11/27/03 What a fantastic guy! The Riverview could not have a better guest! Today was a
beautiful, unseasonably warm day, and Sox and Tika spent most of the day outside, rompig in
he backyard. He has that ganly adolescent long-legged lope, and it was so much fun to
watch them play! I was often outside the fenced in area, raking and doing yard work, and he
would follow me around, looking through the slats of the fence. Sox has been consistently
toileting outside, so maybe he just had an accident or two with all his changes including
arriving here in Maine. He tok his antibiotic without a fuss, allowing me to open his mouth to
insert it twice. TWice he gently lipped it back out, so we did the turkey giblet trick since he
had nio interest in cheese. I've never met a dog who didn't like cheese! Fior a young guy he
is very mellow inside, which is to my liking. All in all, we couldn't ask for a better fellow!
11/26/03 Sox is part of the family! He accompanied Tika to her vet appointment and they
had matching treatments so they are both UTD on everything! Sox is heartworm free, and
will have a fecal check when his diarrhea has cleared up. He has a respsiratory infection and
started antibiotics. He rode like a champ in the car, and impressed our vet with his charm
and good looks. (And they know their Boxers, so a compliment is valued!) They judged his
age at between two and three years, so we settled on 2 1/2. He is a great guy who will fill
out to about 80 pounds when he puts the weight back on. Right now he weighs 62 pounds,
and you cna count his ribs and vertebrae easily. But his coat is in good condition, so I don't
think he was out on the streets for long. Sox doesn';t seem to know any commands, but his
easy going temperament makes him easy to live with even without any education. What
potential he has! And he loves attention (what Boxer doesn't!) The camera-challenged
photographer wannabees at the Riverview will try again to get a few snaps so you all can see
how cute--and how skinney--he is.
11/25/03 Sox has recently migrated from New Jersey to Maine with the help of a bundle of
dedicated transport volunteers. Sox, as we named him, was a stray at a New Jersey shelter.
He is a handsome young male, a flashy fawn with cropped ears and a docked tail, quite
classic looking. He is neutered and soon to be up to date on his shots. Sox was going to
continue to travel north after a brief rest in Kennebunk, but the Riverview Boxer-hostel
decided to reopen temporarily during a hiatus in their renovations to accomodate him! He
has a great personality and loves attention. He has met my two resident Boxers, a male and a
female, and is fine with both. Even though he's skinny as can be and must have missed a few
meals, he is fine about me or Tika (who could afford to miss a few meals) being near his food
or water bowls. Sox needs to learn appropriate bathroom manners, but that shouldn't take
too long. He crates easily and comfortably, so house training should progress nicely. He's
home for this holiday at his new foster home--and will be hoping to be in his forever home for
the next holidays!
