UPDATED 3/20/04 - Pig is great! Can't say much more... we love her, the kids love her,
people who visit love her, and the other canines love her. Her adjustment has been
terrific, and it is funny for us to have a little lady in the house (we've only had males
previously). We have had medical issues related to incontinence (now being treated with
DES) and a stubborn ear cut that just would not heal. She will be going back to
obedience in April as she has become somewhat of a pushy little lady - and we want to be
sure she can continue to represent SCBR at BRAD events without barking at all other
dogs.
UPDATED 12/15/03 - Miss Piggy (Pig) is terrific! That is, her adjustment to our house
has been easy (with the exception of not wanting to go potty in the snow) and our
adjustment to her has been seamless. She
is a joyful addition to our house - the kids, the adults, and the canines all love her. She has
gained some of her needed weight and although she continues to display separation
anxiety, has settled a bit when we have to
leave. She trained to the doggie door and invisible fence in no time, and will complete her
obedience course this week (needs continued leash work and "stay"). And, she has
trained us to her needs for more food (push ceramic bowl across tile floor) and to go
outside (paws the door). She has even had a good time attending various BRAD events,
including getting her picture taken with Santa. We are so excited to show her off to our
holiday visitors!
11/8/03 Miss Piggy has been adpoted.
10/31/03 Good news. Piggy had her last heartworm treatment today. All has gone well so
far. Piggy even gained 2 and 1/2 pounds. I'm so proud of her. Piggy is just the most
incredible dog ever. She is so good with everyone big and small. Loves ever dog she sees.
Piggy has been such a great guest here, she has learned how to share the bed at night. She
never has an accident in the house anymore. She is so gentle when she takes treats, and
she minds well. This girl is going to make a new family very happy. We will be very sad to
see her move on but know that we have been able to make her healthy again. Thanks so
much to all the people who donated for her care. I will take some new pictures so you can
see how great she looks.
10/1/03 I'm still having a problem getting this little muchkin to eat. She doesn't like
anything, steak, hamburger, mash pots. Dr. Matt sent her home to fatten up and it is not
easy. She certainly doesn't fit her name. Other than that Piggy is doing great. She gets
along wonderful with all the other dogs. She adores kids. She met my 1 and 3 year old
neice and nephew yesterday and she about turned inside out. She was so excited. She is
having no housebreaking issues but continues to hate the crate. Hopefully Piggy will start
treatment on Monday.
9/29/03 Well poor Piggy made it to the vets today. She weighed in at 40 pounds. Dr.
Matt felt she was to thin to start her treatment. So he sent me home to put some weight on
her. She will go back Monday hopefully to start. He feels she needs to be in better shape
to indure the procedure. Lets hope we can get her to fatten up a little. She has very little
interest in food so it shouldn't be easy.
9/28/03 Piggy continues to do well here. She is cratetrained and housebroken. She is
fabulous with all the dogs here, no problems at all. She is gentle and sweet. She sleeps
wonderful in her crate all night or is happy to curl up on your lap to watch TV. Piggy goes
tomorrow to start her heartworm treatment. Please pray that she doesn't have any
problems. I hate to put her through this but I know she has to do it. Lets hope her little
body can handle it and she will be feeling better soon.:
Miss Piggy just arrived into rescue, thanks to my ex for giving her a ride. Piggy is an
owner surrender. Her family found out that she is heartworm positive and said they can't
afford to take care of her. So they turned her over to rescue. Miss Piggy lived with 5 kids
another dog and a cat. We will update you as we get to know her better.
