9/7/03 Kato has been adopted!

8/9/03 Kato, Kato what can I say. This boy is full of it. He is very active and smart. Kato
needs a home that is very dog savvy. He loves to play but plays rough and it can get out of
control. He needs to be told when enough is enough. He listens very well. Kato is great with
the other dogs and has no problems with any of them. Kato is to much for small children and
I would not trust him with them. He needs a job. Kato would be a great dog for obedience
and even agility. He loves to work, he loves to learn. He would be a great running partner as
well. Kato needs a high energy home with someone that will get him right into training. He
would be fine with other dogs big or small but NO cats. Kato is awesome in his crate and
completely housebroken. This boy deserves a home, is it yours?

7/16/03 Mr.Kato is currently having some attitude problems. We are trying very hard to
work with him and make him a good family guy. I wish I knew more about his background
as we can't really figure out what makes him tick. He is wonderful with the other dogs. Great
in his crate, fully housebroken. But he is starting to have a real attitude with people. Stay
tuned as hopefully we will see some good changes soon. At this time he is not available for
adoption.

6/11/03 What can I say about this boy. He is full of energy, really enjoys life. Kato is
cratetrained but prefers to be with you. He is completely housebroken too. He does need
some manners in the house, like learning the counter is off limits. Kato really likes the kids
and kisses them all over. He has met tons of new people and loves everyone. Kato loves to
play but does occasionaly get carried away, you just have to make him settle down and he
figures it all out. Kato would do wonderful with a fenced in yard to get out his energy. Once
he has played for a while he settles right down. He was wonderful about letting me take out
his stitches last night. This is one happy guy who I promise will keep you laughing.

5/31/03 - Kato has moved to The Boxer Oasis for fostering this week to learn more about
his personality.  It seems Kato & one of the men in the last foster home just didn't see eye to
eye all the time so we wanted to get another opinion on his personality.  Kato was great
when I met him at the foster home, just very jumpy but in a super playful way.  He kept
trying to grab the leash I had brought with me & tugging on it to make me play with him.

Kato is super cute & not a big boy, more of a medium sized boxer.  He is VERY active for
a 5 year old, I would have guessed by watching him play & act that he was only 2 years old.
Kato rides great in the car & jumped right in to head home with me.  I have tested him with
my 3 cats & Kato does not seem to like them at all.  He constantly barks at them & will go
after them until he is clawed, but he keeps on trying to get to them.  He does eventually get
bored & give up or will listen after being told a few times to leave the kitties alone so I don't
see him as a "cat killer" type at least, but I don't see him living with cats either.  More
updates soon as I get to know this sweetie!

5/28/03 - Poor Kato! He nibbled at his neuter stitches, opened his suture wide open, and
had to go to the emergency vet to get sewn back up. This time he came home with a
protective Elizabethan collar so it can't happen again! He seems to be getting around just fine
even with it on, and doesn't bump into too many things (except me). He's also on an
antibiotic, which has the positive side effect of curing his sniffles. Kato continues to get along
with my two boxers. We have been doing alot of leash walking since his surgeries, and he
isn't too bad! I'd still recommend a Gentle Leader, which I can't use with the Elizabethan
collar, but he is not out of control so I'd guess he was taken for walks before. He certianly
acts like he knows what leashes and doors are for!

5/24/03 - Kato is home from his neuter, and has recuperated. Like most boys, he needed a
day to feel better. The vet also looked at his enlarged nipples and decided that they are quite
normal, and will probably shrink as his hormone levels decrease. Everyone ther commented
on what a handsome man he was. I was surprised that I so overestimated his weight--he
only weighed 51 pounds on their scale. So when he's filled ouy he should be around 60. He
seems much more comfortable here at the Rivervirew now--he is eating, gets along with both
my male and my female, and has had no accidents in the house. He was in the living room
with everyone last evening, and showed us all that he knows how to be a couch potato. He
has a little bit of a runny nose, but most of the shelter dogs do.

5/21/03 - Kato is settling in nicely. He hs met both Rocky and Tika in person and is getting
along fine with them. He has been eating his two meals a day nicely and really likes his meal
when it has a bit of people food as accompaniment--which has been boiled hamburg with
rice. His stool has firmed up and he has had no accidents in the house. I got my first little
Boxer-kiss, and have seent his nub a-waggin' a few times, so I know he is less confused and
insecure.

5/19/03 Kato arrived here at the Riverview safe and sound after a long transport up from
New Jersey.  He had been an owner surrender to the shelter there, and is reported to be
good with children (I don't have any here, but he met my friend's ten year old today and was
fine.)  He definitely likes teenagers--when my son came home last night, Kato acted like he
was his long lost friend!  He was tired and stressed out, but is settling in.  He slept in his crate
nicely last night, and during the day while I was at work today.  He went right in--the peanut
butter stuffed Kong was an incentive!  Then this afternoon he ran and ran and ran in the
backyard with Tika.  He really wore her out, and himself, too.  He's snoozing next to me as I
write.  This boy needs a neuter and to be brought UTD  so we have an appointment for
Thursday.  The vet will check out his mammary lumps then, too, and I bet they come off
then, too.

5/18/03 Kato has arrived.  He's about 65 pounds and needs about 10 more.  Natural ears
and a docked tail (my favorite combination).  He is a nice brindle with almost no white.  He
knows his name, 'sit' and appears housebroken and crate trained (yeah).  He is in major
need of a neuter.  He also has a growth--maybe a small mammary tumor--that will need to
come off.  He was very stressed, but has settled into the crate nicely now, after time to
investigate the yard and pee and poop.  Lots of marking spritzes--luckily all outside!  He
didn't care to eat any supper, but will hopefully be interested in breakfast in the morning as
he is thin.  He seemed to be OK with my Tika through the seperating gate, and through the
crate door.
