08/17/03 - UPDATED - Blaze was very sad on his first day here.  But he seems to be
integrating far better and more quickly than we anticipated.  Although there was initially a issue
with Tina (our 11 year old boxer) over food, that seems to resolved itself.  Blaze and Tina
often sleep together, and Tina always allows him to give her kisses; this is far better progress
than Tina made when we adopted her!  Blaze also feels free to jump up on our bed even when
he's not been invited up - how's that for confidence!  Blaze and our five-year old son are also
getting along quite well.  They often play in the backyard - Hunter throws the stick or ball, and
Blaze runs away with it!  Its actually quite funny because our son doesn't realize that Blaze has
only mastered the first half of "fetch".  Blaze was fairly frightened in the car on the way to his
vet visit (clean bill of health) but he perked right up when he got home.  We're working on his
socialization and confidence - but there's no doubt in our minds that he's a great little guy!

7/26/03 Blaze has been adopted!

7/14/03 Blaze is doing so well at his foster home.  He is just amazing us with his charm.
He has really come out of his shell and seems so much more relaxed about his foster home.
He has lots of
energy and will play with his foster brothers and sister.  He loves toys and
will entertain himself if no one else is in the mood to play.  He sleeps on
a dog bed in our bedroom and sleeps all night.  He will ask to go out if he
needs to.  Blaze is very smart and should learn lots of things during his
obedience training.  He still takes time to warm up to strangers but it is
getting easier for him.  I find that if the visitors don't push themselves
on him, he will quickly come over to them and make the move to be friends.
We were laughing at him because when he first came to his foster home, he
was afraid of the ceiling fans and their movement so last night we turned
them off and he was more afraid of them with no movement.  So this just
proves that he learns to trust and should do well at his new home.  You just
have to be patient and let him do it on his own.  I give him a little
encouragement but not make a big deal about it and he will adjust.  He is an
adoreable little guy.  I have really fallen in love with him.  Blaze loves
to sleep on dog beds even if he has to share.  He is just too cute.  He is
full of life and he will make a great addition to any family.

7/10/03 Boxer'In on the Lake would like to introduce our new foster, Blaze.  Blaze is a one
year old flashy fawn boxer with natural ears, docked tail and white socks on all his feet.  Blaze
made the trip to his foster home with us during our return to upstate New York from Maine.
Blaze is a sweetheart and a very cute boxer boy.  This will be the fourth home that he will have
been in and he is very timid and scared.  I don't think he has had it very easy in his short life
and believe that somewhere sometime someone was not very nice to him.  We will work to
build his confidence and show him how really life should be for him.  He has changed alot in
just the past 24 hours.  He is now with all his foster brothers and sisters and really is bonding
with them.  He will snuggle up to any of the other dogs if they are sleeping on a dog bed.  He is
eating twice daily some kibbled with a little can and some warm water.  He has no food
aggressions and he already knows his spot to eat at.  Right now, he is using his new boxer
friends to help him when he gets scared.  He is completely housebroken and has had no
accidents in the house at all.  He likes toys and already this morning he has had a couple play
times with all the dogs.  He does really well with it.  He likes toys and really likes the holy ball.
Blaze is sleeping in our bedroom on a dog bed and sleeps all night.  Blaze does frighten easily
and will need lots of patience to get him through normal noises and objects that bother him.
He doesn't like the ceiling fans and the vaccum cleaner will send him bolting into another room.
Again, patience, reassurance and not making a big deal about them will get him so that he feels
more comfortable. Blaze has lived with small children and teenagers but only for short periods
of time.  Our 19 year old, he is cautious of but he does warm up to him.  Blaze is beautiful and
will be a great addition to any family.  This boy is more than deserving of his second chance at
a happy life.  I really expect him to do well in rescue.

6/21/03 - Blaze is a neutered flashy fawn 11 month old male with natural
ears & docked tail.  He is a big boy but gentle disposition.  Blaze loves to
play ball and chew toys.  He needs to run daily. Very good with other dogs;
Was a bit shy with people when he came to me in February, but he has become
more confident about people here.  He walks ok on leash and knows sit. He is
crate trained, house trained (looks at or paws door/water dish) and will do
anything for a treat or toy.  He needs a place with space to run.
