UPDATED 12/23/03 - Brox is doing great. He has adjusted well really from day-1.
He has been a real joy and is such an easy going boy. Our 3 kids really love him and
he lets them play and crawl on him all the time. We're able to leave him for a few hrs.
by himself without worry. His tail goes a mile-a-minute when we come back in the
door. Has his own big sleeping pillow that he uses during the day...but always finds his
way
up in our bedroom at night to sleep by our bed on the floor. The kids get a kick out of
the way he chases his tail and rubs the top of his head into the rug to itch....very funny.
He has fun running around in our back yard chasing balls with the kids. He has been
eating well since arriving (Nutro) and I think he's gained a little weight (collars a little
tighter now). He's been to the vet and got a pretty clean bill--normal heart worm
treatments only. He's had limited exposure to other dogs so far. Going easy there and
trying to find neutral territory to do it.....we'll see. All in all, he's really been
wonderful....great transition and we're very happy to have him.
11/8/03 Brox has been adopted.
10/26/03 Hi there, it's me Brox! I am feeling pretty good now and would really like to
romp and play, but my fostermom says "No, no Brox..." so I am a good boy and come
back to her. Most of time. I love to cuddle close on the couch, and to lay near you
when you are busy. I would love to go for rides, but for now I still have to stay very
quiet. There are cats here, they stay downstairs. I sure would like to get me one of
those cat things. I guess thats not okay, so I will have to live somewhere without cat
things.
I am almost ready to go to my new home. My last heartworm treatment will be week
after next, and I will have to stay another week after that to make sure everything is ok,
so in about 3 weeks I will be ready to go. I like it here, but there are a lot of boy dogs
here, and even though we get along fine, we cant all be boss. That is bound to happen
sooner or later. Being the big dog in my own home would be much nicer. Do you need
a nice big boy boxer at your house?
10/18/03 Finally a moment to do an update for Mr. Brox! He is doing great, came
through his treatments fine. He is coughing a small amount which expected. He is feeling
much better and more lively, so I am keeping a close watch that he does not exert
himself.
Brox is a boxer with a gentle old soul. He is so easy to have around. He is loving and
affectionate, but he can be downright silly sometimes... dragging the quilt I keep in the
kitchen all around, and practically turning upside down rubbing and snoogering his head
on it! He is so cute, we just love him!
10/6/03 Brox had the first of his two shots today. My vet confirmed that his heartworm
test was strongly positive, so we are keeping a very close watch on him. He is very
sore and uncomfortable, and I think a bit nauseated. I am able to bring him home for
observation since my vet is only about a quarter mile away; tomorrow I have to take
him back for the second shot and he will remain there all day for observation again.
After that he will remain crated and quiet while those nasty worms dissolve and get
absorbed by his body. Caring for a dog being treated for heartworm can be a scary
thing. They usually cough as small bits are passed, and I always worry about a big
piece making it into their lungs. So far everything is going well for Brox; I will update
again tomorrow night, after his second injection.
9/30/03 Brox made his way to Maine this past weekend. He is a lovely boy, so sweet
and loving and just adores attention! He is a big boy, and we are hoping a full recovery
from this heartworm. His treatment will begin next Monday!
9/22/03 -Brox here. Just wanted to let you know my foster mom weighed me and I
am a whopping 76 lbs. not bad for being skinny! I also need to tell you I DO NOT
like cats, unless they are on the menu for snack! ha! ha! I get along with my foster
brothers and sisters here there are 4 total and 2 skin ones, they are fun. They like to
give me treats and all I have to do is sit, stay, down, boy do I have them fooled. That
stuff is easy! I like running in the yard, it's way better than the shelter and mom is really
loving and reassuring about everything. She lets me know that it is only gonna get
better from here on so I hope my forever family gets in touch soon so we can share all
the love mom has taught me there is in the world. Well, gotta go the others are begging
to go out and I want to join them. I will try to check in before I transfer to my new
foster home to get treatment, bye for now.
BROX
P.S. Thanks in advance for all who will help with my transport!
9/19/03 - Brox is a stray from a nice shelter we work with. Unfortunately he has
tested positive for heartworm so he will need to be moved to another foster home to be
treated for that. It will be about 6 weeks before he will be through that & can be
adopted. He gives lots of kisses. Brox is slightly emaciated but could just be from
being a stray or the heartworm.
Heartworm treatment is very expensive & will cost us about $500 to treat Brox. If you
can donate to help with his treatment, Brox will greatly appreciate it. Watch for more
updates on Brox soon!
