09/21/03-Hi to everyone following Teddy. Teddy is doing pretty well. Last
weekend we watched Sheba and Simba, former rescues loving life in their forever
home, for a friend of ours. Teddy was very good and got along well with them.
Introductions went well. There was the uncomfortable first meeting with raised hair
from the head to the rear, but after a few minutes everybody was happy. The house
was pretty full with five boxers running about. Teddy was able to get some great
socializing in and everybody played a lot. Teddy met with our friend, someone he
has not met before, very well. He was a little apprehensive, but he did not display
any aggression at all. Last night we went for a two-hour walk. Robin walked our
little girl CeCe and I walked our boy JoJo and Teddy on a splitter. Teddy was very
good and walked very well as usual. Teddy was not bothered by anyone that we
saw while walking. He did get excited like any dog does when he saw other animals.
We took a walk through the woods we saw squirrels, deer, and turkeys. JoJo was
more interested in going after them to investigate then Teddy was. We also walked
by some homes that had dogs out in their yards or on porches. Teddy was very
good about walking to the other side of the road with me and did not get worked up
by these dogs barking at him. Teddy was bothered by only one dog, a small
Pomeranian that was on a Tie out and ran out towards him. That bothered JoJo and
him, but I gave them a yank and they went to the other side of the road with me and
continued walking. We also came across several children while we were on Main
Street that wer riding their bikes. They saw us with the dogs and rode over to see
the dogs. By now it close to 7:30pm and it was starting to get dark. I told Teddy to
sit and I held him close to me. The children came close to the dogs and I told them
that Teddy was a rescue and that he was nervous about anybody approaching him
while he was on the leash. The children respected this and kept a distance of a foot
from him while they praised CeCe and JoJo. Teddy relaxed after about five minutes
and one of the young ladies was able to stand next to him and stroke his back. This
a wonderful improvement for him. I've found if I keep physical contact with him and
talk with him it is better for him when someone approaches him on leash. I reassure
him and watch him for indicators of uneasiness. Teddy will let out a very quiet growl
and get an almost distant look in his eyes prior to getting ugly. When I tell him no
bad he stops and everything is fine. I've also found if I give him the down command
and he is laying down that it is better for him. Well, I guess this is probably more
than long enough for an update. Stay tuned for more.
09/09/03-Hi all, Teddy is doing very well here at our home. He is quite the cuddler
when he wants to be. Teddy will let you know when he is feeling ignored. He will
walk around and whimper. He does it just loud enough to be heard, but not loud
enough to be annoying. Teddy has also taken to vocalizing when he wants to go out.
Again this is not annoying and it does not happen much, but if he needs to go out
he'll let us know. We've been letting Teddy sleep outside of the crate lately and he
does well. We do not let him in bed with us and he will stay off if we tell him no but,
it has to be a firm no. We have a dog bed at the end of the bed and that is where he
settles in for the night. Teddy sleeps through the night and wakes around 7:00am.
Teddy will wander around and do his whimpering until someone gets up with him.
Teddy is a wonderful dog. We've had no problems with him here. Teddy has two
bad habits. He will drink from the toilet if the lid is up and he will counter surf. Well,
I guess it is three he makes a mess when he eats. Half the food goes into his mouth
and half ends up on the floor. Teddy is just waiting for that special person/family to
come and sweep him away.
09/02/03-Hello, I've been allowed to get on the computer today and thought I would
let you all know what I've been up to. I've been doing really well here at the Retreat,
but I would love to get to my forever home. My foster parents tell me that I am a
very good boy. I spend the day playing with JoJo and CeCe, eating, and sleeping. I
love to go for car rides and they tell me that I ride well. I do like to go for walks and
I walk very well on a leash. I do not like it when people approach me and get to
close however. It still makes me nervous. They tell me that I have been getting
better. I like to play ball in the back yard when I can. Last time we played JoJo,
CeCe, and myself could not share very well and got into a scuffle over the ball. That
was the end of our play and we had to go inside. My foster parents went away for
the weekend and I went to the kennel with JoJo and CeCe. The nice lady at the
kennel told my foster parents that I was a very good boy and gave her no problems
at all. Today we all came back home. Boy, it's nice to be home. Nothing like being
able to meander around the house and go outside when ever you feel like it.
08/24/03-Hi, all it's been awhile since Teddy had an update so I figure I'd send one
out. Teddy is doing very well here at the Retreat. He gets along well with both of
my dogs. We don't have children here so I can't comment much on that aspect. My
friends son, C, who is 6 stayed overnight with us on Friday and Teddy was fine with
him. C loves our dogs and was playing with them, actually it was more of a wrestling
match. C was able to pin CeCe, but JoJo was to strong form him. JoJo
overpowered C and pinned him then took advantage of him and licked him until he
begged for mercy. Teddy watched all of this go on and was not to sure about
joining. He did get his licks in however when C had his hands full with JoJo and
CeCe. Robin and I feel however that Teddy should probably be in a home without
children. Teddy is a protective type boxer and doesn't care for anyone intruding into
his personal space unannounced. Teddy does not want anyone to get close to him
when he is on a leash or tie out. Teddy will growl, get heckles, and become
defensive when this happens. Teddy does not like it if someone gets to close to the
handler either. This may be correctable with extensive training. Teddy listens very
well to commands and is very smart. We have not had this happen while he is in the
house. Our place has a lot of in and out traffic that does not knock prior to entering.
Teddy has not had a problem with this. Even those he does not know or those who
do not visit often does not bother him. We have a fenced in back yard that is the
dogs' playground. Teddy becomes defensive if the fence is approached even by
someone he knows. Once his name is called and he recognizes who it is he becomes
his loving self. Teddy will bark in the house if he hears something outside. He will
also bark when he wants attention or out of his crate. Teddy is 100% house trained.
He has not had an accident since he's been with us. He is a love bug and likes to put
his paws in your lap and lean on you while you pet him. He has no problems with the
crate. Of course a treat is his preferred way of being led to the crate. Teddy sleeps
in the crate at night and is usually up and ready to go out around 7:00am. Teddy is a
wonderful guy and would do well in an adult home, quiet neighborhood, and loving
environment.
08/11/03-Hello, My name is Teddy and I would like to tell you all a little about
myself and what is happeneing with me. I'm about 2.5 years old and that is an
estimate based on my size and teeth. I've been through this program before and I am
sad to say that I am back again. My last home told my foster parents that I had
become to forward with people. I love attention and play. My. foster daddy has
told me that I was not properly taught as a puppy how to play with a soft mouth, and
he tells me that I am a little rough. I've been at his home for 9 days now and I must
say it is great!!!. My foster brother JoJo on the other hand did not feel that it was to
great for me to be here. The first three days we spent seperated from each other in
different rooms. I don't know what his problem was, but he wanted to beat on me
every chance he could. Mid week last week he opened up to me finally, and now
we are good freinds. We spent this morning napping on the loveseat. My foster
sister CeCe was very happy to see me. She opened up to me the first day and has
made things easier for me. She loves to play chase with me in the back yard. My
last home had one of those underground fence sytems and I did not care for it. I
prefer a fenced yard with barriers that I can easily identify. I do have a few bad
habbits though. I'm a counter surfer and like that cool water that is in that oversized
bowl. My foster parents get mad at me every time I go into that private room and
drink from it. Lately they have been covering it with a top that sits on it. This
morning I didn't even get through the door before my foster daddy yelled at me. I
don't know what the problem is. The water is always there and they never have to
fill it. All they do is push on a handle and the old water drains out and presto there's
fresh water, it's like magic. I sleep in a crate next to my foster brother and sister.
My foster parents tell me that I listen very well. I like car rides and settle in with out
to much fuss. My last ride I got comfortable and went right to sleep.
Now let me tell you what I'm looking for. I would love a home with a fenced yard. I
would like an expierenced family that is willing to work with me. I would prefer to be
in a home with older children or no children at all. I like cats and other dogs as long
as they like me. I will also work hard at becoming a part of the family. I love
attention so I would like someone who has a little time in the day to sit down and
play with me or just pet me. If I sound like the one for you please call on me. I
really want to get to my forever home.
08/04/03-Teddie has made it to the Retreat. We picked him up and brought him
home yesterday. He is a handsome fawn male approximately 2 and a half years old.
Teddie is neuterd, has natural ears, docked tail, and dew claws. Teddie has white in
the center of his chest and white on the tip of each paw. Teddie is settleing in nicely
here. Stay tuned for more updates.
