UPDATED 8/1/04 - Well 1st let me thank all of you in the SCBR group, from my son,
our Lex and myself for responding to my plea for help when it looked hopeless for our
baby girl. She had lost a ton of weight with no cause apparent. The amount of responses
and well wishes were overwhelming. I had seen how everyone rallies together when a
question or problem goes out but when it was for my girl it really hit home how wonderful
you all and the SCBR organization itself are. Unfortunately I panicked when nothing the
vet did was producing any answers. So I agreed to the endoscopy (8/10), which showed
nothing. He called while she was still under and asked if he could take a look inside her
body cavity to see if there was anything visible going on inside. I agreed. Soon all the
biopsies came back negative. Relieved that it wasn’t cancer, but still frustrated
at the lack of answers I spoke with Donna, who had done our homecheck when we
adopted Lexi. She turned me towards probiotics. In one of the group responses, Terry C
suggested contacting Sandy Sanel in NH at her Pet Nutrition Center; there I spoke
with……. I think his name is Adam, and he explained what I need to know
about probiotics and eased my concerns about any interaction with the pancreas enzyme
the vet had put her on. So the good news now is that something is finally working. She
had most of her staples and stitches taken out last Sat. (8/21) and had gained almost 2
lbs. since the surgery. YEA!!!!! And the last few days she has been almost her old
spunky, puppy self. I didn’t realize how much I missed her bouncy personality.
Also thank you to Julie, her foster mom for offering her a place to stay if I had needed to
bring Lexi to her vet in ME. Again you all are wonderful, we are lucky to have you as
close as the click of a button on the internet.

It took me 2 days to get the guts to look at her incision and stitches at which point I just
laid with her, cried all over her and apologized for putting her through that for nothing.
What we did find out from the surgery is that her mouth does not open as wide as it
should, her throat opening into her esophagus is smaller than it should be and her palette
is still long and hanging into the back of her throat. So between those things, her turned in
eyelids, and the plate & pin in her back right leg, I am now calling her Frankie, she seems
to be put together like a Frankenstein pup. But her personality, temperament and
sweetness makes everyday of slobbery floors worth every second. I like to think that we,
as her 6th and final residence in less than 2 yrs. constitute a happy ending.

10/2/03 UPDATED - Hello Boxer Families: Lexi has been our baby for 2 months now
and people have told me they can see how much joy she has brought to our home. And
they laugh at me ‘cause I talk baby talk to her and answer her snorts and snuffles with
imitations. She is still the sweetest little girl I have ever met. And the more people I meet
the more I love my dog. She is still having trouble with her right front leg but it’s
intermittent and only sore when she over does it playing. Although I have noticed stiffness
in her back left leg. Not the back leg with the pin & plate. So basic training is STILL on
hold. But we’re doing what we can
a little at a time. And she is doing well when we walk and I drop the leash and walk
away. Only when there’s no one else around so far.I finally got a conversation from
her like Julie (foster mom) said I would. It was late 1 night and we were cuddling in the
living room, she got restless and got up and started sniffing the bottom of the couch. She
kept looking at me and “talking and pawing at the floor around the couch. I tried
to get her to come back but she was relentless. I finally lifted the couch; she dove under it
and proudly brought out a rock and dropped it at my feet. She was so happy that she
saved us from that menacing rock I just had to give her a treat. She basically accosted a
man down the street because he was washing his camper and had a hose in his hand. She
wouldn’t leave him alone until I asked him to give her a drink from it. He was
puzzled but friendly. She is definitely running water motivated I am amazed at the
ignorance of some people, especially other-breed
dog owners. I think I’m becoming a Boxer snob. The nasty old man with the
scaredy-cat poodle said she looked mean. Although we have met more of our nice dog
walking neighbors. Our neighborhood is like a dog walking track. I was nervous about
approaching other dogs because she had been so vocally aggressive when they walked
by before. But the trainer where she will attend class said to let her approach them on a
loose leash and see what happens. If I hold her back she will think they are unsafe. So
far so good. She is the messiest eater I’ve ever met. If I didn’t know better Iâ
€™d say she was rabid daily with the foamy stuff hanging off her jowls during feeding
time. She’s getting used to having her face wiped with her own personal face cloth
hanging near her food dishes. It wouldn’t be so bad if she weren’t so nosey. If
she stayed at her dishes and ate, we wouldn’t have to follow her around with a
towel. PUPPY SLIME, YUCK! (That’s Zack’s daily
chant.)She did escape about a week and a half ago. The little girl next door opened the
door and out Lexi hopped. THANK GOD she is such a kid-loving girl, she went straight
to the older sister of the door-opening
culprit. I had to yell at THE PEOPLE not to chase her, to just call her but she went to
Jess and we gave her praise and love for coming back. WHEW! We live across from the
public water supply woods and that scares the heck out of me without her being 100%
reliable on the “come command yet. Thanks again to all who helped her find her
place with us.  Christi, Zack & Lexi

Lexi left for her forever home yesterday afternoon following a very pleasant visit with her
new mom...It was definately love at first sight for the two of them. Lexi greeting her mom
with extra wiggles and kisses like she already knew her.... We will miss this little cutie
pie!!!  She sat up proud with her new leash, collar and seat belt right beside Mom and
never looked back........This was a storytale ending !!!

7/22/03 Lexi here...guess what, guess what??? My new mom is coming to get me this
Saturday and I am going to have a big brother named Zach......I am just so excited that I
can't hold still....course my foster mom says that I don't do very well with that
anyways!....I am a wiggle butt and a dancing girl....I need to stay active and curious
about everything...I sniff in every corner of the house every single day, just to make sure
they haven't changed anything...my foster mom thinks I should have been a cat, ....she
says "Lexi, you know what curiosity did to the cat?"...well I don't know!  BUT, I do
know that it's just such a big beautiful world , that I don't want to miss anything that might
be going on without me...My foster dad says it's just "Miss Nosey Posey"!
They just love me here...and they tell me that all the time. And even all the neighbors love
me...they all come just to visit me....There's little kids all around here and they always
come over if I'm out playing on the deck and yell "Lexi, Lexi" So of course I don't want
to disapoint little kids...I play with them all they want me to!!! The little boy that lives here
...Jake, he likes to pat me and lean on me...I let him...cos he is very gentle and my foster
mommy watches to make sure that he doesn't get rough with me! He likes when I play in
his wading pool with him...cos' I like to splash around,. ...he doesn't like when I lie down
and soak up the whole pool of water!!! Well good bye now!!! Wish me luck with my
new family...I just know I'm going to love them!!!

7/11/03 Lexi is doing great here at her foster home, she is a wonderful little girl, full of
sweet kisses and boxer wiggles. She is still very much a puppy and will play all day if
allowed. Fortunately we have enough dogs here right now so that we can let them take
turns with her. Lexi gets along wonderful with everyone she meets and with all other
dogs. She is okay with cats, however views them as play toys,so must be supervised
with them. If you are looking for a great all around boxer baby, than Lexi is your girl.
Don't let her vision impairment sway you, she is not handicapped by it. She appears to
sense where things are and is only tripped up if something suddenly moves. In new
surroundings she will go more slowly until she is confident. Lexi has grown into her steel
leg pin and is no longer troubled by it in the slightest. Since her soft palate surgery she is
now able to eat drink and breath normally...the only leftover is that she still snores!!! We
find it adorable,....but then, we find everything about this pretty little girl adorable!!!  Get
your applications in quick, this girls a winner!!!

6/22/03- Lexi is ready for her palate surgery and will be going in on Tuesday to see our
wonderful vet. She will have to wait a couple more weeks for the steel pin as the vet
would like to see if it heals more and is more comfortable. Maybe she won't need a
surgery on her leg...She has been taking her Pepcid AC daily and her stomach is feeling
much better now....
We have a visitor here at the Upperfield, a 12 month old Golden Retriever named
Brady...Lexi is in love and the two are just playing the days away. I have to stop the play
after a while or the two of them would just drop from exhaustion. All that joy in life and
youth is a wonderful thing to watch and we are being very entertained by their ad-libbing.
Lexi is a very vocal dog and will need a home that doesn't mind her talking most of the
time...she will actually talk to herself when she is outside alone....all sorts of little noises
erupt from her....Especially while playing...we think it's very comical.
Lexi attended her first BRAD yesterday and was very well behaved, if a little noisy,. She
just loves other dogs and appears to have no issues with any size or gender. She has just
as much fun playing with and teasing my Shitzu, Maggie May, as she does playing with
her boxer friends(not to mention Brady...who is huge!) Lexi is looking for a home with a
playmate or two of the canine variety....kitties are okay...however, they don't like to play
with her...she thinks they are either stuffed animals or maybe dogs and is a bit rough. The
two older cats hide from her and the kitten, Cup-cake, just smacks her in the face...
unfortunately Lexi doesn't know when to quit....she's still very much a puppy and I
believe will learn.

05/31/03- Lexi has had a very busy week here at Upperfields. Last Sunday, she attended
Obedience Class with me and did very well. On Monday we let her relax a bit and get
used to the other dogs. On Tuesday she went to visit the Health Spa and ended up
spending the night. Lexi has some health issues that we will be keeping an eye on for a
few weeks. She will need surgery to trim back an severely elongated soft palate that is
obstructing her ability to eat, drink or breath properly. She also has a steel rod and bone
plate in her hind leg that is causing her some discomfort. As her leg is healing the rod is
pushing into her muscle and will need to be trimmed to eliminate this. The doctor would
like to give the healing process a couple more weeks to complete before doing this
procedure. She also has an upset tummy, which showed to be inflamed on x-rays , she is
taking Pepcid AC to help her keep food down.  Lexi also is vision impaired, however we
will weed our way thru the rest of her issues prior to exploring this any further. Please
keep Lexi in your thoughts and prayers.
Now the good news, Lexi is the sweetest most loveable little girl imaginable. She does
the best kidney bean dance !! And is the very first dog, and that includes boxers that I
have ever met that can wiggle her butt so that she actually touches her shoulders on each
side...It's a sight to see!!!

Lexi has arrived at the Upperfields and is settling in. She is very sweet. She comes from a
wonderful shelter in Massachusetts where they took very good care of this pretty little
girl. More to come...stay tuned!!! This little girl wil not be in rescue long......
