7/30/03 - Hi All Jamie here.......BOW WOW have I ever had an exciting summer! I
hosted another BRAD on July 19th, I was such a good boy. I received lots of attention
from all the people who attended and I got to meet a few other dogs too. I was very
well behaved, my foster mom was proud. Mom says I get to "host" another BRAD on
Saturday yippee! I am also helping plan our 2003 Boxer BASH as a matter of fact
mom says 4 other volunteers are coming over tonight for a meeting. Ya right, a
meeting. I know they are really coming over to see me!!
Foster mom is trying to fine tune my medicine to figure out exactly how much I need.
She opted to get the pills for me which are not used as commonly so the vet is not
exactly sure of the dosage. The other treatment is a spray that would go into my eyes,
my foster mom did some research and the spray leads to vision loss. Mom says she
was not willing to risk my vision so we pay a bit more for the pills. I have been
improving greatly! A fellow SCBR dog has DI and his mom hooked us up with a
company with the lowest prices (Thanks Helen and Magoo). My meds cost about $54
and last a little over a month at my current dosage......compared to $75 at out local
pharmacies. I know I am a little expensive but my SCBR family says I am WORTH
EVERY PENNY!!!!
I finally did something bad the other day.......I snuck out of the house and did not
stay in the yard. Mom and Dad found me a few blocks away. They did not seem to
understand that I only went there to play with Jonathan (the little boy who comes over
to play with me). My house in in "lock-down" mode now that I am an escapee. Geesh,
one little mistake and they watch me like a hawk! I did come running right to my foster
parents when I saw them, thankfully I thought better of playing "keep-away". I would
have been in big trouble then.
Well, that's it for now. Antonio and Maisey are hounding me to play. If your in the
area stop by and see me at one of my BRADS. Wiggles and Kisses, Jamie
Update 6/16/03 - Hi All, Jamie is officially done with all his testing. He went in at 8am
on Thursday for a water deprivation test. He did not dehydrate is quickly as expected
so poor Jamie was not ready to go home until after 9pm. It was a long day but Jamie
was very well behaved at the vet and was VERY happy to be home.
Now for the results, Jamie has been diagniosed with Central Diabetes Insipidus (DI).
Which means basically he is either not making enough of the hormone needed to
concentrate urine or for some reason his body is not responding to it. Central DI can
be treated with daily medication. Dogs with DI can go on to leave happy, normal lives
even if they are untreated. The most major medical risk if left untreated is the risk of
dehydration. I have opted to treat Jamie with daily meds as I would like to make his life
as normal as possible. The price of this medication varies greatly, so I am checking
around for the best supplier. Because DI is quite rare, I am not sure of his exact
dosage. We have have to play around with it, once I figure out a cost I will let you
know. As of now I had no idea if a script will last him a month or three so I can't even
ballpark it.
Update 6/6/03 - Jamie continues to be a great houseguest. I have no reservations with
him being adopted to a home with children or other dogs. He is so very gentle and
loving with my children. He is great with Maisey and Antonio as well. Jamie went to the
vet again on Tuesday and we had another culture done to check for infection. He did
have a small infection that he was treated for last visit, but we want to make the the
antibiotics wiped it out. He now weighs a whopping......are you ready for this?? 58.2
pounds!!!! Yeah Jamie! He is still undergoing some tests to find the cause of his
excessive drinking.
Jamie gets more playful each day, now runs around and plays with our huge assortment
of dog toys. He shares with the others very nicely too. We went to a state park on
Memorial day and had a blast. Jamie was very well behaved just as I expected. We
went rock climbing and he hussled up the rocks with no hesitation. A real adventurer!
He has much more stamina now, he would tire after a block or two but now he can
walk (or climb) for quite awhile before needing a rest. When we were coming down
the trail from our rock climbing adventure about 10 horses were on their way up the
trail. I was really worried that one of the dogs was going to spook them. Antonio and
Jamie stared at the horses for awhile then started to play bow and jump around. It was
just hilarious, the look on their faces. They thought they had found a "pack" of really big
dogs to play with! All the riders commented on how beautiful and well behaved they
were!
5/1/03 - Hi All, Jamie here! My foster mom and her good friend Linda (I prefer to call
her Aunt Linda) took me to see a different vet to have some tests done. I have had
quite a few tests done lately, but I know it is all for my own good. My foster Mom and
Aunt Linda are hoping that we find the cause of my excessive drinking ASAP so I can
get on the \"ROAD TO RECOVERY\". I was a VERY good boy at the vets office.....
of course I am ALWAYS a good boy. I have been eating well and love going for
walks or car rides. I get along wonderfully with every human and dog I met. I am just a
happy go Lucky boy! My foster Mom went to a SCBR meeting in New Jersey this
past weekend and she bought a HUGE dog bed for Maisey. Luckily Maisey doesn\'t
mind sharing her bed with me and we curl up for a nice afternoon nap. At night I get to
sleep on the ! dog bed right next to my foster Mom\'s bed. I don\'t have any accidents
at night. My foster dad is way cool and I follow him all over the house and LOVE to
snuggle up with him. When mom was in NJ my foster dad was painting some molding
and I tried to help.......well, let\'s this put it this way I am now a ** FLASHY FAWN
** with the help of some white paint. Well, Gotta go! Keep your fingers crossed for a
good diagnosis.
4/29/03 - Jamie is doing very well here. He is wonderful with the other dogs and my
children. Jamie went to the vet 2 weeks ago and we have another appointment on
Thursday to find out what is going on with him. He is in fine shape other than trying to
figure out the cause of his excessive drinking and he needs to gain a few pounds. He
weighed in at 49 pounds and I am shocked that he weighs that much. He is so skinny!
He does not give me any problems and is an easy going, loving boy. He is going to
make some lucky family very happy when he is adopted. Jamie does very well in the
crate, just settles down for a nap. If I leave for a short period of time I have been
leaving him out. He just naps until I get home, never getting into any trouble. I have
noticed when I am not home he will have an accident if left in the crate (even for short
periods), but he won't have any if he is left out in the house. He also makes it through
the night without having to go out. I pick up the water dish at 8pm, last out is at 11pm
and he can hold it from 11pm until 7am. He seems to be doing great with our new
routine and now that he is settling in he has not had many accidents in the house. If he
does it is MY FAULT for loosing track of time...... More updates coming soon!
UPDATE 4/19/03 - Jamie has been here a few days now and we have gotten to know
him quite a bit better. He is a love! He is great with the other dogs, great with my
children and just a joy to have around. He always has a Boxer wiggle for everyone he
meets. He has been eating 4 times a day to help him gain some much needed weight.
He is in dire need of a bath, which we cannot do until his sutures from his neuter are
removed. The white on his feet is a yucky yellow color. I will be making an
appointment with the groomer when those stitches are removed so she can get him
back into tip top shape. He is so very handsome as you can see by his pictures. He can
easily stand to gain 15-20 pounds, if his appetite keeps up that won't be a problem. I
really cannot get over how well Jamie has fit into my home. Especially with 2 other
fosters here and my own 2 fur kids. jamie and his foster brothers (Antonio and Reggie)
are all laying in a heap on the floor next to me as I type. You would swear the 3 of
them have been together much longer than a few days. Tuesday morning is our trip to
the vet. Keep your fingers crossed that we find out what is going on with jamie's water
drinking/frequent urination. Although Jamie does have some accidents in the house, I
truly believe they are sometimes beyond his control and he IS HOUSEBROKE. We
have been having some great weather here so I have been leaving my sliding glass door
open so Jamie can go in and out whenever he needs to. If the door is open he does not
have a single accident in the house all day. He has yet to have a #2 accident in the
house either. I am seriously considering getting one of those doggie doors that attaches
to your sliding glass door for him....the only thing that is holding me back is that he is so
tall, I am not sure if he could easily fit through it. Jamie has a big week ahead of him.
Tomorrow is easter and we have about 30 people over for dinner, Monday his foster
sister (Foxy) is being adopted and Tuesday he goes to see the Boxer Doctor. Will
update you and let you know how everything went!
4/17/03- Jamie arrived into rescue today, thanks to one of our favorite shelters and
Gail his special transporter! He is a very skinny, tall, fawn boy, docked tail, natural ears
and one heck of a cute face! Jamie's story is a sad one....he came into the shelter as the
result of a cruelty/neglect case. The cruelty investigator found him being kept in a
plastic storage container upon investigating a complaint. The adults in the house swore
up and down that they did not own a dog, but the children lead the investigator to
Jamie.
Jamie was at the shelter for over a month. They were able to add a few pounds to him,
have him neutered, microchipped and brought up to date. Jamie drinks excessive
amounts of water therefore has to urinate frequently. We will be going to see the Boxer
Doctor asap to find out what going on. Jamie is a very happy boy and has lots of love
to share with everyone he meets. Keep your eye on this handsome guy! More updates
soon.
4/18/03 - Jamie has arrived and is looking for a new home. Please return for further
updates soon.
