UPDATED 12/12/04 - Goof graduated from Obedience 101 at Vermont PAWS last night
magma cum laude! She did just great. She showed some annoyance at teen-age dogs, but hey,
who wouldn't? The big deals for me were: coming when called without hesitation, staying close by
when given a "with me"
command, and ceasing and desisting from whatever when given the "leave it command". I swear,
she'll do anything for the tiniest piece of ham .. ;-)
Her health has been fine .. just some halitosis. Have tried various things: some green ph-changing
liquid we put in her water seems to be working. Gets
along fine with all cats now .. even our middle cat, a.k.a. Psycho-Kitty, has warmed up to her. Just
a great dog .. don't know how we got along without her!!
UPDATED 8/2/04 - Goof is doing great! Vet visit went fine -- she put on a little weight, which is
good, although with the hot weather she seems to be eating less. She gets lots of exercise,
especially in the AM when I generally walk her down our dirt road. She's met the
neighbors and their dogs: she's quite protective of us at first, but once she sees we are fine with the
neighbors, then they're ok with her too! She loves going for rides: she likes to rest her chin on my
shoulder when I drive! The first time she did that I just about went off the road from surprise but
now it's a very sweet gesture. It's taken about 2 months, but now she's pals with all the cats: they
play together quite well.
UPDATED 7/1/04 - Goofus is doing great! It didn't take long for her to become part of the
family. She and our smallest cat are buds: it's fun to watch the cat wind herself in between Goof's
legs! Goof is great with them all: amazingly tolerant, pretty much leaves them alone. Goof has had
a first visit to our vet. He had us switch her to Eagle Pack dog food and try to put a little weight
on her. She's gained about 5lbs and looks wonderful: her coat is full of lustre. She has
tremendous energy, too: she can run like a deer, but always comes back promptly when called.
Obedience has not been an issue. In fact, there haven't been any issues. She is fine by herself
when we're out, travels well, doesn't pull on the leash when walked, is friendly to guests .. we love
her!!
UPDATED 5/24/04 - Goofus is doing great. She had some problems digesting the food that we
first gave her but now she seems to be doing fine with it. Our cats have not quite adjusted to her
yet but in time they will. She has gotten very attached to Jennie and that is great. She goes on 2
long walks every day and has plenty of play time out side. She is a very lovable dog and loves her
new home.
UPDATED 5/21/04 - Goofus has been adopted!!
4/29/04 Goofus is such a sweet girl. She's getting more relaxed and will let me pet my other dogs
more than she used to! She loves to squeeze in and hog all the lovin' because she just loves being
the center of attention. She would probably do really well in a big family where she would have
lots of people to play with and follow around.
She's got a TON of energy. She's not your grandma's boxer! I decided to try a little rough play
with her outside and she loved it. She was jumping around and going crazy, but it never got out of
hand. When we were in the middle of play, as soon as I would clap my hands and say "sit" she sat
right down with a big eager smile on her face! It was a lot of fun.
I took her to the pet store to see how she is around kids. There weren't any little ones around, but
a nice 8 year old girl petted and poked at her, and even was playing with loud squeaky toys in her
face, and Goof was cool with it. I could tell she was a little nervous but seemed to like it. I know
that she lived with two very young kids for at least a few months with her previous owner, but I
don't know how she was with them. I doubt she had problems with them as she is very tolerant
and obedient, but I can't say for sure.
She's great at letting me trim her nails, and look in her mouth and give her pills and anything like
that I've had to do. She was on antibiotics ofr her spay incision and the stitches will come out
soon. She's going to make some really lucky people very happy!! Are you the lucky one? She's
totally ready for her forever home where she will shower you wil love, attention and kisses!
4/15/04 - Goof wanted to write her own update this time, but she's still a little groggy from her
spay today. She also had a small mass of hyperplasia removed from her gumline. This is very
common in Boxers, and is usually benign.
Her heartworm test came back negative! She did really well at the vet. Everyone there just loves
her and is so impressed with how sweet and good she is, and how she "hugs" me when we're
there. Her stitches will come out in about 10 days, so she is just about ready for her forever home.
She will be so happy when she is settled into a family that loves her and will spoil her with
affection. She has so many kisses to give! Get your applications in for this soft, pretty gal, because
she is a real gem.
4/15/04 Goof got back from the vet this afternoon from her spay/hyperplasia removal adventure.
She did really well, but boy is she confused! She doesn't seem to know what to do with herself
right now. She gets up, looks around and forgets what she wanted to do, so she'll stand there and
stare off into space for a while. I'm trying to get her to just lay down and go to sleep but I'm sure
the minute I get up she'll want to follow me all over the place as usual. Good excuse for me to sit
around, I guess! Too bad I can't...
4/12/04 Goofus is a gorgeous brindle female with the softest coat ever! She's very loving and
enjoys giving hugs and kisses. Once she starts hugging - watch out! She'll completely take over
your lap!
She's a very friendly girl and gets along well with other dogs, but she does like to be the dominant
one. She likes to chase my other girlies away from their food dishes if I'm not looking! She's crate
trained, good on a leash and knows all the important commands, (you know, like "go for a ride")
and can be a bit rambunctious, but is very obedient. She lets me trim her nails, inspect her
mouth/teeth/ears etc. without an argument. She'll be most comfortable with an experienced dog
owner who will be very consistent with obedience issues and training. I do know she has been
around children in the past, but being a dominant gal she may view children as competition. I also
know she has lived with cats.
She has so much personality. She gets really excited when I wake up the morning and likes to
climb up on me and lay on me if I let her. Otherwise, she bounces around excitedly while waiting
for me to let the all the girlies out. Sometimes when she gets impatient with me she'll get vocal and
it's really funny! It's kind of a whine-bark-howl combo and it's just too cute. She's full of laughs
and smiles and love.
Goof had her first visit to the vet today and she's set up to be spayed on Thursday. She also has
hyperplasia in her mouth which will be removed at the same time. The vet said she has a very mild
heart murmur and, while it's nothing major, it will have to monitored throughout the years. Results
from the heartworm test are pending. She was so good at the vet's office. I was so impressed with
her, as was everyone else. She was very well behaved and let the vet do everything she needed to
do without any fuss. I was so proud!
Because she's been bounced around so much in her previous situation, she's very clingy and needs
a lot of attention. I'm sure once she's settled into her forever home for a while, she won't be quite
so insecure. Wouldn't you love to have this wondeful, fun girl greet you with kisses every morning?
