UPDATED 5/3/04 - Six month flew by and Cassius is happy to report that spring has
finally arrived: squirrels more squirrels, please! Everyone loves Cassius! He comes to work
everyday & people bring him dog
treats, little children draw pictures of him. And we even have families come in to visit
Cassius, several are now contemplating getting a boxer! So far everything has been
positive. Dog training classes went very well
and Cassius was the star of the class (we think he may have aced this one before)! His
health has not been an issue either and he is smart enough to take it easy when the weather
gets too hot for him Our daily
walks with him seems to be more for out benefit. Unless there is something stirring in the
underbrush he finds them rather boring until of course we meet other dogs, than its
playtime! Even thought we only had him for six months, it feels like he has been part of the
family forever, he’s the best! Cheers.
UPDATED 12/2/03 - The Good News: Cassius is a great dog and has fully acclimated to
his new environment. Smart as a whip, obedience (training) is not a problem. He knows
how to push all the right buttons and makes his way up on our bed every morning. No
pillow is too soft for him.
The Bad News:
After a routine checkup by our veterinarian on November 20th, she immediately noticed a
severe heart abnormality. Following her suggestion, we consulted a specialist that next day
and the echocardiograph unfortunately revealed Aortic Stenosis. We will be taking all the
required precautions to extend his life as long as possible and with a little bit of luck and
care that will hopefully be a long time.
11/3/03 Cassius has been adopted!
10/22/03 Cassius here...someone should adopt me...quick..before I get too comfortable at
my foster home. I am loyal, loving, well-behaved, and I go outside to do my business. I
will play with you and cuddle you and smile at you all day long. My coat is pretty and
stripey and shiny and I don't shed. I will be nice to you and wiggle each time I see you. I'll
always stop and smile my thanks at you before I eat my dinner and I will eat almost
anything you serve, except bananas. Miles the other boxer here will do anything for a
piece of banana...go figure. I am pretty quiet and the littlest things thrill me, so I am not
hard to please. I like to ride, I like to walk, and I give sweet doggie kisses. Call now,
because I am the cream of the crop!!
10/19/03 Cassius arrived in Glenburn Saturday evening. He has natural ears and a
docked tail and is a very light brindle with lots of white. He has a large brindle spot right
in the middle of his white belly. He is one skinny-mini, but has the appetite of a horse, so
putting some weight on him probably won't be a problem. My kids had never seen a dog
with hipbones jutting out and spine outlined right down his back. They keep reminding me
to feed, feed, feed him!
So far he is a great dog with a lot of potential to make a wonderful pet. He already can sit,
shake, come, and lie down. He is cuddly, takes treats nicely, and does a heck of a kidney-
bean. He will crate-up, but isn't always thrilled about it. He needs leash work, as he packs
a powerful pull. After a few rocky moments with my two dogs, he seems to be OK with
them. We took him to my son's football game where he got a lot of attention from kids
and adults, with no problems. He was a little cold, but wouldn't let me wrap him in a
fleece blanket...he kept flinging it up into the air and it would drift back down onto him, like
superman's cape. He did end up on my lap, in my jacket. Poor thing, doesn't have an
ounce of fat on him!
Cassius is a young, energetic, loving cutie-pie. A little obedience work and a lot of love,
and you will have an awesome boxer pet.
10/14/03 Casuis has arrived. He is a beautiful 18 month old brindle boy. He was a owner
surrender to a local shelter. We will up date more as we get to know him.
