10/08/03 - UPDATED - Spoiled? You bet! As soon as I met Gretchen, I knew she would
be a wonderful addition to our family and she has not let us down! Labor Day weekend
Gretchen came camping with the extended family of 13 adults, 5 children and 6 dogs.
Although we brought Gretchen and Chloe's dog beds, Gretchen prefers to sleep on the air
mattresses, of which she managed to poke a hole in. Oh well, it didn't seem to matter to her,
because she still had her dog bed! Her behavior is remarkable, not only with people, but
with other animals. We have seen her personality emerge more and more as the weeks go
on and you can't help but laugh at her and her goofy ways. Gretchen started her obedience
classes last night and is the star pupil. We will keep you updated as to her progress. I
cannot thank everyone enough at SCBR for allowing us to adopt such a wonderful animal!
10/8/03 UPDATED - Another month has gone by......we are so
thankful that we have Gretchen!! She continues to amuse and entertain us,
it seems like she has always been a part of our family. Gretchen loves and
demands ALL of the attention (who said that labs were needy???), to the
point that she has been expressing her displeasure on Mondays and Tuesdays
(JUST Mondays and Tuesdays), when we return back to the 'weekly routine' of
work and school, by collecting various items throughout the house.
Sometimes she even decides to express her EXTREME displeasure by ripping
items to shreds...hmmm, we have curtailed her activities, little-by-little,
but closing the majority of the doors in the house. This little issue of
hers is nothing compared to the happiness that she has brought to our
family.
On a more serious note, Gretchen visited her new vet, Dr. Harper, on
September 17, when it was discovered that she had a heart murmur. It was
recommended that she have an EKG and chest X-ray, of which we did on
September 23rd. Those results of those tests were to follow-up with an
echocardiogram and that no medication was necessary at this time. Gretchen
had her echo test yesterday (and was wonderfully behaved) by Dr. Tamke and
although she has no symptoms of cardiomyopethy, her heart is contracting at
the lower end of the 'regular contraction' scale, which could signal the
eventual on-set of the disease. The Dr. recommended that Gretchen receive
medication in order to strengthen the walls of her heart. So yesterday, my
baby, started taking Digoxin, along with two herbal supplements, L-Carnitin
and Co-Enzyme Q-10, we will do whatever it takes to keep her in our family
for as long as we can, and according to Dr. Tamke, that could be a long
time!! Thankfully!
8/22/03 Gretchen has been adopted.
8/18/03 Gretchen is pending adoption!
Gretchen will be going to her forever home tomorrow evening where she is going to become
A Princess with the assistance of Princess Chloe, Resident Labrodor Retreiver! We are so
happy to see Gretchen to find her forever family it brings tears to our eyes :)
7/20/03 Gretchen and Ellie arrived into their foster home last month. Since then they have
really made themselves part of the family. Gretchen still loves to play with her ball and run
around the yard. She is all ready to go to her forever home. She is good with cats, dogs and
even small children. Hurry and get you application because Gretchen can't wait to shower
you with her love!
6/30/03 Hi everybody, Gretchen here. I just wanted to take a break from playtime to let you
know I am looking for my forever home. Ellie, my step sister so to speak is gonna get
adopted with me. We really love each other and look out for each other. My tummy is a
little sore from my spay last week but my foster sister Cleopatra told me in a few days I will
feel better than new. I really need my forever parents to come for me really soon because
my foster brother Winston loves Ellie and I. I am afraid he will miss us really bad if we don't
find a family to take us in to love us forever! I just love to play with my red football. I also
love when you rub my back and let me cuddle with you. I am a really good girl, won't you let
me love you and bring you a lifetime of happiness? Hope to hear from my forever family
soon!
06/15/03 Gretchen and Ellie arrived safely today and have settled right in. The act like they
are old friends with our three boxers and show some interest in the cats, but no aggression.
It’s a beautiful day and the entire boxer bunch is running around the pool and playing
fetch. Ellie is a little timid and very gentle. I am sure she won’t be timid much longer.
Gretchen is not shy and can’t wait to play. We will fill you in just as soon as we get to
know the pair a little better. Gretchen and Ellie will be adopted together. I know they canâ
€™t wait to get to their forever home to fill your life with lots of love. Are you ready for
them? Spay for both is scheduled for 06/23/03…talk to you soon!
