8/24/03 - UPDATED -Hello All-Duch The Queen Here! One of my many nicknames (along
with Wiggle Butt, Princess and Dutch Treat) is Duch The Queen! Life keeps on getting better
and better! It all started off when I went to live with this nice lady I call My Forever Foster
Mommy! I loved being with her and her family (skin and fur kids alike)! The My Forever
Mommy came and picked me up! Boy did we have an exciting time driving home! Mommy
got something called a speeding ticket-but enough about that! I love being a City Girl! I am
doing so good I don't have to be in my crate too much anymore! I go to Doggie Day Care 1-2
X a week and love all my new friends. I visit Nana, Papa and Nemo as much as I can. I love
Mommy's "friend" Paul and am doing so much better with him. Mommy and I got to "school"
one night a week and I am learning all kinds of neat stuff. I visited Dr. Dunn and we both fell in
love with each other! Not much else to report. Thanks so much to all my friends at SCBR
who have gotten me started on the road to "The Boxer That I Am Meant To Be"! Loves and
Kisses, Dutch Treat
7/25/03 Duchess has been adopted!
7/18/03 Duchess is pending adoption.
7/17 Well, Duchess had her "spa" treatment yesterday and everything went very well. She is
such a good girl, they did not need to knock her out, but did it with a local. It was not
"suspicious" and didn't require a biopsy or the mandatory 3 days of "pins and needles" awaiting
the results! She came home in the afternoon and doesn't even have to wear "the collar" AND
she has gained 5 whole pounds!! Hurray for Duchess!! She is now just hanging out, waiting for
the day when she will get to go to her forever home.
7/11 Hello again! Well there are some exciting things happening for our Duchess girl!! She will,
of course be having her “treatment at the “spa, now scheduled for the 16th of
July AND (this is big) she will be traveling on the 24th to her FOREVER HOME! That’s
right, our very sweet and special Duchess girl is being adopted by none other than our own
Karla (Nemo’s mom). Nemo became such a big part of Karla’s parents life while she
was staying with them to recuperate, and Nemo loves them so much, that Karla very unselfishly
and generously left Nemo with them when she moved back home (she sees him every day
though!) So, Duchess will be Nemo’s sister, and she will see him every day too!! Isn’t
that wonderful!! Please keep your fingers crossed for Duchess that her surgery goes well, and
it’s not malignant so she can go to her new home both healthy and happy (and just a bit
plumper would be nice too!)
7/6 Well I picked up Duchess from the spa after her vacation. (She was at the vet’s having
some minor surgery and breast reduction - she, like any royal person or star, doesn’t want
her fans to know!). She is home now, a little tender, so moving slowly, but basically fine. She
did lose a little of that hard won weight there though. AND there was a “complication
of a sort, the vets were to remove two bumps and they did, the trouble was, they found a
second bump while shaving the first site, so removed two from there and left the other bump
(on the other side of her leg) on. So, her highness will have to return to the “spa, after
she has had time to recuperate, to have the third (old second) lump removed. This was the one
we actually had some concerns about (the vet was a tad embarrassed and will be doing this
surgery at no additional charge. ) She is so sweet and laid back that he thinks he will be able to
do this one with only a local.
6/24 Hello again! Duchess, it seems has finally gotten enough to eat to rejuvenate her into a
boxer. She is playing with the boys, romping all over and just “smiling more. It is so nice
to see her come out of her shell. When she first came, if she were out on the cable, when
anyone walked toward her she immediately cowered to the ground and stayed down until you
unhooked her or walked past. With much reassurance and praise, today, for the first time, she
greeted me on her feet, tail wagging!!! We had a couple of days, there where she couldn’t
make up her mind, and either had her front end or her butt were in the air, but not the whole
dog. Lol She is such a sweet thing who just loves to cuddle and snuggle. She cannot get close
enough. I think she had very little of this type of attention and is making up for lost time. Doesnâ
€™t she sound like the perfect addition to your family?? She would be oh-so-happy to snuggle
with you!!
6/20 Well Duchess girl went to the vets and she will need to have those bumps on her hind leg
removed. While he has her under, he will also remove the 4 most pendulous of her nipples. He
agreed with me that she probably developed mastitis with her last litter and that is why they are
so large and misshapen, (probably why she was dumped at the shelter) he doesn’t think
they are necessarily cancerous but feels they should come off as they are so long and wide she
could catch them on something, rip them open and either bleed out or become badly infected.
The others while still large are protected by either her front or hind legs and are not any where
near as deformed as the center 4. As this is not a usual surgery for rescue to perform he is
splitting the fee with me and I am paying the other ½ out of pocket. Duchess will be spending
her 4th of July week at the vets as my family and I are going to Maine on a camping trip, so her
surgery will be done at that time. She is eating well, she really gets very happy when she knows
she is about to be fed, dancing all around and romping up and down, it is quite funny to watch.
She has started to act a little more frisky since she is recovering nicely from her spaying and has
some regular food in her system. Wish her luck on her surgery!
6/14 Duchess has arrived, she is a sweet 5 year old fawn with some white, cropped and
docked. A very tiny girl who needs to put on some weight, she came to us from a shelter where
she had been surrendered. She was very obviously used to breed lots of puppies. Her ears are
a bit large for her little head and my sons keep saying she is a “Wombat - Boxer cross!!
Lol She is up to date on all her shots and spayed, but she does have some lumps I want my vet
to look at on her hind leg. Hopefully they are just “I’m 5 yrs old, what do you expect?â
€ bumps, and nothing serious. She is a good girl who has only had one little accident so far.
Her tummy is showing the effects of all these sudden life changes and she has a touch of â
€œloosie goosies “ so, a diet of boiled hamburger and rice has been instituted, and boy does
she like it !!! She does not seem to know any obedience commands, but that could be because
she is a bit unsettled and may respond better when she settles in. She get along very well with
both my boxers, and has had run of the house since ½ hour after arriving (with check leads on
all dogs, of course) She is a quiet, snuggle bug, who gives chin kisses and loves "hanging" with
my sons. She was not too happy about sleeping in the crate last night, but settled in after a short
interval of whining and scratching the door. With a little love and lots of groceries, she is going
to be someone’s bestest friend. That could be you, if you play your cards right!!
6/17 Hello all you boxer lovers. Sorry there has been no update on Duchess for a couple of
days, I thought I was having computer problems last week but it turned out to be something
wrong with the phone lines outside the house and I lost my phone on Sunday evening and they
did not get it fixed until late yesterday. Anyway, The Duchess is doing very well except for a
slight problem with being left alone with the kitchen trash can. She seems to feel an
uncontrollable need to dump it and graze. A habit I would prefer she did not teach my dogs!!
She is over her “squirties and settling into the routine here at the Inn very nicely. She has
an appointment with the vet to check out her lumps and bumps tomorrow. She is completely
ignorant of pretty much any obedience work other than walking on a lead and “come,
so we will be doing some “home schooling during her stay. She is so skinny, I am glad I
will finally be able to put some “stuff in her food to help her gain weight. So far she has
been on boiled burger or venison and rice, now mixed with kibble. She is a very sweet girl and
loves to snuggle, her favorite snooze spot is on my chest. She does have one odd quirt. in that.
she “howls when she wants to come in or if you are to far away from her cable while
outside!!! A high “woooooowooooowooo which is too cute!! She hasn’t started to
really play with the other dogs yet, not sure if she doesn’t know how, or if it’s just
because she needs to eat and build up some energy first.
