UPDATE 9/27/05 - Well it's been a while since I last updated SCBR about Kobe.  We've had
a lot change since my last update.  The most important is the addition of my baby daughter to
our family.  She was born 5/25/05.   Kobe loves her.  We've also moved into a new home.
Now both Kobe and Blue have a big back yard to play in.  Time has passed so quickly since
we adopted Kobe.  He has been both a joy and a pain.  It seems as though he has finally
gotten over his clutsy ways.  For awhile he was costing me a mint in vet bills and visits.  I look
forward to updating SCBR soon with pics and more info.  Thanks for everything.

UPDATED 3/23/04 - Well I guess it's about that time to give an update on Kobe.  Where do I
begin?  Kobe is full of energy and we can definitely feel his impact on our lives.  The beginning
was a little rocky with all of the medical issues that he was having.  He has a clean bill of health
and has asserted himself as the dominate dog in the house.  I was pretty surprised by this due
to the fact that Blue is about 40-50lbs heavier than Kobe.  He did an excellent job during his
obedience group classes.  We were often told that he was very intellegent and a fast learner.
We are excited with the beginning of spring so we can make our trips to the dog parks.

UPDATED 11/24/03 - Well, where do I start.  Kobe is adjusting quite well to our family.  It
was very tough in the beginning with all of the medical issues that he was having.  Just last
month he had an episode of colitis.  That was pretty scary because I had no idea what was
wrong with him when I saw blood in is stool.  I took him to the emergency vet and they
checked him out.  They gave us some antibiotics and sent us on our way.  It's funny that I've
been to the vet more the past two months with Kobe then I've been the whole 18 months I've
had Blue (my other dog).  And Blue's a mutt.  Anyway, the two of them together is a handful.
Kobe is constantly harrassing Blue by biting on his leg, ears and whatever else he can get his
mouth on.  The weird thing is that Blue seems to love the rough play.  There haven't been any
real fights with the two of them (no blood shed, just a couple of  scrathes) They seem to enjoy
each others company. I'll update some more soon after we go to a couple of obedience classes.

UPDATE 10/8/03 - Just wanted to share a couple of photos of Kobe, formally known as
Spanky, and Blue.  We adopted Kobe about a month ago from SCBR.  He is the puppy that
came to the foster home with Boots.  Blue is our 18month old Boxer/Pitbull mix.  We had our
concerns about how the two would get along in the beginning.  Blue is very animal and people
friendly but he's huge.  He's about 90lbs plus.  Kobe came to us pretty thin.  Anyway, Kobe
and Blue are the best of pals now.  Blue gets a little jealous every now and then but we are
very please to have both dogs as part of our family.  Well, hope you enjoy the photos.

UPDATE 9/27/03 - Well it's been two weeks exactly since we brought our new addition
home.  It's been an interesting two weeks.  We renamed Spanky to Kobe.  So throughout the
update he will be referred to as Kobe.  Kobe was taken to our vet on Tuesday, 9/16.  They
tested his stool sample and it was found that he was positive for round worm.  We were also
advised that he had an ear infection that had not been treated previously.  Medication was
given to us for both along with antibiotics for Kennel cough.  The vet also recommended that an
E-collar be put on Kobe since he had been constantly licking his incision from his castration.
So that's basically it medically.  He just finished his antibiotics for the Kennel cough.  He'll be
on the ear infection medication for another week.  His incision is completely healed so no more
E-collar.  As far as his adjustment to the house and my other dog, Blue, Kobe is doing well.
He's had a couple of No. 1 accidentson the carpet but that was when he first came.  He and
Blue are best of friends.  They play constantly.  Sometimes they get a little rough.  Kobe does a
lot of play biting and unfortunately Blue has picked up this bad habit in the matter of a week.
We're working on both of them.  We are still exploring possible obedience training courses.
Kobe absolutely hates being crated.  We are exploring the option of fencing him in the kitchen
while we are out.  That's still in the planning phase, though.  Kobe is very intelligent, energetic
and a great addition to our family.  It's been an adjustment for all of us.  He requires a lot of
supervision with our other dog.  If they aren't sleeping they are running through the house
tackling each other and playing tug of war with whatever toy is available.  Right now Blue
outweighs Kobe by 50+ pounds, so he wins.  But Kobe is fearless and I think that when Kobe
gets his weight up, he's gonna give Blue a run for his money.  I'll update soon on Kobe's health.
He's still trying to kick this Kennel cough. Nothing else to report at this time.  Thanks.

9/13/03 Spanky has been adopted!

9/8/03 Spanky arrived at the Last Retreat last night...what a little cutie he is! He has
a little cold cough, but he is much better today. Spanky is beautiful fawn puppy wiith a black
mask, docked tail, and natural ears. He has a long lean body and his hind end is well
developed, so he should have good strong legs and hips. He looks like he might grow into a
pretty big  athletically-built dog. He loves to play, but is very good when told to calm down or
to sit.  He curious about the cat, but hasn't tried to hurt her or anything, and I think with steady
exposure he will be fine. He rides well in the car and seems to be housebroken so far. My dogs
can easily access the outdoors, but he does head right out to do his stuff, and stands at the
door when its shut. He likes to snuggle and give sweet little kisses. He is getting along fine with
all the other dogs here, ages 6 months to 10 years, both sexes. More to come!
