UPDATE 3/7/09 - Last night I lost a dear friend.
She came to us in 2003 at age five and subsequently won our hearts.
She had all the boxer qualities that endear all of us to the breed, and was my partner; rarely
leaving my side when I was home. Our favorite day was Saturday when we rode to town to
do our weekly errands. Her circle of friends included anyone who gave her free treats and
she perked up whenever we approached the regulars. She loved to help in the barn with
mom or hang out with me in the garage while I puttered. She loved to walk and explore but
lately her arthritic back prevented her from going very far.
She made us feel guilty leaving for work every morning but greeted us with the famous Boxer
“C” and wiggly stubby tail every evening. During the day she had her favorite extended family
come and take her for walks, rides and pretty much anything that seemed to make her happy.
Over the years, we did endure several tumors along with the usual visits to the vet. Through it
all, she was always happy, willing to please, and a fabulous companion.
During these last few months, we were taking her for chiropractic adjustments that helped her
get around but she was failing.
Last evening she greeted us the same as always, had supper, and when settling down on her
bed, she fell and we knew something was very wrong and she was in great pain. We took
her to the Brewer Emergency Vet Clinic where x-rays showed a very large spleen mass that
we believe had ruptured. After discussing all possible options with the doctor, we knew there
could only be one decision and Amber passed peacefully in my arms.
I am grateful to SCBR for bringing Amber to us and posted a few of my favorite pictures in
the photo section of the group page.

Amber’s spirit will stay with me for a long time and I will miss her.
UPDATE 10/01/07 - My best friend and side kick is almost a gray as me. We're both
getting older and fatter. Our favorite day is Saturday, when we go to the Mail, Dump, and
get a hot dog. We also like go to my sisters home and "water" her lawn. It's especially
special when Tyler, my nephew's boxer is there visiting as well.
Over the years Amber has had a few tumors removed, but is in great form for an old girl.
She just came back from the vet's with no immediate issues. Although I took her initially
because when I came home, her face was the size of a basketball. She either got stung or
bitten by some kind of bug. It took a few days to get back to normal... Had me worried for a
bit.
Amber is the queen of the property; she loves the UPS driver, even recognizes the sound of
his truck. It may have something to do with getting a treat every time he comes with a
package.
"Auntie Gail"- a friend who keeps her horse at our barn, is pretty strong competition for
Amber's affection. She'll jump in her car and go anywhere with her.
For that matter, just about anything on wheels is supposed to include Amber. I've learned not
to look in my rear view when going to work because I can't stand the sad face in the window.
She still has her door bell and rings it when she needs to go out. She also likes to ring it when
I'm getting ready to get in the shower or on the phone. I'm still in awe of that ability. Her
previous owner did a good job with her. She obviously didn't lack for attention.
If I may speak for Amber, SCBR has been a blessing for both of us. Thank you and God
Bless your work.
8/1/03 Amber has been adopted.
7/31/03 Amber is pending adoption!
7/29/03 Time for an Amber update! She is the BEST dog. She is sweet and friendly, seems
to like all the other dogs, and has no bad habits that I have seen. Considering that she
probably has never lived with as many dogs (if any other dogs) she adjusted really well!. I did
take my time getting her introduced, but she is relaxed and happy to be one of th "crew" now.
Amber likes to play and run with the other dogs, and is happy to follow me around the house
and watch what I'm doing. She is very smart!
Amber is a big beautiful girl... tall, with a well-defined boxer body, and dainty girly paws and
ankles. Her coat is a smooth beautiful shade of fawn, and she has a very sweet face.
Amber deserves to be her new forever home soon. You will appreciate her good manners
and nice mature ways!!
7/18/03 Miss Amber arrived at the last resort late last night after a long ride up from NJ. She
is a sweet and very friendly fawn girl, docked tail and natural ears, and she appears to be in
excellent health. She seems to be very smart and I understand that she knows how to ring her
own "doorbell" which the shelter is going to send up to us since it was forgotten there. How
cute is that?? She met the other dogs through the crate last night, but she was still pretty
nervous and tired and we left real introductions for another time. She loves hugs and kisses!
