UPDATE 7/8/05 - I can't believe that Franklin has taken over the house and it's only been a year. I
guess I missed the 6 month update but I'll bring you up to speed. He has totally bonded with Belle
and he tolerates my son's Boxer, Mia (Belle's sister). However, we're not too sure about any other
dog on the planet. Sometime I think that he feels that little puffy dogs are like teething toys. Those
little guys really object and it takes all I've got to hold him back. Now other big dogs are a whole
different issue. Franklin only objects if they are in his territory. The only problem is that the entire
universe is his territory! As for people, Franklin was born to please. He loves humans. Loves them
so much, he often tries to occupy the same space at the same time. I think that violates a law of
physics but, nonetheless, he tries. Franklin is by far the best to take on walks. If he settle in for the
night, he is near impossible to move. He is dead weight and his bones seemed to have dissolved.
It's like trying to lift a 70 pound Slinky, 90% always has contact with the floor!! In any event, we
wouldn't trade him for the world. He seems to redefine the word, CHARACTER. We look
forward to many years of his antics and thank Second Chance Boxer Rescue for the opportunity to
own such a GEM!!!

UPDATED - Well here we are at the three month mark and Franklin still reigns supreme!  I’ve
been a little confused by his actions lately.  I fear that Franklin suffers from identity confusion.  His
whining has evolved into lowing like a cow.  Sometime she sounds like a coon dog.  To compound
the problem, he has taken to grazing.  He loves to go in the back yard when I am cutting the grass
and simply graze.  Not the new mown grass, mind you, for he is a connesieur and only grazes on
delicacies that are directly in the path of my tractor.  When he is finished annoying me, he saunters
over to the driveway and suns himself for an hour or two while poor Belle runs frantically in circles
looking for a runnig mate.  But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, not Franklin, although he may
occasionally lift an eyelid to see what all the commotion is about.  He loves sunning himself so much
we are beginning to think that the mysterious bill that we received from the Buffalo Beach House for
surfing trunks and sunglasses has something to do with Franklin!  Naw, couldn’t be.
Nevertheless, to say that Franklin is well settled in would be an understatement. Have to go now
and look for the sun lotion. F-R-A-N-K-L-I-N ?

UPDATE 8/1/04 - It’s hard to believe that a month has passed since Franklin had arrived. The
way he acts now, it’s as if he had always been here! His leg is mending very nicely and he only
favors it if he is looking for some sympathy. Franklin and Belle are the best of friends and they
continue to taunt and tease each other all day long. Belle steals his toys and she leads him
throughout the house just far enough that he can’t catch her when he is in hot pursuit. He seeks
revenge outside when they chase each other and he is constantly nipping at her heals. Sometimes
they box and it is reminiscent of an Ali/Frazier bout. Then they collapse from exhaustion curled up
next to each other. Alas, the toy aggression has been replaced by some seriously funny antics. He
still has my son’s boxer, Mia, terrified but I think a couple of sleepovers will cure that.
Seriously, Franklin has gone to career counseling and he has chosen to be a 70 pound lap dog. Heâ
€™s even worked out a routine and it usually goes like this: head on lap, then the paw, then two
and the final maneuver is the plop the whole bod on the lap and may the body parts fall where they
may. It sort of looks like a wounded water buffalo trying to seat itself in a Volkswagen. Needless to
say, he is a joy to have and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have him. Franklin was
wonderful during obedience training and passed at the top of his class of one. The fence training
also went very well and he is starting to recognize the boundaries of his kingdom. The only thing left
seems to be those ballet lessons!!!!

UPDATED 7/7/04 - A week has passed and it appears that Franklin has adopted us.  He gets
along very well with Belle, our petite female Boxer, although he has some issues with my son’s
Boxer, Mia.  Nevertheless, he shares everything except his toys; but we’re working on that.
He met our vet, who gave him a clean bill of health and his shot for heartworm.  We are building up
the muscles in that broken leg with daily long walks.  Franklin is an absolute pleasure to take on
walks.  He is so calm and loves to meet people.  His little nubby wags so hard we’re certain
that he’s going to wear it out!  He is a definite people dog and really just can’t get too
close to satisfy him. He is thriving on the attention and can’t wait to tear up the back yard with
Belle.  I guess Patience really isn’t in a Boxer’s vocabulary.  He gets trained to the
underground fence on Thursday and a Personal Obedience Trainer on Sunday . What a week for
Franklin!  I’ll let you know how he makes out.

UPDATED 7/1/04 - Franklin has been adopted!

5/18/04 - Franklin continues to be a great Boxer Boy. He is great in the crate and 100%
housebroke. I cannot believe there has not been a single accident or any marking seeing he has not
yet been neutered. He is very good about staying in the family room with a gate across. The only
time he tries to get out is when we have a visitor. Once they go pet him he settles down. I guess I
can't blame him for being a little irked that he's not able to greet people at the door like the other
dogs.

Franklin spends most of the day out of his crate since he is great about resting on the dog bed or
sunning himself under the sky lights. I watched my 4 year old niece 2 days this week and Franklin
loved her. He continues to do wonderfully with my 8 year old daughter and 21 month old son as
well. Frankie is an all around great dog. He is fine with all 3 of my dogs (1 female and 2 males)
although he is kept separate most of the time to ensure he does not do any damage to his leg I do
take all 4 dogs out at the same time. Franklin is on a leash to ensure he doesn't try to play, but I
have had no problems at all. He enjoys sharing a dog bed with Maisey (She's a old, lazy English
Bulldog who really doesn't pose much risk to him) and at other times he sleeps on one side of the
gate with my males on the other. I would have no reservations at this point adopting him to a home
with other dogs. I think he will love it!

Franklin is scheduled for x-rays, pin removal and his neuter on June 16th. Shortly there after he will
be ready for his forever home.
