7/14/04 Boo wants to say HI! He is patiently waiting for a wonderful
home of his own. Boo gets around just fine, he is a little hunched up
looking, but it doesnt slow him down at all. Boo is FABULOUS with
children and babies! He is calm and he just lights up when he sees them.
He is afraid of new adults, but usually warms up after a few minutes if
the people are calm and patient. Boo would do wonderfully with a
retired couple with lots of grandkids that visit, especially if that home
also had another boxer or other dog for company. He does need to be
with someone nearly all the time, but I can leave him for an hour or two
with my crew.  Boo like to sleep with his cute mushy mug right up
against me, but he is good if I ask him to get down too. He is a
wonderful dog, I hope everyone looking doesnt pass by him just
because of his funky legs.

6/11/04   It's been several weeks, but we finally got a chance to consult
with our orthopedist about Boo's dislocated knees. He said, yes,
surgery was possible, but not likely to truly improve them. He said his
ego was not so big that he would put a dog through the trauma of
surgery and all that pain for at best, minor improvement, and the a very
strong risk that surgery could make everything much worse. As he is
one of the best orthopedist in the northeast, we are going to follow his
advice. In fact, he even asked that we make sure that the family who
adopts Boo not mess woith his knees because there ARE vets out there
who might try to attept it, and he really feels it isn't in Boo's best
interests.
His only prediction at this time is that Boo may need arthritis meds
down the road, but then, so don't a lot of dogs. The legs are pretty
funky looking, but they do not cause him pain. He can do stairs, and
run, and do normal stuff, but he does get tired if he does too much.
Everyone who meets Boo asks about his legs, it's a chance to talk to
people about pitfalls of poor breeding practices everytime!
Boo is happily oblivious to all this and is doing just great. He's put on a
few pounds and some muscle tone. He is not in continual pain as a few
dogs I've fostered with this same problem, even if he does get very tired
at the end of the day. The vet suggests we find a quiet home for Boo,
and limit his activity in order to save those legs for as long as possible.
Boo is shy of some strangers, but he loves kids, other dogs and cats
are fine too. He has been coming to work with me everyday, and though
he prefers it to being left home, he really isnt crazy about the people
coming in and out all day. He hides and is unsure of himslef, even with
my old boy here too. Once he knows someone, he is absolutely fine and
loving. He likes to cuddle and come up on the bed every morning. He
does not care about getting on the couch. He doesnt like being left home
for any length of time, but is usually fine if we go out to dinner, or if just
left for a hour or two with the other dogs. He likes to go for rides.
My idea of the perfect home for Boo is a retired couple with lots of
grandchildren, and with an older more assured dog to "babysit" him and
lend him confidence  (and isnt keen rough play).
He is such a love, the family who adopts Boo will be very lucky!

5/17/04 Boo had his visit to the orthopedist today.  I have not yet met
with the vet, but from what the tech relayed, there  is a chance that
Boo's knees/leg problems can be helped! Boo continues to be a very
sweet boy. More to come!

5/9/04 Hi everyone from the Last Resort. Boo was moved here
yesterday so we can get him to the orthopedist this week.
As you can see from the photos, Boo's hind legs are very
deformed...very similar to Forrest's if you follow the dogs' pages. I am
guessing that he has two dislocated knees, something he would have
been born with. His body is growing in a way to conpensate for the
problem, but he is in obvious pain and discomnfort at best. We will have
to wait to see what Dr. Gauger thinks.
Personality-wise, Boo is a real sweetheart. He is great with the other
dogs and the cats. He doesn't like being left home and isn't really crate
trained, but he is very calm, like the other dogs I've had with the same
problem. More to come!

5/5/04 - Boo arrived in Maine on Sunday night thanks to all his
transporters & Mindy who watched him until he could get into rescue.
Boo is a 19 month old fawn boy with black mask, natural ears &
docked tail.  He has the CUTEST squishy-face!   Poor Boo has a
problem though with his knees that will need to be checked out by our
orthopedic surgeon.  Boo walks around all hunched up, with his knees
bent all the time.  He is very sweet & loves other dogs & people & even
great with my cats.  He is learning about crating at my house this week,
but he is suppose to be a good boy uncrated too.   Boo will be moving
to his real foster home this weekend & will see the doctor soon after to
find out what we can do for him.  Watch for pictures & more updates
soon.
