8/14/03 "Hi there, Tappan here, and apologies for not writing sooner, but Mom's
computer has been having a difficult summer with the humidity. Anyway we all (Magoo,
Annabelle, Kellie and myself) went to the annual SCBR boxer picnic in Poland ME on July
4th and were the models of behavior. Magoo earned himself a certificate and Mom says
that if I am still here for the next class, I too, will earn my certificate. We take Mom for a
walk at least twice each day and she has started to allow me to run in the meadow for
short periods of time. What a great thing it is to be able to run and run. I am learning to
be a guidedog for Magoo and I love playing fetch. I hope you are looking for a forever
dog in your life, because I am looking for a forever family in my life. Love Tappan."
6/19/03 Hi Tappan here again with a short addition to the update. I had forgotten that I
really love to play throw the toy and fetch. Braille reminded me at the BRAD we went to
last Saturday, because she really likes to play that game, and when we got home I
borrowed one of Magoo's toys and brought it to Mom. She got the hint and threw the toy
(many times). I have been having a great time and Mom's arm is getting tired, soooooooo,
if you like to pitch things around, I'm your dog/man. Love Tappan
6/14/03 - Tappan here for another short update. I went to my very first BRAD today at
Falmouth ME with my foster brother Magoo and Janice told Mom that I was a very good
boy, especially for my very first outing since coming to Maine. Lots of people stopped by
to pet me and I loved every minute and pat of it. The resident cats were of great interest
to me, very curious creatures. They just sit there and stare and hardly even move. Every
time someone offered me a treat we both sat down quickly as all good Boxers should,
although we were not very hungry. (We had breakfast before coming out). I was also
very behaved with Mr. Seamus, Braille and Bubba. I don't mind other dogs at all. Even
the visiting ones customers brought in. I am really looking forward to my own forever
home and hope you are looking for me. I am a very special boy.
5/26/93 - Tappan here and it has been a month since arriving at the Doghouse. Mom
weighed me this morning and I now am up to 62 lbs. Much better than the 47 lbs I arrived
with. My ankles and elbows are also much better. I am becoming a happy boxer boy
again, doing the things boxers are known for. I am a little over protective of my foster
home right now because I feel good and I have to learn that I should let the resident pack
handle things. When I get to my forever home I will need some loving and thorough
guidance about what is acceptable and what is not. I am mostly pretty well trained, Mom
thinks that in my former life I probably went to obedience school. Walking on the leash is
good, but there is so much to explore and I get carried away with all the smells out in the
meadow. I share my food, especially with the Alpha! "Sammy". She is getting older and
does not need any flack from me. I cuddle up with the resident Pekingese, but have not yet
met the neighborhood felines. Mom says that soon we will go visiting and see how that
goes. I sure don't get very excited when they parade past the fence. I think the cats do it to
tease the residents. Well, hope you are thinking of me. Mom says I am a loving lap dog.
Oh, and I really have "letting people know I have to go potty" down pat. I have not had
any accidents and am pretty well behaved even when Mom has to put me in the crate for a
few hours. Love Tappan
5/1/03 Tappan came to the Doghouse this week, a very emaciated, White boxer Boy with
lots of sore spots on his body. The first two days he was very frightened and would not eat
very much. But he has now decided that this is a good place to be and has started eating
and joining in with the rest of the canines. We will be putting some pounds on his frame
and then make an appointment for his neuter. He has had all his shots and generally is
becoming a boxer again. He even wagged his tail some today and loves to go for walks in
the meadow. Everything is very new for him and he is very curious. This boy is a love.
4/28/03 - Tappan has arrived today into rescue. He is white with natural ears & a docked
tail & we estimate him to be around 3 years old. This boy was a stray from Newark, NJ
that ended up at the shelter who contacted us as soon as he arrived so we could get him
into foster care. We were happy to be able to give him a ride to his foster home in Maine
on Monday when we were on our way home from being at the Super Pet Expo in
Edison,NJ. He rode very well in the crate in the car on the way home & seemed very
sweet. Watch for pictures & updates soon on Tappan from his foster home!
