TRIXIE

8/13/2003 It has been decided that due to Trixie's questionable health that she will stay in
the care of her foster family.

8/9/03 Poor Trixie hasn't been feeling to well lately. She stopped eating and was vomitting
frequently. She seems to be on the mend a little. Trixie loves everyone and everything. She
is so easy going. All she wants to do is please. She is great with all the dogs here, the kids,
the bird etc. Trixie will do anything for a treat too.
Trixie is housebroken and cratetrained, she runs with the rest of the gang and always comes
when called. Trixie was hoping to have a home of her own for the rest of her time. It is not
looking good. We all love her here and she is being well cared for but it is still not the same.

6/13/03 Trixie is going on a year in rescue. Doesn't seem quite far that her forever home is
not out there. This is one wonderful dog. We love her here and she is just part of the gang
now. She has all the priviledges of the other residents. Trixie just deserves someone who
can give her more time and attention. Someone that can make her golden years special,
with so many dogs here we just can't do it. She is wonderful with all dogs, loves people and
attaches quickly to the one who cares for her. She is completely cratetrained even though
she doesn' t need to be. Her favorite part of the day is bringing the kids to school, she loves
to go for a ride and loves the quiet house when we get home. Won't you open your home
and heart for this special girl. She will love you and keep you very good company.

UPDATE - 01/09/03 Trixie has been with us for a week and is doing great. She has been
introduced to all 5 dogs and is fine with them. She would rather be with me but certainly
never starts anything with them. Trixie has had no accidents in the house, is fully crate
trained and LOVES to ride in the car. Trixie gets along great with the kids and even let my
3 yr old nephew walk her all over the house holding her leash. She seems to really like the
kids and is getting use to all the confusion. She is not bothered at all by all the workers that
are around. Trixie seems to get along with everyone and everything. She can get nervous
around to much activity and didn't care to much for my daughters balloons tonight. All and
all she is one great girl who has been in rescue to long. She so deserves a place of her own.
She would be wonderful for someone who is looking for a constant companion. You would
not be dissappointed if you made her part of your family.

12/21/02 - Unfortunately after only a couple of days Trixie's new family did not feel it was
working out & decided to return her. They said she does not have a mean bone in her body
but since she only bonded with the Mother & did not bond right away with the teenagers in
the house, they decided to give her back.

We know Trixie's forever home is out there & like most dogs that have had a rough past,
she just needs some time to settle in & adjust. Don't miss out on this great girl who is just
looking for someone to love her! Watch for updates soon from her foster Mom.

12/12/02 - Trixie has been adopted!!!

12/08/02 - Trixie is pending adoption.

9/26/02 - :Oops, the month of August flew by without an update! Busy summer but things
have started to slow down now. Trixie went to the beauty parlor to have a manicure this
morning. Her nails were/are so long and she was only letting me take the tips off before she
would get squirmy,so it was time to call in the professionals.T he quick(sp?) is so long that
eventually her nails will probably need to be quicked so that it will start to recede, but in the
meantime we will walk her on lots of pavement! She was very sweet with the staff, but was
happy to leave. Trixie accidentally put on a few pounds in the last couple of weeks,so we
will have to help her get back down to her svelt 50 lbs. hair has grown in alot on her back.
You can probably see from her pictures the naked little squares, but they look alot different
now. Trixie readily sits, and downs even if I don't have a cookie for her. She is such a
different girl from when she first came into rescue. Trixie makes a great foot warmer as she
always likes to touch her people. With the chilly nights that are coming maybe someone out
there would like a Trixie foot warmer of their own?

UPDATE 7/28/02 - Trixie's thyroid test came back normal. Normal range is 1.3-2.9,she
was a 1.9. The vet said if in 6 weeks there still isn't much hair growth to maybe start her on
thyroid supplements to get her up to the higher end of the normal range. Other than that
Trixie is doing great. She's mellowed out about the new foster dog being here. She is
cuddly as ever. She does seem to be extremely interested when people food is being
prepared,I suspect she has sampled some here and there! She loves to put her front paws
up in my lap and be hugged. I have been trimming her toenails back a little each week. She
is very good but gets a little fidgety. They are so long and I don't want to qwik them. She
has learned sit and down without me having to help her into the position. She gets lots of
treats and praise, though I'm weaning her from relying on the treats. She is so smart and
learns really quick. What a wonderful mature dog she is. House broken, leash trained, and
some obedience. What more could you ask for?

UPDATE 7/23/02 - Trixie went to the vets this morning for her last heartworm treatment.
I'd be lying if I said she wasn't stressed but she took it all well. The vet wanted to run a
thyroid test on her since her hair wasn't growing back at the injection site on her back. After
2 months she barely had any peach fuzz growing. I'll update you when we hear back from
the vet.Other than that Trixie is a love! There is a new guest here to be fostered and Trixie
isn't crazy about this new addition. She has been curling her lip and a little snappy but no
growling. At the vet this morning she was the same way with the other dogs in the office.
She seems to be just scared of dogs. She tries to keep her distance from them and curls her
lip if they come into her "safety zone". She tries to crawl into my lap and be cuddled to get
away. I think Trixie would prefer a home with no dogs. Until next time...

UPDATE 7/15/02 - Trixie is doing great. We have been going for short walks in the
evening and she walks really well on a leash. I set up an ex-pen out back for her so now
she can be in that while I am outside with my dogs. She seems fine with the cats. She
accidentally met one of them the other night when I was letting her out. I make sure all of
my animals are out of the room before she comes out, but one kitty managed stay in. Out
came Trixie, she looked at the cat and kept on heading outside. Trixie is getting to be alot
more energetic now that she has settled in. She loves to run in the back yard. She is a very
good girl who wants more than anything to please. She loves to follow me around. If she
can't find me she runs around looking for me. She doesn't let me out of her sight! If you are
looking for a little shadow to follow you around, won't you consider Trixie?

UPDATE 6/21/02 - Trixie has got the "ok" to start going for short walks now.We
desperately need to start getting her out and seeing some new people. It's so darn hot today
I don't think we'll make it out. Trixie just wants to lie around on days like this, can you blame
her?She is still really shy around men, although she loves her foster dad now! She was not
thrilled however when my brother stopped in for a visit the other day. She barked at him
from behind my legs and ran into her crate. Hopefully now that she can start going for walks
she can meet some people and see that they're not so bad! She eats really well, 1 1/2 cups
twice a day. And loves cookies. She is really gentle around food. Teaching her sit is going
well, but sometimes she likes to pretend she doesn't remember what we practiced the day
before. "Come" she generally performs flawlessly, even though it's just in our back yard.S he
is not crazy about lying down so I don't push it. She's still getting to know us and probably
doesn't want to put herself in a submissive position. Well,it's time to go fill up the kiddy
pool(or,the giant water bowl as the dogs see it). We'll let you know if she likes water!

UPDATE 6/9/02 - It's been awhile since our last update and Trixie has come around sooo
much! She is like my little shadow. She follows me all around the house and our yard. She
never lets me out of her sight. If I go inside the house for a minute she will run up the steps
and wait at the door for me. She doesn't seem to know much obedience at all. We've been
working on sit. I tried to lure her into a sit with a treat, but she gets nervous if you raise your
hand. I give her a little push on her rump and she easily sits now. I haven't introduced her to
any of the dogs yet. They go up to her crate and Trixie doesn't growl, she doesn't get
excited either but I think she will be fine with them. Same reaction with the cats. She just
sits there, no growling no chasing. She has been eating fine and now goes in to her crate
without me having to lure her in there. She gets a cookie once she's inside. It's finally nice
and warm here in Maine so Trixie has been rolling around in the grass on sunny days. I'm
going to set up an ex-pen outside so she can be outside when I'm out with my dogs. Trixie
is such a quiet, loveable little girl. We're happy to have her stay with us but she would love
to have a home where she could get all of the attention she wants!

UPDATE 5/30/02 - Trixie has decided her foster dad isn't so bad. He gives her cookies
and plenty of space and she's even wagging her nub for him. Doesn't want to get too cozy
with him yet, but almost. She's definitely a Mamas girl for now! I sit on the floor with her
and we have a doggy picnic. Cheese and liver treats are definite favorites. I even found that
special itchy spot that makes that back leg start thumping! She even likes to give gentle
kisses under my chin. Makes me feel pretty special! She wastes now time going to the
bathroom outside and then she tries to run up the steps to go back inside. She doesn't
whine at all when I leave the house by myself but if I bring my boxer with me(which is most
of the time)she starts to whine a little. She stops the second I'm out the door though. She
has met the kitties while she is in her crate, she sort of started shaking when they got near
her. I think she's a little scared of them. She's taking all of this crate time very well, better
than I am. I hate leaving her in there, but she needs to stay quiet for a couple more weeks.
Trixie is one sweet little girl!

UPDATE 5/28/02 - Trixie arrived today at the Boxer Klub Haus. She has finished her
heartworm treatment and now needs a quiet place to rest for a few weeks. She rode
wonderfully in the car on the way home. She looked out the back window the whole time.
She went to the bathroom right away outside when we got home. I brought her over to her
crate and she backed up a little so out came the cheese. She is so gentle taking treats from
me. A short trail of cheese got her right into her crate. Trixie seems a little fearful of men.
When her foster Dad came home for lunch she started shaking when she saw him. He
crouched down and tried to make friends with some treats and she didn't really want
anything to do with him. She did let out the quietest little growl,if I can call it that, sounded
more like a cat purring. She is probably pretty overwhelmed right now so we're just letting
her have lots of quiet time and rest. Pictures to come soon. She is a little cutie!

5/20/02 - Well I got a call Saturday from a local shelter seems they had an older female
boxer that was heartworm positive. They gave me 24 hours to come get her or they were
going to put her down. I rushed over yesterday and arrived as they were locking the door. I
was told I could have a couple of minutes to decided if I wanted her. They took me out
back to the holding area and there she was shaking and shivering in the back of the cage. It
took a few minutes to convince her that she wanted to come out. In the 10 days at the
shelter she had never been handled. So sad. We brought her out to the waiting area where
it was quieter and proceeded to pick 4 ticks off her. She was very sweet but scared. Of
course I couldn't leave her. The shelter was very surprised that I was willing to take her on.
We hooked on a leash and out to the car we went. She jumped right in and seemed very
happy to get far away from there.
Trixie is a fawn female, black mask, she is cropped and docked. Her nose is a little longer
but has the sweetest face ever. When we got home she went to the bathroom, came in and
sniffed around a little. She seemed very leary of all of us. We put her in the crate to have
some down time. She needed a good coaxing to go in but settled right down. After a
couple hours I brought her out and gave her some cheese and hotdogs boy did she like
that. I then picked another tick off the poor girl. She seems to be a little more trusting every
minute. Trixie settled down nicely in the crate and had a great nights sleep. This morning she
went right out, did her thing and up the stairs she was. She had no intention of being left
outside. Her hair is a little longer, so I really feel she spent a lot of time outside. Now she is
settled down by my feet at the computer. She did eat a good breakfast today and is off to
see Dr. Matt in the am, to start her treatment. Trixie will be moving to another foster home
after that as 7 dogs here is to many. All and all she is one sweet girl who truely needed a
second chance. Stay tuned for her updates.
