IS STARTING TO GET USED TO PLAYING WITH PEOPLE. HE IS VERY GENTLE! HIS
SKIN ISSUES ARE HEALING NICELY AND I BELIEVE HE IS READY FOR HIS FOREVER
HOME! HE HAS ONLY HAD 2 ACCIDENTS WHILE HERE AND THEY HAVE BEEN LATE
AT NIGHT SO HE GETS CRATED FOR BED NOW. HE IS A LOVER AND SNUGGLER WITH
LOTS OF BOXER KISSES TO GIVE! HURRY AND INQUIRE ABOUT THIS BOY HE IS
WAITING!
5/2/04- HARLOW IS THE NEWEST GUEST HERE AT THE SLEEPY-HOWL, I WENT AND
PICKED HIM UP FRIDAY FROM ANGOLA. HE IS A WHITE 4 YR OLD NEUTERED MALE
WITH A GREAT TEMPRAMENT! HE IS PUPPYLICIOUS! UNFORTUNATELY FOR HIM HE
IS DEALING WITH SOME SKIN ISSUES AND MUST BE CRATED FOR A COUPLE OF
DAYS! MISS JEWELS HAS LET HERSELF OUT TO MEET HIM WHILE HE IS OUTSIDE SO
HOPEFULLY HE IS NOT CONTAGEOUS! ONCE WE GET TO KNOW HIM BETTER WE
WILL UPDATE! KEEP YOUR EYE ON THIS ONE HE WONT BE HERE LONG!
