UPDATED 12/10/03 - Cardea is doing well. She has adjusted to Buddy, our five year
old male, and has settled down and is no longer aggressive in her play.  Now we have the
opposite problem....Buddy wants her to play more!  All her health issues have cleared up
though she is still on medicine for her itching but it is really helping her.  She has had a few
visits with our obedience trainer who thinks she is a jewel. Cardea does not like the snow
and is funny to watch as she tiptoes on the snow to do her business and then run back
inside. She is not as expressive as Buddy and we hope she will come out of her shell
more and more as time goes by. She is very much a velcro dog and loves to be with us at
all times. Well that is all for now. Thanks again

UPDATED 11/1/03 - Hello all, Well, week one has gone by and it is time for our first
update. We are currently dealing with but one issue, Cardea’s aggressive play.
Cardea is very aggressive when she tries to play with our five-year-old male, Buddy.
She does not seem to be able to differentiate between play and fighting.  Buddy was very
sore yesterday in his back legs due to the fighting. But, having said that, Cardea, in all
other ways, is a
great girl. We do not need to crate her at all.  She sleeps on a dog bed quietly all night,
has absolutely no food aggression (in fact we have been giving her medication with peanut
butter and the two will lick each others
mouths), and she does not jump (though sometimes at the door but she is learning that it
is not ok).  I mean really, in the house, she is so good and she is certainly very loving.
The only issue is her aggression when she tries to play.  It is really sad to watch because
we know she is trying to play but it then turns ugly and Buddy looks so confused and
sad.  We have been playing phone tag with the woman who will be doing the obedience
training trying to get her thoughts on the issue (we are still trying to set a time for the
training to begin).
We have been taking Buddy and Cardea for long daily walks and she is learning very
quickly not to pull and
after the first five minutes or so she settles into a nice walk along your side. She will train
easily, that
is apparent. We also needed to take Cardea to the vet because she had worms and
found she also had a yeast infection in both ears (her ears were very dirty) and in her
paws.  We have treated the worms and she is on medication (drops) for the yeast
infection as well as pills for a rash on her belly.  Fortunately, the vet said none of her
health issues are transferable to Buddy.  Though, as I told Leann, I am disappointed that
we were not
aware of the issues. We will give it more time and are growing more attached to Cardea
daily but Buddy is our No. 1 priority and we do not think he can handle the aggression
long term so we will need to see a change.
As each day goes by, we are more confident that she will settle down. Ending on a
positive note, Cardea is snuggled by my feet and seems very content.  If any of you have
any suggestions on curbing her aggression, please feel free to contact me.  We really want
this to work for us all.

UPDATED - Cardea has been adopted!

10/18/03 Cardia has had a busy weekend. Not only was she great with all our company
but she was also loose with the other 8 dogs here. NO issues at all, big dogs, little dogs
boy or girls. Cardia did well with everyone. Her and Ida played for a long time last night.
Piggy wasn't feeling very good and snapped at her and she just turned and walked away.
She also did very well with my dominant female boston. Cardia is really for a forever
home. She wants someone to play with and love. She does need to be crated when no
one is home but does fine in the crate. Are you the home she needs?

10/6/03 Cardea is doing great here. She is a sweet girl. Loves people and attention. SHe
is doing well with the other dogs and had quite a play date with my bulldog. They were
rolling around having a great time. Cardea does play rough but seems to enjoy playing
with him. I think she would do fine with a submissive playful dog. SHe is one sweetie who
deserves a home of her own.

10/1/03 Well Cardea has been here for a little while now and is settling in very nicely.
Cardea is a love, she adores people. She loves the kids and gives them gentle kisses.
Cardea walks well on the leash is completely housebroken and doing extremely well in a
wire crate. Cardea has meet a number of the other dogs here without a problem. I think
she would enjoy being an only dog or living with a dog that was not to rowdy. Cardea
has no food issues and rides well in the car. Cardea does have a touch of seperation
anxiety but I think it is just from being bounced around. I think once she settles in
somewhere and knows where she belongs she will be ok. Cardea's birthday is Dec. 1
she will be 5. PLEASE don't make her spend it in rescue. Are you the perfect home for
her?????

9/20/03 Cardea made her way to the Last Resort yesterday; she is an absolutely beautiful
dark red fawn girl with natural ears and docked tail...and she is a BIG girl! She is already
spay and appears to be in excellent health! Cardea is very affectionate and loves pats and
to give kisses. She prefers a home with no other dogs and no cats. She rode well in the
car on the way to her fosterhome. More to come on this beautiful girl;  be sure to let us
know of your interest early, she will not be around long.
